Right attacks
'Sicko'
by Jay Diamond
consortiumnews.com
Excerpt:
IDo a search on "Hannity 'Sicko'" or "Romney
'Sicko''' and you will find Sean Hannity recycling talking points
off the panicked presses of the Heritage Foundation,
CEI, AEI, Manhattan Institute, etc., bearing dire warnings
of the health care terror Michael Moore and other
evil progressives are preparing to inflict on America.
But in all their fear-mongering invocations of
the purported evils of "socialized medicine," there is something that
Romney, Hannity, and all the other American rightists
consistently omit; and in that deliberate omission is an
important lesson in the way America's hard right
works their deceptions.
They never mention that there are more individuals
right here in the United States who receive their health
coverage on what you call "socialized medicine"
than there are people in the entire country of France.
Add up all the people on Medicare and the Veterans
Administration.

W learns
from Students
Link
Excerpt:
A group of high school Presidential Scholars
visiting the White House on Monday surprised Bush by slipping him
a handwritten letter pleading with him not to
let America become known for torture and urging him to stick to the
Geneva Conventions with terror detainees.
Since it's rare that Mr. Bush ever sees groups
that have not been prescreened to be nice to him, he made the mistake
of opening the letter in front of the students
and was surprised to learn that he has made many Americans ashamed by
subverting values that the country has always
held dear, like abiding by the Constitution and respecting human dignity.
"We asked him to remove the signing statement
attached to the anti-torture bill, which would have allowed
presidential power to make exemptions to the
ban on torture," said Mari Oye from Wellesley, Mass.
Bush has no shame, so he'll continue to kidnap
and torture and murder whoever he wants,
and he'll continue to steal hundreds of millions
of dollars a day from Iraq's oil fields.

A legal
noose around Bush
by Sidney Blumenthal
opendemocracy.net
Excerpt:
The resistance within the administration to Bush's
torture policy, the ultimate expression of the war paradigm,
has come to an end through attrition and exhaustion.
More than two years ago, "Scooter" Libby and then general
counsel David Addington physically cornered one
of the few internal opponents, subjecting him to threats,
intimidation and isolation. About that time,
the tiny band of opponents within approached Karen Hughes,
hoping that the long-time confidante of
Bush, might be willing to hear them out on the damage done by
continuation of the torture policy. But she rebuffed
them.
Didn't Bush push thru a law that says anything they do concerning the
war is legal?

Can Gore
save the Earth and John Edwards?
towncalleddobson.com
Excerpt:
I am truly saddened about Edwards' message not
being as well embraced as I had hoped.
He is running a vastly different campaign than
I recall seeing before. He has made it a point
to bring activism to the issues instead of the
same tired message of "vote for me."
I was especially impressed how he went to the
mat on the war funding bill.
His message of send it back was strong, well
received and really did separate him from
the rest of the hand wringers who waited to the
last minute to vote "no" on the funding bill.
Reminder: It's a lot easier to be for or against an issue when
you have no constituency,
no angry mob of voters to face or to hold your feet to the fire when
they might disagree.
Obama might have voted for the Iraq Resolution if the Sears Tower was
brought down.
and Edwards doesn't have to worry that Carolina is what, maybe 50/50
on this war (?)
because he could lose Carolina and still be president.
Show me a senator who always does the right thing and I'll show you
his headstone.

Who's the
Phoney?
by Gene Lyons
nwanews.com
Excerpt:
From 1992, the GOP smear machine made Wright
look like a prophet. They accused Clinton of everything
from bank fraud to drug-smuggling, rape, even
murder. I once asked the late Rev. Jerry Falwell, who peddled
the infamous "Clinton Chronicles," if the commandment
against bearing false witness was less important than
the other nine. He said no, then alibied that
he didn't know if the allegations in the video were true or not.
That's actually a better answer than you'd get
from The Washington Post.
Today, many Democrats harbor similar misgivings
about Hillary Clinton's candidacy. Is the U. S. ready to
elect any woman, much less her ? Issues aside,
many fear that her nomination would set off a bizarre national
psychodrama ending with Democrats losing the
most crucial (and winnable ) presidential election in living memory.
Others are simply sick of her the way they're
sick of Paris Hilton and the media's prurient speculation.
I haven't heard anybody say this yet, so I'll say it.
I think Gene's right, people ARE sick of hearing trash about the Clintons.
Besides talk radio and FOX News, who wants to talk about Clinton's cock
for the next 8 years?.
I think it's dangerous for any Republican to try to bring up the past.
For one, it invites comparisons to Der Murder Monkey.
When someone says, "Do we want 8 more years
of Filegate, Travelgate, Blowjobs, etc?"
the answer might be, "That's
better than terror, invasions, torture, renditions and signing statements."
I don't think the Republican presidential candidates or the networks
want to get into that same swamp and
dirty themselves up with hundreds more wild-as accusations when Bush
has committed so many more serious,
obvious and tangible crimes right under our nose.

Excerpt:
Support for the bloody war in Iraq and Afghanistan
and American efforts against terrorism have dropped
since 2002, according to the nonpartisan Pew
Research Center. Views of the U.S. in much of the Muslim
world remain particularly negative.
In one measure of Bush's unpopularity, the poll
showed he is less trusted on foreign policy than Putin
by allies Britain, Germany and Canada, even as
faith in Putin has plummeted. About half in the U.S.
say they have little or no trust in either leader's
conduct of foreign affairs.
(Liars! That's 70%)
Bush's sagging numbers partly reflect widespread
opposition to Bush's illegal occupation of Iraq.
Of the countries surveyed - which included the
U.S. - more people favored the removal of
American forces from Iraq in all but Israel,
Ghana, Nigeria and Kenya.

