New Clues in the Plame Mystery
  by Robert Parry

 consortiumnews.com

 Excerpt:
A well-placed conservative source has added an important clue to the mystery of the Bush's
"outing" of Valerie Plame.  The source, who knows both Rove and Richard Armitage, told me
that the two men are much closer than people understand, that they developed a friendship and
a working relationship when Bush was recruiting Colin Powell to be Secretary of State.

In those negotiations, Armitage stood in for Powell and Rove represented Bush - and after that,
the two men provided a back channel for sensitive information to pass between the White House
and the State Department, the source said.

The significance of this detail is that it undermines the current "conventional wisdom" among pundits
that Armitage acted alone - and innocently - in July 2003 when he disclosed Plame's identity to Novak,
who then got Rove to serve as a secondary source confirming the information from Armitage.

Subject: Oil Company Contributions to Republicans?

Isn't it amazing the the price of gas has dropped 50 cents a gallon just before the election?
What an amazing coincidence! But I remember when $2.50 gas wasn't considered cheap.

Are the oil companies reducing the price of gas to help Republicans get elected?
If they were, wouldn't that be considered an illegal campaign contribution?

I'll bet the price of gas in December is going to be higher than October.

Bart,

I've just listened to parts 1 and 2.  Great show as always.
I do have one comment about your rant about Nancy Pelosi's TV appearance though:

She can't say what you want her to if she ever wants to be asked to come on a talking heads show again.
As it is now, Democratic leaders get a chance to be on these shows once in a blue moon as it is.

The GOP and the right get on every damn week.  Even the right-wing wackos get more air time.
The folks on the left who have come out fighting haven't gotten on these shows for over a decade.
When was the last time you saw Eric Alterman anywhere but after midnight on C-span?
How about Sen. John Coyners?  There are dozens of hard-hitting folks out there who don't play the game.
None of them can get on TV.  Don't blame the Democrats for that - blame the GOP controlled FCC.

--joe in Japan

Joe, I think you're half-right.

Why would the networks bother to put on a mealy-mouthed, Bush-loving Democrat?
I think a fire-breathing Democrat would make for great TV - wish we had some.

Willie Nelson Busted

 Excerpt:
Willie Nelson and four others were issued misdemeanor citations for possession of
happy mushrooms and marijuana after a traffic stop Monday in Louisiana, cops say.
The citations were issued after a commercial vehicle inspection of Willie's bus.

"When the door was opened, the trooper smelled marijuana," the news release said.
A search produced 1.5 pounds of marijuana and 0.2 pounds of narcotic mushrooms.

Willie, why do you travel with 1.5 pounds?
Are you smoking an ounce a day?

Control the Dictionary, Control the World

 crisispapers.org

 Excerpt:
Bill Clinton tried to fudge the truth when he claimed he'd never had sexual relations with Monica,
but he felt he could get away with that because he defined "sexual relations" as vaginal intercourse.

(Note: That's what it means.)

Bush, with a straight face, tells us that he has never authorized torture, and he thinks he can get away
with that lie because the public is mostly unaware that he altered the definition of "torture."

According to the infamous 2002 torture memos, torture no longer means physical beatings,
water-boarding etc.,  No, those internationally-understood definitions have become,
under Bush&Co., "quaint" remnants from an earlier era.

Powell Stands Up
Is his conscience killing him?

 Link

 Excerpt:
I've found Colin Powell's sudden display of fearlessness particularly significant. And there was nothing
common about his opposition to Bush's attempt to redefine Common Article 3 of the Geneva Conventions.

Rejecting the White House spin that it was merely hoping to "clarify" the Convention's stance on torture,
Powell framed the debate in the most profound way possible, as a moral question, not a legal one.

"The world is beginning to doubt the moral basis of our fight against terrorism," he wrote.
"To redefine Common Article 3 would add to those doubts."

Well, I might take issue with his use of the phrase "beginning to doubt" -- I think it's safe to say the world
is no longer in the early stages of doubt -- but his larger point is dead on: For decent people there can be
no wiggle room when it comes to torture.

Powell lied to get this quagmire going and he knew he was lying at the time.
One report said he threw the speech in the air saying, "This is bullshit, I'm not giving this speech,"
and then he changed his mind and sent 2700 (so far) soldiers to their deaths.

How could a lifetime soldier send so many thousands of men to their deaths for a lie?
Powell knew Vietnam as well an anybody, yet he repeated those same bloody mistakes.
I suppose he wanted to please his white masters - but at what cost?

