How Democrats
Might Blow It
by Robert Parry
consortiumnews.com
Excerpt:
As Democrats go through their biennial rite of
premature victory celebrations, they are inviting defeat
again by obsessing on polls about how many congressional
seats are "in play" rather than on explaining
to the American people what a Republican victory
on Nov. 7 would mean to the nation.
The Republican congressional victories in Election
2002 convinced Bush that the voters were behind
his plans for "preemptive" wars. He called Election
2004 his "accountability moment," ratifying both
his invasion of Iraq and his expansion of executive
powers.
So, there should be little illusion how Bush would
interpret a Republican upset victory on Nov. 7. It would
be taken as a public embrace of his authoritarian
vision for America's future and as an endorsement of the
neoconservative commitment to wage "World War
III" against Islamic militants around the world.
If the GOP keeps control of Congress, Bush would
be strongly tempted to double up on his bloody wager
in Iraq with military attacks on Iran and Syria.
That expanded war would guarantee reprisals by radicalized
Muslims around the world and thus draw the United
States into a virtually endless conflict.

Obama thinking
'08
latimes
Excerpt:
Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois said Sunday that
he was considering a run for president in 2008,
backing away from previous pledges to serve out
his full six-year Senate term.
Twice before on "Meet the Whore" Obama stated
flatly that he would serve his full Senate term.
On Sunday, he attributed his possible change
of heart to "the responses that I've been getting
over the last several months" while campaigning
for Democratic candidates across the country.
We all like Obama, but let's get real.
As far as I know, he's been in politics less than two years.
Where does he get the ego that he's ready to be president?

Yeah, beware what the Democrats do with the economy.

A growing number of GOP incumbents in seats once
considered "safe" are struggling this month

Then, 18 GOP seats were endangered; now, 48 are

"our upcoming losses."

Subject: Why would Shirley downplay
her appearance?
Bart,
I would guess that she wants to know she is appreciated
as an artist and not for being
the typical hot looking female rocker that use
their looks to help them achieve success
never knowing if they are appreciated as an artist.
I know, some probably don't care.
I get that, but isn't she in the business of selling CDs?
In the last 8 years, Garbage was not in the top 100 in sales.
Being a musician myself, I am acutely aware of
bands that use hot looking women
to achieve success and others who refuse to do
that and consequently don't have
as big a following even though they may have
a better band.
I agree that money isn't everything, and maybe she should be applauded
for eschewing the cash,
(I've never used eschewing before - how'd I do?) but why look great
for the interview and then
dress like a homeless bag lady for the stage performance? It's
called show business.
She seems to look great no matter what she's wearing.
Although, I didn't see the potato sack dress
appearance.

The worst
congress ever
led by the worst president ever
rollingstone.com
Excerpt:
There is very little that sums up the record
of the U.S. Congress in the Bush years better than a
half-mad boy-addict put in charge of a federal
commission on child exploitation. After all, if a
hairy-necked, raincoat-clad freak like Rep. Mark
Foley can get himself named co-chairman of
the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children,
one can only wonder: What the hell else
is going on in the corridors of Capitol Hill
these days?
These past six years were more than just the most
shameful, corrupt and incompetent period
in the history of the American legislative branch.
These were the years when the U.S. parliament
became a historical punch line, a political obscenity
on par with the court of Nero or Caligula
- a stable of thieves and perverts who committed
crimes rolling out of bed in the morning and
did their very best to turn the mighty American
empire into a debt-laden, despotic backwater,
a Burkina Faso with cable.
Maybe it was on 60 Minutes, I heard the Democrats promised to "play
fair" if they manage
to win control of one of the Houses - typical surrender Monkey democrats.
If I was in charge, I'd tell the Fascist bastards that we would start
playing fair in January 2009,
but for now they're going to eat the same shit they've been feeding
us for the last few years.
But the Democrats are all about "being fair," which is why they can't
win.

Will is in Paris
US Arrogance
in Iraq
by Ivan Eland
consortiumnews.com
Excerpt:
As George W. Bush repudiates his own slogan "stay
the course" -- because it has become a drag
on Republican candidates -- his administration
is looking for some new way to keep the American
electorate in line by raising some hope that
victory in Iraq is just over the horizon. That worked in
Election 2004 when Bush could cite an upcoming
Iraqi election as the expected turning point.
But optimism in Iraq is getting to be a harder
and harder sell. Bush's latest pitch seems to be centered
on the notion of convincing voters that he's
adopting new U.S. military tactics and taking a tougher line
with Iraq's floundering government. In this guest
essay, however, the Independent Institute's Ivan Eland
argues that the problems in Iraq are too intractable
for pre-election gimmicks to work:
