How our
Media Loved the War
by
Norman Soloman
consortiumnews.com
Excerpt:
FAIR's Peter Hart has assemble a sample of notable
quotations from media cheerleading for the Iraq invasion.
For instance, soon after the invasion began, FOX's
Fred Barnes declared: "The American public knows
how important this war is, and is not as casualty
sensitive as the weenies in the American press are."
(Unsurpassed bravery is a common denominator
of rabid hawks in stateside TV studios.)
Brian Williams: "They are calling this
the cleanest war in all of military history," Williams said on April 2,
2003.
"They stress they're fighting a regime and not
the people, using smart bombs, not dumb, older munitions.
But there have been and will be accidents. ..."
Katie Couric: "Thank you for coming on
the show. And I want to add, I think the Special Forces rock!"
Chris Matthews: "We're all neo-cons now."
Lou Dobbs: "Bush looked like a commander
in chief, rock star, movie star and one of the guys."
Several hundred thousand Iraqi civilian deaths
later, the most reliable epidemiology available confirms
that those claims were more than misleading.
They were fundamentally out of touch with human reality.
If we had a free press, we could get the truth.
But America's news media is about making money,
not telling the truth.

"There is another clock, not often mentioned,
that sits in the Pentagon. It is the Broken Army clock,
the service timeline for an exhausted
force. According to the Broken Army clock, troop levels will
begin to wane in March 2008, no matter
what Congress decides in September; the current 20 brigade
combat teams will be reduced to 15
by August 2008."
-- Joe Klein, time.whore
So, no matter what, 1/4 of our troops
will come home six months before the election.
I wonder if Karl Rove will call that
"evidence that Bush was successful in Iraq?"

Whatever
Happened to Osama?
"We can make more money stealing Iraq's oil than finding the Boogeyman..."
Link
Excerpt:
Almost six years after 9-11, bin Laden eludes
capture and remains a thorn in the side of US anti-terror efforts.
"It seems likely that word would have leaked out
if bin Laden had died, , so we assume he is alive," says Richard Clarke.
"His location, however, is totally unknown."
The world last heard from bin Laden in June 2006 when he issued a statement
praising the efforts of Zarqawi who had been
recently killed in Iraq. There has been no new video since October 2004.
Most experts think Osama is in Pakistan, where Bush ally Musharraf has
issued him amnesty.
Bush doesn't want Osama caught - he must have to obey our laws if that
happened.

NYC stiffed
again on terror funds
"New York never liked me - why should we protect them?"
Link
Excerpt:
New York has again been stiffed by George W Bush
in the distribution of federal anti-terrorism funding,
members of the state's congressional delegation
complained Saturday.
Sen. Charles Schumer and Rep. Peter King said
the city is scheduled to receive about $134 million
- $73 million less than the city received two
years ago.
"Why do they persist in giving money to places
that need it a lot less than New York City?" said Schumer.
"It's a disgrace. It's confounding. ... It's
once again unfair to New York. Our needs are different than any other city."
Hey, if you want terror funding, you have to move
to a state Bush carried in 2004.
Why would Bush spend money on New York?

CIA Media
Manipulation
apfn.org
Excerpt:
Media assets and 400 journalists, who have secretly
carried out assignments according to documents on file at
CIA headquarters, from intelligence-gathering
to serving as go-betweens. The CIA had infiltrated the nation's
businesses, media, and universities with tens
of thousands of on-call operatives by the 1950's. CIA Director Dulles
had staffed the CIA almost exclusively with Ivy
League graduates, especially from Yale with figures like George
Herbert Walker Bush from the "Skull and Crossbones"
Society.
Many Americans still insist or persist in believing
that we have a free press, while getting most of their news from
state-controlled television, under the misconception
that reporters are meant to serve the public. Reporters are paid
employees and serve the media owners, who usually
cower when challenged by advertisers or major government figures.
Robert Parry reported the first breaking stories
about Iran-Contra for Associated Press that were largely
ignored by the press and congress, then moving
to Newsweek he witnessed a retraction of a true story
for political reasons. In 'Fooling
America: A Talk by Robert Parry' he said, "The people who succeeded
and did well were those who didn't stand
up, who didn't write the big stories, who looked the other
way
when history was happening in front of them,
and went along either consciously or just by cowardice
with the deception of the American people.

