U2 review- Washington DC 10/18/05
   by cyde

Hi Bart,

Saw U2 in DC on Wed night, and will see them again tonight.  This will make 6 shows for me this tour
(San Diego, Philly, and two in Toronto being the others).

Our concert started off at the loading dock of the MCI center, where Bono stopped for a moment
to sign autographs.  My fiancee Jess got pulled up on stage in Toronto, and she had an 8x10 color glossy
of the moment for Bono to sign, which he did.  U2 is great to their fans.  After the autograph session,
we left and had dinner during the opening act.

We got back with around 40 minutes to burn, and we had pretty good seats to the side of, and slightly
behind Adam. The setlist for this show was: City of Blinding Lights, Vertigo, Elevation, I Will Follow,
The Electric Co., I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, Beautiful Day, Miracle Drug, Sometimes
You Can't Make It On Your Own, Love and Peace or Else, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Bullet the Blue Sky,
Miss Sarajevo, Pride, Where the Streets Have No Name, One, Ol' Man River, The First Time, Stuck In
A Moment You Can't Get Out Of, With or Without You, All Because of You, Yahweh, 40.

Bart, you asked about "End of the World" but I've yet to see them play that on this tour.  I presume it's
because it's an older song, and they played it to death on the last tour.  I suppose the same could be said
about "Streets" though, but they're still playing that.

Edge was amazing on guitar, especially during "Electrico" and "Bullet the Blue Sky". At one point, Bono
pulled a young girl up on stage, and he and she each sat on a teleprompter.  He got her to sing the verse
"no more" during "Sunday Bloody Sunday".  It was pretty cool.  He pulled another girl up during
"With or Without You" and you could tell she was a first-timer.

Bono got a little preachy during his intro speech to "One" (he later said that Larry timed the speach/song
combo at 15 min), but it wasn't much worse than you'd expect from a U2 show. "Streets" was one of the
best versions I'd ever heard, and Bono singing the Pavarotti segment in "Miss Sarajevo" was enough to
make your hair stand on end. I was hoping for "Bad" or "All I Want is You" but no luck with those.
Maybe tonight.

As always, keep the hammer swinging,
-cyde
