Bush's Iran-Friendly
Policy
by Ivan Eland
consortiumnews.com
Excerpt:
Bush remains convinced that the broad application
of violence -- both by U.S. forces and
the Israeli army -- is the way to shatter the
old Middle East and create a new Middle East
that will be more compliant to the interests
of Washington and Tel Aviv.
To use the metaphor favored by Condi Rice -- that
the ongoing slaughters are "birth pangs"
-- the Bush policy amounts to a forced Caesarian
section carried out by deranged doctors
who have strapped the mother to the operating
table. Even the supposed higher principle of
"democracy" is being sacrificed in the cause
of these overlapping, purifying wars.
But beyond the questions of morality and war crimes,
there is also the issue of practicality:
Does this brutal strategy have even the slightest
prospect of success? In this guest essay,
Ivan Eland examines whether Iran will end up
being the ultimate beneficiary of Bush's
Middle East adventures:
Reminder: The Bush Family Evil Empire has a history of making
secret, illegal deals
with Iran and Hezbollah (not to mention Saddam) when there's a profit
to be made.

Jeeze Bart what a difference a couple of months
makes.
I have taken a well earned vacation from the media
for a while, and decided to check in with you
to learn your take on the debacle that is Israeli
foreign policy. To be chastising innocent civilians
who have lost their lives because they didn't
possess the common sense to move away from the
so called "buffer zone", is to at some level
sanction this violence which the American government
condones through inaction, and abets through
giving the Israelis' arms.
Perhaps you misunderstood.
People are loath to leave their property and personal
effects in favor of refugee status.
Secondly, you assume much when you just assume
that the targeted homes are near the site
of missile attacks, and you assume even more
when you suggest that the (dead) owners of
these bombed out houses, allowed the freedom
fighters to launch the missiles in the first place.
As we could see from bombing raids in Iraq, the
so called "smart bombs" found their way
to the market district, and residential neighborhoods
with no apparent ties to the insurgency.
To think the Israeli government is above <snipage>
In short, your logic has many holes in it.
Could you point out a few of those many holes?
I've become accustomed to being the only guy
on one side of an argument,
but I fail to see how leaving a place that's
about to be bombed is debate-worthy.
To in any small way legitimize the "eye for an
eye" type of politics coming out of Tel Aviv,
is below you, plus it is sooo Old Testament.
Ansel
Ansel, why not take what I said at face value? What I said was
this:
> Trust me, if a missle launcher pulls up
next to Casa de Bart,
> I'm not going to stand around and engage
somebody in vigorous debate.
> I'm getting 500 yards away from my damn
house as fast as I can.
People who are loathe to leave their about-to-be-destroyed property
get killed.
I'm against that.
There's a time to engage in vigorous debate and there's a time to run
like hell.
BTW, love your Yosemite work.

Nader and GOP cozier than Jomentum?
tpmmuckraker.com

OK, we've done it. We've nailed it down: Every
single contributor to the Pennsylvania
Green Party Senate candidate is actually a conservative
-- except for the candidate himself.
The Luzerne County Green Party raised $66,000
in the month of June in order to fund a
voter signature drive. The Philly Inquirer reported
yesterday that $40,000 came from
supporters of Rick Santorum's campaign (or their
housemates). Also yesterday, we confirmed
that another $15,000 came from GOP donors and
conservatives. Only three contributions,
totaling $11,000, remained as possible legit
donations.
Today, I confirmed that those came from GOP sources.

Dear Bart:
Specter was not on the Warren Commission.
He was part of the Commission's staff.
He himself invented the single

Before his work for the Warren Commission, Specter

I listened to Fisk's entire interview, and have
never disagreed with your comments more.
You can't mean that.
I suggest people walk away when a bomb is guaranteed
to go off very soon.
How do you disagree with that?
Expecting poor civilians in a war zone to be able
to safely evacuate is like blaming
the dead in New Orleans for not owning cars to
drive to higher ground.
I'm not sure you're thinking clearly.
Bombs delivered from Israel are 1,000 times smaller
than Katrina.
Getting a block away would save lives.
Did you forget that Israel wiped out a caravan
of civilians
who fled the border after heeding Israeli calls
to evacuate?
Even if that happened, it's no excuse to sit down
and wait for a bomb to arrive.
How can you disagree with that?
Fisk has lived in Beirut for 30 years and witnessed
enough carnage for anyone.
We are all armchair commentators compared to
him.
Fine, but Fisk's reports are tainted by his bias.
He might be 100% right, but he sees things Mel's

Excerpt:
Tuesday, House Majority Ass Roy Blunt (R-MO)
said that if he remains in power after the
November elections, there will be no action on
global warming for the entire 110th Congress:
Continued Republican House and Senate majorities
would likely mean more of the same on climate.
"I think the information is not adequate yet
for us to do anything meaningful," he said.
Actually, thousands of scientists have agreed
that global warming is real, humans are responsible
for much of it and, unless steps are taken to
reduce greenhouse gas emissions, there will be
extremely serious consequences.
For all we know, we're already past the point of no return on

Excerpt:
When Congress renamed French fries "freedom fries"
before the Iraq war, House Cafe Manager
Bob Ney, said the change registered "the strong
displeasure of many on Capitol Hill with the actions

it mainly allowed people to register their strong
displeasure at how juvenile Congress was being.
Now, Congress has quietly changed the name back.
"Freedom fries," like the "mission accomplished"

stale relic of a naïve time, when the war-lovers were
convinced that Iraqis would be free right after
they finished greeting their liberators with rose petals.

Since Rove entered the White House and took control