Subject: Guiliani the "idiot"
and the WTC command center
Hey Bart, you wrote,
> "The idiot [Guiliani], against all advice,
but the WTC terrorism office in the WTC.
> So when it was hit, all he could do was
walk the streets because he had no office."
Recall, however, that this command center was
in WTC-7, the building that was not hit
by anything on that day, but "mysteriously" collapsed
late in the afternoon.
It's often easier to assume that illogical decisions
were the result of bad planning,
but in this case, it worked out very conveniently.
The command center would have been the best place
in NY to monitor or coordinate the attacks.
And then the whole building came down, a 47-story
steel structure collapsing in less than ten seconds
from small fires in the bottom few floors. (Notably,
the NIST report on the WTC-7 collapse STILL
hasn't come out, after almost six years.)
Even Republicans don't promote and reward people
who make plain stupid decisions.
The stupider it seems on its face, the more likely
something more sinister is at work.
Like you say, would evil men kill to steal billions
of dollars?

Seems to me that Powell was secretary in

Instead of being tough, leahy just did "let's

If leahy had listened to bartcop, he would not
have folded so easy, but would have said,
"Rove will not testify under oath? Why is he
afraid to tell the truth? Does he have something to hide?
This administration says that Americans who
have nothing to hide should welcome Bush's illegal wiretaps,

Nixon on
Fred Thompson: "He's Dumb as Hell"
pensitoreview.com
Excerpt:
Fred Thompson, then 30, was appointed counsel
by Howard Baker, the top Republican on the Senate committee.
Nixon was disappointed with the selection of Thompson,
whom he called "dumb as hell." Nixon did not think
Thompson was skilled enough to interrogate unfriendly
witnesses and would be outsmarted by the Democratics.
(Remember? There was a time when the Democrats
had brains - and courage.)
This assessment comes from audiotapes of White
House conversations recently reviewed by the Associated Press
"Oh, shit, that kid?" Nixon said when Haldeman
told him of Thompson's appointment on Feb. 22, 1973.
"Well, we're stuck with him," Haldeman said.

Bart, you wrote
> But I forgot to mention that that Bush &

Come now, Bart. You know that's wrong.
Smirk's got way more than two.
All his Texas DUIs were scrubbed (along with
his entire driving record and his coke rap)
when he became governor.
I remember that - Bush's Texas drivers license
number is something like 0001.
But I digress. Rightly, Gore III's record
should be compared to Brother Jeb's dismal brood.
Call me when young Al's been arrested as many
times as Noelle.
What secret prison have they been hiding her
in, the last couple of years?
It's been a while, but didn't Noelle get busted
with cocaine at the rehab center?
I remember because Jeb ruled that it was legal
to have cocaine at a treatment center.
Of course, their children's crimes should be irrelevant,
except insofar as they reflect their
parents' skill at parenting. Looking at
the DoubleScotch Twins' record,
it's tough to pretend that Smirk has anything
to brag about.

Your whore
news at work
MSNBC, Fox News devoted far more time to
Edwards' haircuts than to Domenici's war backdown
mediamatters.org
Excerpt:
On July 5, MSNBC and Fox News devoted significantly
more time to covering a report on John Edwards'
haircuts than they did to covering Sen. Pete
Domenici's press conference on the Iraq war, at which he called for
"a new strategy that will move our troops out
of combat operations." CNN was the only cable news network
to spend more time covering Domenici's announcement
than Edwards' haircuts.
Between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. ET on July 5, MSNBC
devoted approximately 15 minutes to the Edwards haircut
and only 1 minute, 20 seconds to Domenici. Further,
Fox News devoted approximately 16 minutes to the Edwards
story during that same time period, and only
1 minute, 40 seconds to Domenici. CNN, meanwhile, devoted
approximately 12 minutes to covering Domenici
and approximately 45 seconds to Edwards.
So, the whore press is doing such a bad job, they're making CNN look
good?

