Impeachment & the Constitution
  by Stephen Crockett

 consortiumnews.com

 Excerpt:
The United States has been in a prolonged Constitutional crisis since the Supreme Court showed
it had been corrupted by partisan politics when the Bush vs. Gore ruling was issued in December 2000.

The Bush Administration began by Republican politicians thumbing their noses at the rule of law.
The past seven years have been an unending assault on Constitutional government, American
political traditions and personal freedom.

It is time to place impeachment fully on the table for the top members of the Bush White House and Cabinet.

The appointment of Attorney General Gonzales should never have been approved by the Senate.
His record of distorting the truth in order to protect the political career of George W. Bush is the
only real qualification he had when nominated. It was the reason he was appointed

Subject: Tillman's death

Bart,

Just a thought, but considering their recruitment poster-boy was poised to do a 180 and possibly go public
with his disagreement with US policy concerning Iraq, is it really so far-fetched that someone possibly
decided it was better to try to make him a dead hero than let him speak his mind?

Would evil men kill ?

Yes, they would.

whether or not Gonzales has the confidence of the president - and he clearly does.'"

Fascist dogs like Reagan and Bush intentionally crash the economy so their billionaire friends can
pick up some now-cheap real estate and purchase once-profitable businesses for pennies on the dollar.

Also, workers keep their mouth shut and forget about asking for a raise when times are tough.

The super-rich can't make as much money in a peacetime, booming economy, but they love the bargains
that come after the Fascist dogs get into power and spook the market with talks about tax cuts for the
super-wealthy. Once the tax cuts take effect, the debt dries up the lending markets.

Just try to get a mortage right now and you'll see what I mean.

No wonder nobody will bet on Bush's Amerikkka.

Subject: WPE magnets at hit at Monterey Pop!

Hey Bart -
The magnets arrived in time for the festival - thanks for that!

The Summer67 concert in Monterey over the weekend was a real hoot!
Sixty-five year old baby-boomers in tye dye swaying in rhythm as Barry McGuire
sang "Eve of Destruction" and Ray Manzarek raised the rafters with his keyboards.

And the WPE was the HIT of the music festival.
We displayed them prominently and people were pointing at them as they walked by
with various snide comments.  We even had a few former conservatives say, "If I knew then
what I know now I never would have voted for that SOB.  He's ruined our country."

Thanks for carrying the banner high, Bart!

The Dead-Ender Right
and the Bridge They're Building to the 1920s

 talkingpointsmemo.com

 Excerpt:
As the war for faux-democracy looks more and more like a debacle, the lure of authoritarianism
at home becomes greater and greater for the war's dead-end defenders. And as redeployment
looks more and more likely, they have to keep raising the stakes on the consequences of doing so.
Apparently our whole future, our honor, destiny, certainly our safety from the Iraqi insurgents who
will restart the insurgency in the US -- all of this is in the balance. The stakes must keep rising
because that is, paradoxically, the only way for them to avoid taking responsibility for their failures.
And cowardice that militant, in a faction within the body politic, is dangerous for the rest of us.

Subject: Why did they murder Tillman?

Why did they murder Tillman?  That's pretty easy to answer.
Apparently just because Tillman was a patriot didn't mean that he was a neo-Nazi like the Bushies believed.
He was actually way more liberal than you are.  Hard to believe, isn't it, that one of us lefties would strap on
a gun and go fight for America.  Only patriots like Cheney and Bush would do something like that.

From his friends and family we're hearing that he regularly spoke out against Bush, encouraged other soldiers
to vote for Kerry in 2004, said that the Iraq war was illegal and the the Bush admin was an illegal presidency.
He was very intellectual, and a very good writer, and articulate as hell.  He was a natual leader.  He also had
an appointment to visit with Noam Chomsky when he returned home.  The big problem for the neo-cons is
that he was due to come home soon.

Now consider that the Bushies sent him to war touting him as an American patriot and a model for all citizens.
What would he have written, said, done when he got home and Bush's supporters are equal in number with
the "Free Charlie Manson" crowd.  Red Staters loved Tillman like he was their own son, because he had
earned their respect, and Pat Tillman was about to come home with the ability to speak for himself.

War, chaos and Bush's faith

 Link

 Excerpt:
In the last few weeks, as the dreadful consequences of Bush's "war on terror" continue to unfold in
Pakistan, Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon and Palestine, a disturbing thought is rising to the surface:
There may be no way to clean up the mess he has made.

Ironically, this is the very argument that Bush and his supporters are now using to justify keeping U.S. troops
in Iraq indefinitely -- or at least onto the next president's watch. They insist that disaster looms, and that only
the blood of American troops, infused into a slow-drip I.V., can keep Iraq and the entire region from dying.
Bush understands that there only two things that can save his legacy: either victory, or a worst-case scenario
in which all of his threats about the all-powerful Islamo-fascist menace come true.

Lieberman attacks

 Link

 Excerpt:
Lieberman, the Democrats' 2000 vice presidential nominee, insists he is not actively considering joining
the Party of Fascist Dogs.  But he is keeping that possibility wide open as his disenchantment grows with
Democratic leaders. The main sticking points are their attempts to end the war in Iraq and their hesitation
to take a harder line against Iran.

"I think either [Democrats] are, in my opinion, respectfully, naïve in thinking we can somehow defeat this
enemy with talk, or they're simply hesitant to use American power, including military power," Lieberman saidl.
"There is a very strong group within the party that doesn't take the threat of Islamist terrorism seriously enough."