Congress: F.O and Die
Constitutional showdown is looming
Link
Excerpt:
President Bush asserted executive privilege Thursday
and rejected lawmakers' demands for documents
that could shed light on the firings of federal
prosecutors.
Bush's attorney says they would not turn over
subpoenaed documents for Bush nanny Harriet Miers and
former political director Sara Taylor. Congressional
panels want the documents for their investigations of
Tortureboy Gonzales' stewardship of the Justice
Department, including complaints of undue political influence.
Here we go again.
A "showdown" looms, but Bush always wins the showdowns.
Both sides will posture and spit, then they'll get behiond closed doors
and Harry Reid and Pat Leahy
will cave in - like fucking always - and then they'll jointly announce
that they've come to "an agreement"
where Bush gets every-fucking-thing he wants.

Agave commodity
chicagotrib
Excerpt:
Tequila could be the ruin of Fernando Chavarin.
The sugar cane farmer has invested $18,000 to
grow agave, the raw material for tequila.
He couldn't resist jumping in. Agave prices had
soared because planting had not kept up
with the global thirst for tequila.
Unfortunately for Chavarin, thousands of other
farmers had the same idea. As the crops planted
in 2000 and 2001 reach their cycle for harvest,
the market is drowning in agave.
The oversupply has caused prices to tumble to
less than $4 per plant, from a peak of $70.
Agave farmers are going bankrupt, even burning
their crops in despair. Some farmers have blockaded tequila
distilleries, begging them to buy their plants
before they rot away in the rugged fields of Jalisco state.
"We all thought we were going to be rich," said
Chavarin, 51. "But we can't scold anyone.
We have the blame for planting it. If we lose
it, we lose it. I'm not going to cry."
Well I'm going to cry.
How can we be "drowning in agave" when I can't find Chinaco at the spirits
store?
And fine tequila hasn't gotten any cheaper.

BuzzFlash:
How you do handle callers? If a caller upsets you, do you just cut them
off?
Mike Malloy:
It depends on the nature of the caller. Most right-wing or conservative
callers,
or people who call who think they're going to
challenge me on a specific point, are functionally illiterate.
Their minds are capable of parroting only what
they've heard from Rush Limbaugh, or a Free Republic,
or Sean Hannity. They are incapable of carrying
on a dialogue. They are eaten up with right-wing religious garbage.

Subject: Electric cars
Bart,
Grego is right. You need to see Who Killed
the Electric Car.
It is a great entertaining and educational movie
by Disney narrarated by Martin Sheen.
It is not an accident that these cars were destroyed
in the early 2000's during W's administration.
Buy a copy of this movie, like I did, and enjoy
it with your friends. You will learn a lot.

Also, you need to know that there is another company
that is perfecting electric cars RIGHT NOW!
The company is Tesla Motors.
Take a look at their site and you may want to
buy one with all the money
you are making from being a bastion of liberal
thought.

My Dad has been singing Bill Richardson's praises
ever since he entered the race.
Thank GAHD he didn't see him on MEET THE WHORE.
I sat there with my jaw dropped listening to him
stumbling to avoid answering questions.
It was a startlingly BAD performance on Richardson's
part, and I find it nearly impossible
to picture him as even a VP candidate after see
how truly lost and clueless he was with Russert.
Respectfully,

It's hard to believe he's so bad at answering
questions he's heard 100 times before.
Remember the one about his favorite Supreme Court
justice? (That he double flunked.)
Last night, Larry King asked Paris Hilton what
her favorite Bible verse was.
She said she didn't have a favorite,
because she's smart enough to know whatever answer
she gave, it would be shoved down her throat
(so to speak) for the rest of her life.

Hilton.

Subject: Kerry & campaign
history
Bart,
There's a little more to it (The Swiftboating)
than that.
I disagree, but I'll read your e-mail before I
reply.
With the Rovian convention slated for Sep 11,
Bushco had a two month campaign in which to spend their $100 million.
Kerry had a three month campaign, beginning with
the end-of-July Democon. Rove attacked right after the convention
in order to elicit an expensive response to try
to draw down the strictly limited war chest.
They, Kerry and crew, made a strategic decision
to wait until they could go toe to toe with the principals rather than
dignify what everyone knew were slanderous aspersions.
He didn't decide not to fight or to throw it to his Bones Brother.
If he had fought through August and run out of
funds in early October, how would that sit with you?
They made their choices and spent their money.
Bad choices?
Perhaps, but we will never know if it wold have
been worse after an August bloodbath.
Peter
Peter, Kerry made so many bad decisions I couldn't pick out the ten
worst.
But it costs NOTHING to fire off a fax to the whore AP, CNN, CBS, NBC,
ABC etc.
That's what Clinton did right in 92 and 96.
Everytime the GOP slime machine made an outrageous accusation,
Clinton's War Room fired off a fax correcting them and showing how
the Republicans were actually guilty of the charges they fabricated
against Clinton.
It works every time - if the truth is on your side.
Funny how Gore forgot that.
Funny how Kerry forgot that.
Well, maybe funny ain't the right word.