u put it.
Click
this link for a little enlightenment on Bill Clinton.
If u are so smart than explain all of pardons.
You don't have to be smart to win a debate with
a monkey.
I have an IQ of 64 and I'm mostly undefeated....and
I'm not going to explain "all" the pardons.
There has not been a president in the last 20
years who has not pardoned somebody for something.
Explain that one to me OH Smart One
DEE
Here are the facts:
Clinton pardoned his brother after he did his time.
Clinton pardoned Susan McDougal after she did her time - and she didn't
even commit a crime.
He caught shit for pardoning Mark Rich, who was a client of Scooter
Libby.
More facts:
I don't know anything about Mark Rich.
You don't know anything about Mark Rich.
Nobody knows anything about Mark Rich, but since the Republicans own
the TV networks
and newspepers, they manufactured some outrage to throew gas on the
fake outrage fire.
Remember, Jan 20 2001 was the day the Bushies claimed the Clinton's
trashed the Wghite House
and stripped AirForce One bare, but funny how there were no cameras
in DC on Inauguration day.
More facts:
Bush 41
pardoned Reagan's cabinet
to bury
the evidence of his Iran-Contra crimes.
More facts:
Bush 43
pardoned Libby to bury the evidence
of his
fake war that's killed 3600 soldiers.
You can't compare Clinton and the Bush family Evil Empire.
Bush got 3600 soldiers killed stealing Iraq's oil - that's why he had
to pardon Libby.
BTW - did you think you had a chance?

GOP hawks'
sudden conversion
by Joe Conason
salon.com
Excerpt:
It was predictable that endangered Republicans
in the Senate, fearing punishment by angry Americans for their
complicity in the Iraq war, would seek to escape
the political vortex created by the sinking Bush administration.
They gaze upon McCain's abandoned shipwreck of
a presidential campaign and suddenly realize that they too
can no longer ignore the grim message of the
pollsters...But the survival instincts of these politicians -- all eager
war
enthusiasts when the war still seemed popular
-- are of less interest than their survival strategies. To save their seats,
several of the most endangered Republican senators
have suddenly discovered the virtues of the Iraq Study Group's
report issued last December. This too was predictable,
especially because the Senate Democrats lacked the wit to
adopt those bipartisan ISG recommendations negotiated
withdrawal."
All you have to do is go to senate.gov and see
which Republican senators are up in 2008.
The Republicans are willing to let thosands of
our soldiers die - unless it costs them their seat.
Then they discover that Bush is a crazy killer,
hell-bent on "staying the course" on his unwinnable quagmire.

Subject: Kos
Political conversions are not uncommon, especially
early on in life. Most of us tend to pickup the politics
of our parents and, only later, develop our own
ideas and act on them. I was raised Republican, but turned
lefty pretty soon after I began to really think
for myself. Even Hillary was a "Goldwater Girl" in her teens.
Adrianna was always a bit of a European socialist
on family support and children's issues, and tried to use
her husband's Republican credentials to get ahead.
She finally left that party when she realized that
"compassionate" conservatism was a sham.
I can't speak for Kos, but let's not forget that
Republicans used to be strong supporters of individual rights,
privacy issues and civil liberties (except for
the southern racist wing). It was their libertarian streak.
But since the fundies have taken over, that is
long past, and has caused many to flee the party.

Why They
Really 'Hate Us'
by Ivan Eland
consortiumnews.com
Excerpt:
To fully understand Islamic terrorism, one needs
to understand what triggers this extraordinary rage.
And throughout history one factor stands out
above all else: the occupation of Muslim land by non-Muslim forces.
The Soviet Union learned this difficult lesson
following its invasion and occupation of Afghanistan in the late 1970s.
The Russians learned it again when they occupied
Chechnya in the 1990s.
Israel's occupation of the West Bank and Gaza
after the 1967 Six Day War and its military interventions in Lebanon
triggered similar reactions, as did the U.S.
military presence in Lebanon in the early 1980s. Indeed, it's fair to say
that
Israel's very existence - a non-Islamic state in
land claimed by the Muslims - is part of the same pattern, as is the U.S.
occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan.
There is much the United States could do to defuse
the problem, and a good place to start
would be by removing land-based U.S. forces from
the Persian Gulf.
But this president can't steal enough money in peace time.
He needs a war so he can claim, "Bookkeeping
is impossible with bullets flying,"
plus the thousands of dead soldiers gives him the excuse to scream,
"You're
not with the troops,"
if somebody asks where the missing trillions of dollars have gone.