Hey Bart.....you're back!  And with a brand-spanking new issue, right on my birthday!!
It's the best birthday present I've ever received (my dearest hubby neglected to get that
new Leopard carbon fiber bicycle for me in honor of my 50th.

In all honesty, my idea of a great birthday day is to spend quiet time online reading my
fave sites while drinking a cuppa hot spiced chai.  Thanks for being a part of my day.

Oh, and a great big happy birthday to you too!!

Subject: Joey the Rat

I was with you Bart, until you began to disrespect my religion and the Pope, who is my spiritual leader.

Dude, I rejected organized religion around 1962.

You don't help your point of view when you totally disrespect the religious beliefs of other people.

I don't attack people who believe in something.
I attack the hypocrisy of the money-grubbing charlatans.
If that includes Catholics, maybe you should give your faith a re-boot.

By the way, you're not still giving them money to pay off rape victims, are you?
That gives them the green light to rape more childrem - tell me you're not doing that.
Why would you want to suppoort an group of organized serial rapists?

Don't you read the news?
Is there a major US city that hasn't had a priest rape problem?
And you continue to support them?
I think you should give your position more thought.

I would never believe in any God who wanted my money.
Odds are you were taught to believe in that stuff before your brain worked properly.
That should be a crime - like raping a woman who's had too much to drink.

As I understand it, the Pope was attempting to open a dialogue between Christians
& Muslims about whether or not Islam advocates violence as part of it' religion---it's a
very legitimate question considering what Muslim have been doing in Darfur, Chechnia,
Iraq, Indonesia, the U.S. and many other countries.

Some Muslims say no it is not, others commit violent acts in the name of Islam.....
but for you to call the Pope 'Joey the Rat' only demeans YOU----no one else.

Apparently I know more about this Pope than you do.
Have you read the stories of how he Karl-Roved his way to the big chair?
He cheated, he twisted arms, he changed the rules and he consolidated power,
which is bad enough - but his first day as the Pope, he lied his ass off saying he
prayed that he wouldn't get the job, a job he campaigned for for years.

Serioudly, dude, you need to combine your brain with your faith.
If you look close, you may not like what you see.

You shot yourself in the foot on this one.....keep it up & you have lost a loyal fan.....me!
 L  in Tampa, FL

PS the fact that a nun was killed only proves how violent Muslims are...

Just understand that *I* haven't changed.  How loyal a fan could you be
if you somehow see this as some sudden change that's come over me?

The Catholic Church is shrinking faster than the polar caps because people are fed up with
the lies and the rapes and the "We'll get to it tomorrow" excuses these slugs use to explain
why they refused to sign and implement the Zero tolerance pledge against rapings kids.

Why are they stalling on taking that public pledge?

I think I have more credibility than the Catholic Church.
I never raped a kid, then covered it up and hid the truth for decades.

If there was a Heaven (there's not)
*I* would get in before the serial rapists would.

Subject: Just tell me you think we have a chance to win

Bartie,
Just tell me you think we have a chance against the rigged machines.
Do you think - as I'm praying for - that there's so many elections going on
that they won't be able to steal all of them?

I guess I want to hear it from you that you think these weak Democrats,
who have NOT fought to get every damn e-voting machine decertified,
can still get 'somewhat' of a real election where obviously they'd win?

Give a gal some hope?
-Elizabeth.

If the race is close, they'll steal it.
But if the Democrat is 10 points ahead, they might not take the chance.

If there are several races where the Dem was ahead that are "miracle" wins
for the bad guys, even the whore press might wonder how that happened.

Torture is torture

 Link

 Excerpt:
It's past time to stop mincing words. The Decider, or maybe we should now call him the Inquisitor,
sticks to anodyne euphemisms. He speaks of "alternative" questioning techniques, and his umbrella
term for the whole shop of horrors is "the program." Of course, he won't fully detail the methods
that were used in the secret CIA prisons - and who knows where else? - but various sources have
said they have included not just the infamous "waterboarding," which the administration apparently
will reluctantly forswear, but also sleep deprivation, exposure to cold, bombardment with ear-splitting
noise and other assaults that cause not just mental duress but physical agony.

That is torture, and to call it anything else is a lie.

If Bush calls torture "a ham sandwich," the networks will lead with that lie.
Hugo Chaves just called Bush "The Devil, and I can still smell the sulpher,"
and CNN thinks that's the funniest thing they ever heard - that Bush could be evil.

"He stood right here - I can
  still smell the sulpher..."

