Bush Gets a Spying Blank Check
  by Robert Parry

 consortiumnews.com

 Excerpt:
Eager for recess, Congress handed Bush another blank check on executive power, letting him spy
on a vast number of people, including Americans, if they are physically outside the United States.

The "Protect America Act of 2007" sets the standard for a surveillance order - up to one year
- as simply that it be "directed at a person reasonably believed to be located outside the United States."

The bill's language doesn't limit the surveillance to "terrorists" or "enemy combatants" - indeed
those words are not mentioned in the legislation.

Nor does the bill specify what happens to a one-year surveillance order against a target if the person
then enters - or returns - to the United States. The vaguely worded act gives broad discretion to
Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell.

 Excerpt:
As George Bush defended his Iraq policies last month, he reminded us yet again of the menace
Iran supposedly poses: it is "threatening to wipe Israel off the map."

This myth has been endlessly recycled since a translating error  was made of a speech Ahmadinejad

Up to GOP to show Bush the way out
Why didn't I think of that?

 .....
"Can't nobody show me nuthin'"

 philly.com

 Excerpt:
On Aug. 7, 1974, Sen. Hugh Scott of Pennsylvania went to the White House with two other
Republicans to tell Nixon his position was hopeless. Two days later, Nixon resigned.

The time has come for another Hugh Scott moment.

Republicans must say: "Mr. President, as the polls show, the American public no longer believes in the Iraq war.
Our generals say the solution must be political, and our goal is to hand over security to Iraqis. Yet the public can see
that the Iraqi government is divided by sect and ethnicity, as are Iraqi security forces. If Iraqis can't get together,
voters ask, how can our military ever hand it over?"

The Democrats don't have the balls to stand up to Bush - but they have a rosey future.
Washington insiders are talking about a 10-20 year decline for the GOP because of Bush,
so it's in their best interest to fire the Giggling Murderer and tell America they're ashamed of him.

That way, they might only lose 20 and 90 seats.

Bush supporters match his profile

 Link

 Excerpt:
To see the type of person who still backs him, Bush need only look in the mirror.

The president fits the composite of today's Bush supporter: a conservative, white,
Republican man, an evangelical Christian who goes to church regularly.

Hammered by bad news in Iraq, congressional investigations and recent failed domestic initiatives,
Bush's job approval rating has spiraled to record lows for his presidency. Two-thirds of Republicans
and about one-third of independents still support him, but virtually no Democrats.

Bush says he leads and is not led by popular opinion.
Yet the lower his polls go, the harder it is for him to push his agenda.

Subject: Congress legalizes every crime Bush commits

Every time Bush breaks the law Congress legalizes what he does.

When Bush illegally tapped our phones Congress passed a law suspending the 4th Amendment.
When Bush set up secret prison torture camps Congress legalized secret prison torture camps.

I just wish Bush would start smoking pot and visit a hooker
so congress would legalize marijuana and prostitution.

he might not have the urge to kill so many people.

The "understanding" is that Rethuglicans OWN the state of Florida - the statehouse (both house & senate),
the Gov's mansion, all the muckety-muck  bureaucratic SOBs in high offices (uhh.. maybe the Treasurer and
a few other officials are Dems?) - and they can STEAL VOTES, elections, and taxpayer funds carte-blanche,
with NO OVERSIGHT from the Florida WHORE newspapers, except when a local official gets caught red handed.
(A Palm Beach County Commissioner just got sent to prison for his efforts to get a fat check for his rural property

Bart,

I just found this short video that tell the story of Philip Zelikow.
He is the man who created the phoney 911 report that covers up the truth about it being an inside job.

Please watch this video because everyone needs to know who this monster is and we need to stop
this absurd obsession with Bin Laden.  He is one of the main players in the Bush administration
who is deeply involved in the 911 attacks.  This is most important.

GOP Stealing Cali votes now
VOTESCAM and the Democrats don't even care?

 newyorker.com

 Excerpt:
Two weeks ago, s Republican lawyer quietly filed a ballot initiative that would end the practice of
granting all fifty-five of California's electoral votes to the statewide winner. Instead, it would award two
of them to the statewide winner and the rest, one by one, to the winner in each congressional district.

Nineteen of the fifty-three districts are represented by Republicans, but Bush carried twenty-two
districts in 2004. The bottom line is that the initiative, if passed, would spot the Republican ticket
something in the neighborhood of twenty electoral votes - votes that it wouldn't get under the rules
prevailing in every other sizable state in the Union.ast

They can't win unless they cheat.
Will the Democrats watch them do it three presidents in a row?

Brother hammerer!   I have enjoyed your site for quite some time .
You are one of the best when it comes to fearlessness ....

Objection!

I feel that Hillary is Rupert's choice for the election ..and that design of the interminably long 'election '
season is his doing ...in cahoots with both parties.....but i feel that he and hillary have cut some sort of deal ....

Hillary, regardless of (any positive) you can ascribe to her candidacy, is damaged goods.

We call that a "gratuitous assertion," meaning a charge with no foundation.

I feel personally that she is Karl Rove's choice for a devastating attack, if she is nominated,
as she has some very REAL issues in her past .....I'm not talking about made up wingnut crap either.
I believe you live in close enough proximity to Arkansas, to comprehend her past

Yeah, we locals know about the "double tap" Hillary does to the back of the head.

Hillary Clinton is the kiss of death for the democratic party's dream of winning back the presidency
 Rob the tubthumper in Mass.

So, you're thinking we need someone with a clean past, someone they can't slander?
I suggest Gore and Kerry would be perfect for the job.

I mean, what lies could they make up about those two?

