I am not happy that congress has gotten involved with this case, we don't need any more involvement of government in our lives, and as a nurse, I have seen many people die in this manner, most were older and with some minor pain/comfort measures, after the 3rd day or so, they showed no s/s pain, because nature kicks in and provides natural endorphins.
What does bother me is the husband. (And it bothers many of my friends too) How can they say he has her best interests in mind. I find id awfully convenient that:
1 He didn't remember her making that statement
about not wanting to live like this until several years later---after
2 He had collected on her malpractice suit
1 million plus, after
3 He was involved with another woman, eventually
had two children with her, introduces her as his fiancé, she was
listed as such in his mother's obituary.(I know, he has urges etc so get
a divorce and let Terri be with the people who love her.)
Also he has refused rehab for her, even to no radio or TV, but is basically spending the malpractice money on lawyers to kill her. We always told staff to keep a radio on and talk to the patients during cares and everyone got range of motion exercises during cares--which he denied for her.
I basically think he's found a way to legally kill his wife I'm sure he still wouldn't be married to Terri if she knew about the 'other' woman. I think Florida dropped the ball, she should have been under state protection, before they decided who had her best interests. Refusing her rehab and audio stimulation is in my mind abuse.
As I wrote above, I've seen people die in this way, with pain/comfort measures. Which brings up another thought, is her husband allowing any? He wouldn't allow her to have antibiotics or even ice chips in the past.
And if it isn't for the money, if any is left, another, even more unsettling thought comes to mind, He's Catholic, is he doing this because he can't remarry in the church with a divorce and needs her dead.to do so---even if he's forgotten that 'thou shall not kill' is also in Catholic doctrine and the pope himself was against removing her feeding tube. I've known people who've thought like that, they pick and choose which part of religion they want to follow--i.e. a couple I knew didn't drink or dance because of their religion--but they lived together without being married.
Just some thoughts
