Bush Bamboozles
Democrats - Again
by Robert Parry
consortiumnews.com
Excerpt:
...in rushing Gates's nomination through with
only pro forma hearings, the Democrats sacrificed a rare
opportunity to demand answers from the Bush administration
about its war policy at a time when the
White House wanted something from the Democrats,
i.e. the quick confirmation of Gates.
The Democrats could have used an extended confirmation
hearing to explore, in detail, Gates's views
about the military challenges in the Middle East
and ascertain what he knew about Bush's future plans.
They also could have taken time to examine exactly
who Gates is, whether he is the right man to oversee
the complex conflicts in the Middle East, and
what his real record was in handling regional issues in the past

were just following Mr Rove's orders..."

Steno-Jude:
Libby is lying
Link
Excerpt:
Judith Miller testified Tuesday that "Scooter"
Libby identified a CIA operative to her on two occasions
on dates earlier than he has told investigators
he first heard the information from another reporter.
Miller, the former BFEE employee hired by the
New York Times to lie to us, spent 85 days in jail trying to
avoid revealing these conversations, said Libby
outed Valerie Plame on June 23 and July 8, 2003.
Libby, then Cheney's chief of staff, lied to the
FBI that he thought he was hearing Valerie Plame's CIA job
for the first time from NBC's Tim Russert (R-Whore)
on July 10, 2003.
Five government officials, including Ari Fleischer
(R-Forked Tongue), also have testified
that they discussed Plame and her CIA job with
Libby before July 10.
The Dems need to warn Bush NOT to PARDON Libby until all the facts have
come out.
They won't, and they'll feign suprise and shock when Bush covers all
this up.

A Case for
Impeachment
by Robert Scheer
truthdig.com
Excerpt:
Not all lies are created equal. It is understood
that there is a chasm of importance between little white lies
and big black ones. Most would agree that lying
about an affair, even by the president, is of lesser concern
than lying about the proliferation of nuclear
weapons as an excuse to take the nation to war.
How then is it possible that a Republican-controlled
Congress impeached Clinton over marital infidelity but
Democrats will not even consider impeaching Bush
for far more serious transgressions against the public trust?
That is the question that arises from early revelations
in the trial of Scooter Libby.
This case's importance lies not in the narrow
charge that Libby committed perjury that was merely one facet
of a far-ranging plot to deceive Congress and
the public about perhaps the most important issue of our time:
the prospect of terrorists obtaining a weapon
of mass destruction."

Excerpt:
The Washington Whore Post has quietly retreated
from a legal battle with Cheney by dropping
a lawsuit demanding Secret Service logs of visitors
to his office and residence.
Before the Post abruptly backed down, its case
was shaping up as a high-profile clash between
Cheney's absurd notions of executive privilege

the right to know about lobbying and influence
peddling at the highest levels of government.
The WaHoPo has become a top ally of this outlaw

Subject: Does anyone believe
Bush now?
It's interesting that what's coming out of the
Scooter Libby trial
We're seeing how the Bush administration lied
to us about the reasons for the war with Iraq.
It was a deliberate fabrication.
At the same time this is coming out - Bush is
fabricating a new war with Iran.
The militias are now the "Iranian backed militias".
All of a sudden the Iranians are behind everything.
Bush is speaking the language of war and is actively
justifying an upcoming attack on Iran.
Does anyone believe him this time?
It's time for Bush to step down.

US 'victory'
was a 'massacre'
news.independent.co.uk
Excerpt:
There are growing suspicions in Iraq that the
official story of the battle between a messianic Iraqi cult
and the Iraqi security forces supported by the
US, in which 263 people were killed and 210 wounded,
is a fabrication. The heavy casualties may be
evidence of an unpremeditated massacre. A picture is
beginning to emerge of a clash between an Iraqi
Shia tribe on a pilgrimage to Najaf and an Iraqi army
checkpoint that led the US to intervene with
devastating effect. The story emerging on independent
Iraqi websites and in Arabic newspapers is entirely
different from the government's account of the battle
with the so-called "Soldiers of Heaven", planning
a raid on Najaf to kill Shia religious leaders.
That can't be right.
Our military would never try to cover up a massacre, would they?

Subject: JFK Assassination
and E. Howard Hunt
Dear Bart:
I see that E. Howard Hunt recently passed away
and I thought it deserved a comment at Bartcop.
Mr. Hunt was one of the 3 so-called hobos caught
fleeing the scene of the JFK assassination on 11-22-63.
One of the other hobos was Frank Sturgis.
These two are clearly identified in Coup D'E'tat in America
a book by Alan Weberman and Michael Canfield.
They use transparent overlays of Hunt and Sturgis over
photos of the hobos so you can see for yourself.
Their heights, noses, ears and faces exactly match.
(Hunt had his ears surgically altered after the
assassination) The added chapter in the 2nd edition,
published in 1992, debunks the claimed ID of
3 other individuals from alleged arrest records that,
while lost for almost 30 years were just "discovered."
Weberman and Canfield's claims were published
by Liberty Lobby in The Spotlight in 1978.
E. Howard Hunt filed a defamation suit against
Liberty Lobby. Mark Lane defended Liberty Lobby
and wrote about it in his excellent book Plausible
Denial, published in 1991. Liberty Lobby's defense
was based on the truth of the accusations.
Eventually, Hunt offered to settle for $1.00.
Instead, the defendants took it to trial and won
a unanimous jury verdict that the accusations were true.
During the trial, Hunt offered up several conflicting
alibis that were disproved, one after another.
Hunt and Sturgis were convicted of breaking into
the Watergate for Richard Nixon.
Another Watergate convict, Bernard Barker, was
also placed on the scene of the JFK assassination
on 11-22-63 by several eye witnesses.
I thought you might find this interesting.
Warm regards,
Jim W.

