LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, March 16, 2001-----In this Newsletter I report on:
RATINGS FOR LAS VEGAS PRODUCTION
SHOWS
by billhere
These show ratings are my individual opinions based on my personal tastes
and preferences.
No overall consensus can ever be reached.
It is with this hopeless task that I rate the dozen best and the seven
worst shows in Las Vegas.
The only qualification I have is that I have now seen ALL the production
shows in Las Vegas
and have a life-long fondness for them.
Please do not e-mail me on Las Vegas production shows. The following
are just my personal opinions.
Your preferences, budget and Vegas mood will determine your choices,
as they should.
I am only looking at continuous running Las Vegas production shows.
Not taken into consideration are: headliner shows, where the artist
comes in for a short time,
permanent attractions, exhibits, museums, comedy clubs and lounge acts.
Show prices should also be taken into consideration by you, as they
range widely from the $100.50 admission
to Siegfried & Roy to free admission to the Masquerade Village
Parade.
THE TOP DOZEN
The top dozen production shows in Las Vegas, in my opinion, and rated,
in order, are:
1. “O” - Bellagio.
2. Siegfried & Roy - Mirage.
3. Mystere - Treasure Island.
4. Danny Gans - Mirage.
5. Blue Man Group - Luxor.
6. Lance Burton - Monte Carlo.
7. Jubilee - Bally’s.
8. Folies Bergere - Tropicana.
9. Masquerade Village Parade - Rio.
10. Legends in Concert - Imperial Palace.
11. Men are From Mars...- Flamingo.
12. Legends in Comedy - New Frontier.
Honorable mention to two afternoon shows:
1. Rick Thomas - Tropicana.
2. Viva Las Vegas - Stratosphere.
THE SEVEN WORST
The seven worst production shows in Las Vegas are listed in alphabetical
order
as I would suggest you do not go to any of them!
Bourbon Street - Dr. Naughty.
Rio - De La Guarda (go see it if you are under 30 years)
MGM Grand - EFX with Rick Springfield.
New York-New York - Lord of the Dance.
Sahara - Steve Wyrick.
Stardust - Wayne Newton.
Venetian - Melinda.
All the rest of the shows, not mentioned above, fall into the large category of "in between the best and the worst".
SOLD OUT
There are only four shows that are ALWAYS sold out and tickets are
hard to get. In alphabetical order:
Danny Gans (impersonator) - Mirage.
Mystere (circus without animals) - Treasure Island.
“O” (spectacular water show) - Bellagio.
Siegfried & Roy (illusionists) - Mirage.
Good luck getting tickets!
STAND-BY LINE
The “Stand-By Line” is used to get tickets to a show, at the last minute,
when you cannot get reservations and don’t have tickets.
You hope that other people will cancel their reservations or the casino
will release tickets that they ALWAYS block for possible comps for
high rollers.
If you get lucky, you can snag some last minute tickets. If you
are successful, you will pay the standard price.
This is not a ticket scalping operation but is legally set up by management.
The Stand-By Line is usually a special cordoned off line near the box
office. ASK where it starts.
STAND-BY LINE FOR THE “O” SHOW
The following is for the "O" show at Bellagio:
1. You stand in line in the designated "Stand-by Line".
It's first-come, first-served.
2. The line starts to form exactly two hours before show time.
3. One hour before show time they announce how far down the line the
people in the Stand-By-Line will get tickets.
There is no guarantee of getting tickets, but I do see a lot of people
getting lucky and seeing the show.
The above details are only for the "O" show at the Bellagio.
Most first rate shows have "Stand-By Lines".
You must call the Box Office* of the show you want to see for the details,
which are not the same for all shows.
So, if you just have to see that show, that night, remember the “STAND-BY
LINE”.
HOW TO GET GREAT SEATS
If you want great seats to a show, here is how:
The trick is to find out the first minute the tickets go on sale for
a particular show and then swoop in and buy.
It usually works, but not always. Most production shows, the great
seats, are held back for casino comps for high rollers.
Call the Box Office* at the hotel’s toll free telephone number and
ask when tickets go on sale for the show that
you want to attend.
*800 TELEPHONE NUMBERS
You can reach the Box Office of any Las Vegas hotel, toll free, by
calling the hotels main 800 telephone number and asking the telephone operator
for the Box Office. They usually connect you to a recording, so I usually
ask the telephone operator “to speak to a live person at the Box Office”.
You can receive a free e-mail of all the Las Vegas hotels' toll free
telephone numbers by
