Subject: comment about PH
I have to confess that I read every new issue
you post and was amazed at the depth of compassion
you have toward Paris Hilton's situation.
There's a chance I like her because she's so totally
hated by everybody.
So many people want to stick a fork in her neck
- but thay're not sure why.
But mostly this is a legal/political issue but
I may be the only one who sees that.
One of the most famous people in America is in
jail because the public hates her.
That's never happened in my lifetime and it may
never happen again.
I don't watch TV at all - movies and the web are
the way I digest media.
The "TV watch" section you post doesn't mean
anything to me because I haven't seen any of the shows
- but it doesn't offend me either that you include
it! It's always amazing to see how
volatile the responses are from your readers!
About a month ago, I had lunch with an OBP - an Old Bartcop Pillar.
I think Bob is the first person in the world who ever met Ol' Bart.
Bob doesn't own a TV - no telling how many years
he's been without a TV.
So we're having dinner at Goldie's Hamburgers (Your town doesn't have
a burger this good)
and, as it does in every conversation in America these days, the name
'Paris Hilton' came up.
He asked me, "Is she the girl that did the
hamburger commercial?"
Yes - that would be her.
Watching TV can be a blessing but I can see how it could also be a curse.
I think for my good friend Bob, it's a blessing.
Anyway - Paris is a media phenomenon and the course
of her fame, her experiences and her future
are never going to weigh too heavily on my conscience
one way or the other. But it was really nice
to click on the link to the Paris page in the
current ish and see some compassion from the old Bartcop.
That's me - the Kompassionate Kid.
I'm sure you did get a lot of mail saying Paris
and Bush are exactly the same but thanks for
being a presence on the web that's not afraid
to point out the logical fallacies in that argument.
I'm sure that quality of noting the differences
(and being willing to swim against the stream)
is what keeps the silent majority of your readers
clicking your web address.
Thanks for helping me get through my workday!
All the best to you and Mrs. Bart!

You'd think there'd be more PH cartoons, but nooooo.

Bart, you wrote:

had TWO DUIs,

Guarantee that she's had three?
Yes. She had three. She might not
have been charged with them
-- that's where the expensive lawyers come in.
Oh yeah!
Her lawyer was in the car when she got pulled
over?
I don't believe that.
She doesn't get special treatment! But she
DID take drug/alcohol tests
after driving and was legally drunk. Three
times -- in 6 months.

So - that's how the game is played?
I could accuse you of murder, even tho you've
never been charged with murder?
You might want to get a handle on that Paris hatred.
Sounds like it's eating you up inside.

You are right on this.
I “hate” Paris too but how is wanting to see Paris
“roughed up” and “broom raped”
any different than wanting to see “uppity niggers”
hanging from trees?
Ole zenferret
I'm not asking anyone to like Paris Hilton.
I was hoping after Clinton got impeached for a BJ and Bush killed 3500
soldiers,
left-leaning people might understand the meaning of the word "proportion."
Someone told me, "Liberals are more angry with
Paris Hilton than Jenna Bush,"
We live in a nutty world.

Is Nancy
Grace on vacation?
Wouldn't that be the most ironic thing ever?
Paris Hilton is actually guilty - what does Grace do with an actually
guilty person?
There's no need to frame her - no need to twist the evidence - she's
guilty..
I caught Grace's show yesterday, maybe, and some dude was taking her
place.
As they talked about Paris, they showed pictures of tiny tots who had
died
as a result of somebody drunk driving, but the insinuation was obvious:
Paris Hilton killed every one
of those babies!
Can't we save the time and money and just f-ing hang her on live TV?

a few minutes before the interview,
I was told that it was off -- Paris Hilton

Bart I have to disagree with you on this one.
Many poor unheard of people get murdered, raped,
or abused in jail or prison every day.
The normal atitude of the American public is:
"Well they were a criminal; they were found
guilty so they got what they deserved".
Why should Paris Hilton get more sympathy than
a poor person?
Sympathy isn't the question.
She's in jail right now because people hate her.
Everybody BUT Paris got to go home.
Why did she continue to drive? She could
have also afforded to hire a driver.
Day or night. Most people don't have that
option.
Every celebrity that's been busted in the last
10 years had that same option.
Did you say the same thing about Nick Nolte,
Mel Gibson etc etc?
Frankly I wish she would take her no job having,
never worked for a penny ass and sit down and shut up.
Shelly from Georgia
Can you tell me why people say she doesn't work?
Her TV show is in it's FIFTH YEAR, yet people say she's never worked
a day in her life.

The river
of rage
If I was going on and on about what drinks Paris likes, or her favorite
color,
or her feelings about some cute actor who might actually be her mental
equal,
I could understand why people would say, "We
don't want to hear another word."
But if we're talking about keeping one of the most famous people in
America in jail because the public
is taking their war and Bush fatique frustrations out on her - that
sounds like legitimate political talk to me.
Besides, show me someone who's not talking about it.
It's not the only story, but it's A story.
Plus, I like a good joke. I like a good Clinton joke,
I like a lot of jokes - but they have to be good jokes.
Saying, "Paris is famous for being famous,"
and then
waiting for the laughter to subside is not good comedy.
By the way...
Several people gave me their Nancy Grace Guarantee that
no
harm could possibly
come
to PH because she was in solitary confinement
thus invulnerable from all potential attackers.
According to bostonherald.com
PH has been playing ping pong while in prison.
If she can play ping pong with herself, she's either not alone or she's
faster than Superman
Also: Understand - I know Paris isn't John Lennon - but...
Seems like it was 1968, John Lennon said something like, "We're
more popular than Jesus."
and suddenly became the most unpopular man in America. And let's
say he had a party and
the cops came because there was too much noise and they arrested and
jailed John Lennon.
Now - the last 24 people arrested for too much noise got a warning or
a ticket,
but when they say it was John Lennon they threw the book at him and
he went to jail.
Is that right? Is that want you want your America to be?
If the arresting officer or the judge or the prosecutor doesn't like
John Lennon, if the public was in
no mood to coddle this Christ defamer, would you treat John
Lennon like every other too-much-noise
perp or would you throw the book at him like they did to PH?
It's just a question...
And please don't write and tell me PH and John Lennon are different
people - sheesh.

Quotes
"I, as well as anyone, know the party princesses
are 'crack' to which we in the syndicated
magazine world had become addicted. 'We' may
think the Paris/Lindsay/Britney story
beneath us and hold our nose as we broadcast
it -- but we know if we don't do the story,
our competitors will -- and the viewers will
lunge for the television remote to change to
THEIR channel. So we show the princess preening
for the cameras...and feel uneasy
for having broadcast it."

For some reason, people think it's incredibly clever to repeat the idiotic
phrase,
"Paris Hilton is famous for being famous."
Tell me, what is Cindy Crawford famous for?
What is Jennifer Aniston famous for?
What is Marilyn Monroe famous for?
