By GREG TUTTLE Of The Billings Gazette Staff The plastic Ronald McDonald stolen Wednesday from his own front porch was found early Thursday hanging from a tree in Pioneer Park. The molded figure was found by a passer-by who reported it to police. Vulgar scribblings were found on the figure. The life-size fast-food icon made of solid PVC is valued at about $2,000. It was placed on the porch of the home at 1144 N. 30th St. last September. A pedestrian walking through Pioneer Park at 7 a.m. noticed the clown strung up by a noose and called police. Two officers arrived, and several high school students drawn to the strange sight volunteered to climb the tree, undo the rope and lower the statue. Once Ronald was on the ground, officers saw writings on the statue in black ink. Some of the graffiti were vulgar anatomical references. A peace sign was drawn on the face, and the words “You broke your word” was scribbled across the chest. Police Sgt. Tony Barone said Thursday that there are no suspects in the theft, which is a felony crime based on the value of the figure. Officers are looking for a female suspect, but would not say why, Barone said. “Hopefully, someone will call us and give us a tip,” he said. The Ronald McDonald House serves as a “home away from home” for families whose children are in Billings to receive medical care. Grammens said the clown is damaged beyond repair and will have to be replaced. What may have been a prank to some has been an upsetting experience for the guests and staff at the Ronald McDonald House, she said. “We just feel it’s a very cowardly act,” she said.
