Liberal Voting Pays Off
 by Marc Perkel

For those of you who are wondering if voting makes a difference or if
you wonder if it makes a difference who you vote for, these questions
have been answered. Yes - it does. In just a few days Nancy Pelosi has
accomplished more that the Republican controlled congress did in the
last 6 years. The first thing that changed was that Rumsfield is gone.
The Congress now works Monday through Friday rather than Tuesday through
Thursday. They reformed congressional ethics standards, they raised the
minimum wage, cut the interest on student loans in half, and cut tax
give aways to big oil. The day before the hearings on domestic spying
started Bush announced that he's going to stop breaking the law and get
warrants before tapping your phone.

So voting does make a difference and we are seeing the results.
The Democrats are trying a new way to hold onto power, do a good job,
put the people first, and hope that people will appreciate it by reelecting
them for doing a good job. Nancy is also proving that women are
qualified to lead and if she does a good job she will be a big help to
Hillary's run for president.

It makes me wonder if Republicans will adopt a similar strategy if they see
Democrats getting elected by doing a good job. Imagine Republicans and
Democrats competing to see who can please the people the most. That could
happen as long as the people show up at the polls are reward the good
politicians and punish the bad ones. And good government is the reward the
voters get by paying attention to what's happening and showing up to vote.

Thank you in advance for voting in 2008.