A great majority of planet Earth hates Bush and fears him more than Al Qaeda,
but CNN just laughs at world opinion.

Trust me, a lot of people around the globe are toasting to Chavez tonight.

Subject: Idea for the Democrats

The Dems should get the soundbite of the murder monkey saying
"I just don't spend that much time on him... I truly am not that
concerned about bin Laden" ...and cover the airwaves with radio and TV spots.

These arrogant swine say outrageous shit all the time because they think they're untouchable
(thanks to the useless MSM).  Surely any high profile Repug has said stuff on record that
could be used to disgrace them.  I can't be the first one to think of this.

Keep bashing,
David

Dave, Jon Stewart will do that stuff, but the Democrats can't figure it out.
I've offered to help their tiny brains, but they apparently don't want to win,
except for the  "power hungry" and "calculating" candidate.

I've said for a long time: All the Dems have to do is list the facts.
That's how Clinton won twice.  The GOP would tell a lie at 1 PM and at
1:15 Clinton's War Room replied to their Nazi lies with the simple truth.

It's easy to win, but they won't listen to me.

Subject: conspiracy nuts

Bart, I laughed when Alexander Cockburn wrote about "conspiracy nuts", as if history
isn't replete with conspiracies. That charge is going to come back and bite him in the ass
because, as you said, the 911 story is indigestible.

Lefties who avoid vote fraud and 911 examinations are labeling themselves as irrelevant.

P.S: 100% correct about Barbara Boxer.
 John F

We have no idea who killed JFK.
We have no idea who killed RFK
We have no idea who killed MLK
Wellstone and John Jr died "oddly," to say the least.
.
We are right to consider conspiracies because the BFEE makes them happen.
Why pardon the suspects BEFORE the trial if there's no conspiracy?

Plus, they're going to do it again because the Democrats won't take my advice
to publically warn Bush not to pardon his thugs BEFORE the trial.

Minibar Keys Open Diebold Machines

 Link

 Excerpt:
Like other computer scientists who have studied Diebold voting machines, we were surprised at
the apparent carelessness of Diebold's security design. It can be hard to convey this to nonexperts,
because the examples are technical. To security practitioners, the use of a fixed, unchangeable
encryption key and the blind acceptance of every software update offered on removable storage
are rookie mistakes; but nonexperts have trouble appreciating this. Here is an example that anybody,
expert or not, can appreciate:

The access panel door on a Diebold AccuVote-TS voting machine - the door that protects the
memory card that stores the votes, and is the main barrier to the injection of a virus - can be opened
with a standard key that is widely available on the Internet.

Just wondering.

Tim
From Indiana where Bushs' bitch Mitch is selling off the State.

I sure do.
No insurance is a crazy gamble - no sense in that.

In the 80s I worked for a guy who didn't believe in insurance.
His store burned, he lost everything, but he still didn't like insurance.
Years later, his store flooded and he lost everything again.
I doubt he has insurance today.

Party at the Palms

Friday night, a whole 'nother wave 'o folk swept into town.
Friday was kind of a wasted day (cough) but Friday night, we agreed to go to Rain.
Not being hip, not knowing how influential bartcop.com is, they made us wait like
common folk for about 30 minutes to get into their second-fanciest club.

Sidebar:
I'm a busy man, I got shit to do.
Waiting in line was not part of my plans for the weekend.

...but then Eureka Bob talked a security dude into letting us skip past steerage and we were escorted
up to the front entrance to the club. When I asked Eureka Bob how he accomplished that, he said,
"I'm a salesman. That's what I do for a living. I convince people."

Hey, you can't argue with success.

So we went inside and right away, The Don or his wife found a cubbyhole.
Who knew that Rain had semi-private cubbyholes.
Of course, we snatched it up and occupied it like we were the America army.

All we needed was an exhaust fan and a waitress, but we got neither.
Plus, the music was pounding - we had to scream to communicate - so we pulled the pin.

The BIG day was next.

Eldrick upset over wife photos

 Link

Excerpt:
Tiger Woods was outraged Wednesday at a Irish magazine that linked photos of his wife
to various pornography sites, and his agent was studying the merits of a lawsuit.

"My wife, yes, she has been a model, and she did do some bikini photos," Eldrick said.

The Dubliner magazine, calling it "satire," wrote, "Most American golfers are married to women who
cannot keep their clothes on in public. Is it too much to ask that they leave them home for the Ryder Cup?
Consider the evidence. Tiger Woods' wife can be found in a variety of sweaty poses on porn sites."

...

Is this the same girl?