"A War We Just Might Win?"

Subject: obscene Army enlistment bonuses

Bart, I continue to be amazed when I see that some branches of the service are still meeting their recruiting goals.
These insane bonuses, along with the lowered standards, are the reasons, of course.

You are absolutely right about the hypothetical young couple.  For people without much hope for the future,
the money is worth the risk of the body bag, or the loss of a few limbs.   Sad.
 Nancy, the Cub fan

How in the world will we ever pay for this war?
Tens of thousands of amputees have to be cared for,
tens of thousands of brain injuries  have to be cared for,
the PTSD injuries have to be dealt with and cared for,
then there's the $40,000 given to every grunt who can sign his name,
plus we need to re-build the entire ground war machine - and on it goes.

...not to mention the trillion dollars the war has already cost us.

Sen Stevens caught in ethics snare
"The Internet is not a big truck, it's a series of tubes!"

 Link

 Excerpt:
Justice Department officials investigating Sen. Ted Stevens are examining whether federal funds he steered
to an Alaska wildlife research center may have enriched a former aide, say officials familiar with the probe.

The FBI on Monday raided Stevens' home in Girdwood, Alaska, in connection with that grand jury probe,
which is focused on Stevens' dealings with oil field services contractor Bill Allen.  Last year, FBI raids on the
offices of several Alaska lawmakers included Stevens' son, former Alaska Senate President Ben Stevens.

So, the whole family is crooked?

If you watch Jon Stewart, you've seen him run the clip of Stevens screaming, "No!"
The question this crooked bastard was answering is, "Can we use some of that money
you earmarked for the 'Bridge to Nowhere" to help the drowning people in New Orleans?"

Gonzales the Stooge

 baltimoresun

 Excerpt:
A politically weakened, lame duck president may not be able to bring competing forces together to shape
new policies or lasting achievements, but he can stubbornly protect a stooge of an attorney general almost indefinitely.

If consequences to his party are not a concern - nor the morale of a Justice Department widely viewed as
dysfunctional - Bush's refusal to fire the incompetent and crooked Gonzales serves Bush by drawing attention
away from his own shortcomings.

Ideally, Senate Republicans, who have much to lose by this tawdry spectacle dragging out further, will prevail
upon Gonzales, Bush or both to clear the way so the post of top law enforcement officer can be filled with someone
who commands the nation's respect - instead of a political flunky concerned only with shielding his patron.rmy

Subject: Zappa plays Zappa

There is no bigger fan of FZ than me.
My daughter bought me tickets for last year's Zappa Plays Zappa show in Portland, OR.
The show was on December 21, Frank's birthday.  The musicians were fantastic, every bit as good
as Frank's best bands.  The only downside was that the show was in an old ballroom downtown
where the only seats were in the balcony.

We had standing room tickets and it's been a LONG while since I was forced to stand for four hours
(yes, the show was that long; it was being videotaped for an upcoming DVD).  I started to fade toward
the end and actually had to leave during the last song, before I collapsed.  I damn near did in the lobby anyway,
but I managed to just barely keep from falling down.

Anyway, yes, it's a fantastic show and if it comes anywhere near you later this year, you really should go.

Subject: fighting back

Bart, you published,

"Whenever you read 'profit,' think 'Republican' nine times out of ten."
>    -- Dookie The Webmaster, mocking Rush,   dubyaD40.com

When will we Dems get a clue on how to fight? This quote is a perfect example
of our inability to grasp how to win against the religiously insane neo-con thugs.

There is nothing wrong with "profit". I want to make a profit!  Any casual reader would read this quote
and think that this person and Democrats as a whole are against turning an honest profit. The author probably
means;  "Whenever you read "illegal profits"...But he is lazy and probably still has some sense of fighting fairly.

Christ, we are in a STREET FIGHT and in a street fight you must use whatever means necessary to win
as soon as possible because your opponent WILL. The very fact the person started a street fight is proof
that they are not about to listen to reason. You go for the eyes, the testicles, and the throat until your
opponent is seriously hurt to put that person DOWN.

Thanks,
 Wesley

Wesley, maybe you missed what he was replying to. Rush was mocking the non-profits.
Dookie was saying you'd never  see a Republican working to help someone with less.

Cheney: It's a witch hunt

Cheney Tuesday dismissed congressional investigations into the firings of nine U.S. attorneys as "a bit of a witch hunt."
"First of all, there's no charge," Cheney said. "What's the allegation of wrongdoing here? Frankly, there isn't any."

that would suggest there was any wrongdoing of any kind," Cheney told CNN's Larry King."

Is There a GOP Gene for Lying?

 wehateclintons.com

 Excerpt:
History will determine Bush's ultimate comeuppance. A man this unaware, an Alfred E.Neuman caricature,
is impervious to self-reflection, embarrassment, or introspection. He will vacate the Oval Office with the GOP
base in shambles, his reputation tarnished in every quarter save for the delusional salons at Fox News and
Weekly Standard. He will leave Washington with his two terriers, Barney and Miss Beazley, and dutiful wife
Pickles by his side. Pretty much everyone else will be busy that day. Those who filled their bellies with Dubya's
grape Kool-aid will be feeling queasy and faint for a long time. It's up to the Democrats to prolong their agony
and political discomfort.

Democrats insist on playing by the rules, even when the other aside doesn't.