Smoke and
giant space mirrors
That's Bush's plan to stop global warming
guardian.co.uk
Excerpt:
Bush wants the world's scientists to develop
technology to block sunlight as a last-ditch way to halt
global warming, the Guardian has learned. It
says research into techniques such as giant mirrors in space
or reflective dust pumped into the atmosphere
would be "important insurance" against rising emissions,
and has lobbied for such a strategy to be recommended
by a major UN report on climate change.
The US says the idea of interfering with sunlight
should be included in the summary for policymakers,
the prominent chapter at the front of each IPCC
report. It says: "Modifying solar radiance may be an
important strategy if mitigation of emissions
fails. Doing the R&D to estimate the consequences of
applying such a strategy is important insurance
that should be taken out. This is a very important
possibility that should be considered."
You mean if we just pollute more, and darken the skies with soot,
we can block out the sun and save Earth from global warming?
...
I think Bush's oil buddies can be counted on to do that.

Subject: BartCop signs at march
on 1/27/07
Hello Mr. Bart:
Saw plenty of your most excellent signs at the
anti-war march on Saturday in Washington DC.
Don't believe the media lie - there were hundreds
of thousands - not a couple thousand.
In fact when the front of the march circled the
Capitol and got back to the mall
there were people just starting the march!
Kudos to Rep. Maxine Waters for getting the DC
cops and Capitol police
to move the busses blocking the streets so that
we could circle the Capitol building.
All in all it was a great day - but we have to
keep on the heat and pressure
so that Congress does the right thing.

How This
White House Operates
WaHoPo
Excerpt:
From the first time the White House was asked
about exposing Valerie Plame, the answer was consistent.
As Scott McClellan said: "That is not the way
this President or this White House operates."
But in the course of the Scooter Libby trial,
one thing has become quite clear:
That is precisely the way this White House operates.
Faced with accusations that they had marched the
country to war on evidence they knew was suspect,
White House aides evidently responded with little
if any restraint in attempting to discredit their critics.
The White House's ferocity -- compounded by an
easily
distracted whore
press corps and a Republican
Congress not the least bit interested in oversight
-- successfully kept crucial information about Bush's use
and abuse of prewar intelligence out of the public
sphere through the 2004 election and, arguably, to this day.

Iraq War: Son vs. Father
by Ivan Eland
consortiumnews.com
Excerpt:
The Iraq War is a tragic story of miscalculation
and hubris that has claimed the lives of 3,000 American
soldiers and possibly hundreds of thousands of
Iraqis. But the war may have another dimension,
a psychological conflict between a headstrong
son and his disapproving father. In this guest essay,
Ivan Eland says one motive in George W. Bush's
decision to plunge deeper into the Iraq quagmire
may be that he won't admit that his father was
right.

Subject: America's whore press
The "Ho" in WaHoPo should be up front.
In Tuesday's paper (Jan 30), buried on p. 12,
is a full-column article titled
"Equipment for Added Troops Is Lacking: New Iraq
Forces Must Make Do, Officials Say."
The article talks about how there is nowhere near
enough equipment (trucks, Humvees, armor, etc.)
for the troops now in Iraq and sending Bush's
latest victims will strain things even more. There isn't
even enough housing for them, and since Bush's
new lackey general is whining that he needs his
cannon fodder NOW, there won't be enough time
to train them or fill out the ranks of the units.
The Army and Marine generals also reported to
Congress that the escalation is putting a huge strain
on overall readiness and our ability to meet
other threats (d'uh). Here's
the link.
There's no headline or link on the website; I
had to do a search to find it.
So what's on page 1, you ask? Some real
stories, of course.
But also, above the fold, "Fairfax Shines in
Jobs Report," and below the fold,
"Virginia Men Face Trial in Peddling Phony Purses"
and "Accusations Devastate 2 Va. Churches,"
and of course, Barbaro.
The equipment shortage story doesn't even make
the "Inside" table of contents on the front.
Two-thirds of the above-the-fold space is a color
photo of workers at the site of the new
Washington Nationals stadium.
Hey, priorities, dude.

Reagan &
the Salvadoran Baby Skulls
by Robert Parry
consortiumnews.com
Excerpt:
Ronald Reagan's many admirers may find this idea
offensive, but - given a new report by the Washington Post
- it might be fitting to have a display at Reagan
National Airport to show how Salvadoran baby skulls were used
as candle holders and good luck charms. Perhaps
the presentation could contain skeletal remains of Guatemalans
and Nicaraguans, too.
It might be modeled after skeletons on display
in Cambodia from the slaughters by the Khmer Rouge. After all,
it was President Reagan - more than any other
person - who justified and facilitated the barbarity that raged
through Central America in the 1980s, claiming
the lives of tens of thousands of peasants, clergy and students,
men, women and children.
Reagan portrayed the bloody conflicts as a necessary
front in the Cold War, but the Central American violence
was always more about entrenched ruling elites
determined to retain their privileges against impoverished peasants,
including descendants of the region's Maya Indians,
seeking social, political and economic reforms.