Barry Bonds

Barry Bonds hits 756th career home run, surpassing Hank Aaron's all-time record.

I'm going to say it again.
If the ball goes over the fence, it's a Home Run.

If ten pins fall in bowling, it's a strike.
If you sink the 9-ball, you get paid.

If you drop the ball in the endzone, it's a touchdown.
If the ball falls in the cup, the putt counts, even if it's Eldrick.
If there's no scientific test that proves Bonds cheated, then he's the champ.

I'm not a doctor, (Surprising) but why is Lance Armstong innocent but Barry's guilty?
Could the answer be - race?

Don't give me, "Oh, please, everyone knows Bonds is a Roid Ranger!"
Fine - Got science?

America crumbles under GOP rule

  suntimes.com

 Excerpt:
A 40-year-old bridge collapses in Minneapolis. Levees give way in New Orleans. An 83-year-old
steam pipe produces an eruption that terrorizes Manhattan. As our infrastructure literally crumbles
beneath our feet, America is building the largest embassy compound in the world in Iraq -- an area
larger than the Pentagon -- to manage a war now estimated to cost $1 trillion.

What happened at both ends of the Mississippi and is happening in cities across the country are tragedies,
but they aren't random accidents. They are the direct price of the right wing in power. Scornful of government,
intent on cutting taxes and slashing spending, they systematically have shorted public investment in our basic
infrastructure -- in bridges and roads, in rail lines and air systems, in parks and schools.

I figured out something about republicans that I haven't heard yet.
Their biggest problem is they don't think about tomorrow.

That's why they don't care about pollution or global warming.
They'll be dead in 50 years, so why worry?

Same for the infrastructure - a few bridges and levees will fail now,
but the rest won';t fail until they're gone or at least till Bush is out of power.

Same for the war - screw the cost - we won't have to pay it.
Barb and Jenna are super-rich and set-up for a lifetime of luxury already,
why should Bush worry about handing down the cost of the war to his grandkids?

But Democrats know there's a tomorrow, so they insist we go to the dentist today.
If only the Democrats had the brains of an Okie, they could spell this out for the voters.

Subject: Just Say "No" (to DemocRATS)

Well, the Democratic Party as just defined itself as "not-quite"  NeoCon Republican.
I guess they realy *do* want to loose the 2008  Elections.

Only Kucinich will get any donations from me.
At this point how can it hurt to vote for an alternative party?
 Dave in Philadelphia

Dave, I feel your pain.
Nobody called them "pink tutus" quicker than me - but - what if they're right this time?

In this baseball game, the Democrats have their foot firmly on second base.
As long as they don't take their foot off second base, they can't be tagged out.
If they don't get tagged out, they'll win super-big in 2008.

If they do the "right thing" and take their foot off the base and get tagged out
people like you and me might end up screaming at them for blowing it once again!!

Note: This isn't a position I'm married to, but it's my position until I see some rebuttal.

Question: Would you risk "certain" victory (with a veto-proof Congress) to make Bush grovel now?

The Case of the Missing Arms

"Thank you, Meester Boosh..."

Wait, that's the wrong graphic.

 Whore Post

 Excerpt:
Bookkeeping deficiencies allowed thousands of weapons issued to Iraqi security forces
in 2004 and 2005 to then go missing, Gen. David Petraeus said yesterday.

"Some percentage" of weapons the U.S. military provided to the Iraqi army and Iraqi police units
were not tracked by serial number because there were no procedures to track them.

From a practical standpoint, Petraeus added, it was more important to get the weapons to the Iraqis
as they started to enter the fight against a strong insurgency than it was to keep meticulous records.

Bullshit!

Bush sold those weapons to both sides to keep the bloody quagnire going longer.

They can't make any money at peace - they need chaos so nobody asks why Iraq's oil wells STILL
don't have any meters on them - allowing Bush to steal 3-5M Barrels a day.

Today's oil price is $73, so Bush will steal between $219M and $365M today,
and he will steal between $219M and $365M again tomorrow!

Why do you think they fabricated that story about Saddam's WMDs?

Why can't GOP see it - Why can't Dems say it?

All that talk about "repairing the infrastructure" last night in the Chicago Demo debate,
why didn't a Democrat say, "Repairing the infrastructure is the same as having a strong defense?"

It doesn't matter if you die in the WTC or some broken bridge in Minnesota - you're still f-ing dead.
The logical question is, "Which is more likely? An old bridge crumbling or an Al Qaeda attack?"

Bush has spent or stolen more than a trillion dollars so far. A trillion dollars would give us universal
health care and a cure for cancer, but the Bush bastards invested in guns instead of butter.

I'm all for a strong defense, but do I give a fuck about defense if I can't afford health care?
Again - the logical question is, "Which is more likely? Getting cancer or Al Qaeda?"

<Bart does a shot>

I think the Democrats will win in 2008.
I think the Democrats might even win if they succeed in stabbing Hillary in the back.
I think the Democrats might win if they stab Hillary and fail to list the goddamn facts,
but why take the chance?

Subject: re: Whore ABC loves Bush's war

Bart!

When Ron Paul got his uproarious applause for saying,
"Bring the troops home now. There was never a reason for us to go to war in Iraq..."
Romney, with his smug, entitled smile blurted out, "Did he FORGET about 9-11?"
Like he was delivering some huge applause line.

That "9-11" line seems to paralyze all Republicans.
It's like, "Dude, I need to have sex with with your wife!"
And the husband says, "What?"

And the right-winger says, "Did you FORGET about 9-11?" and the husband says,
"Oh OK, but please send her back when you're done having sex with her."

Obviously, they're trying to resurrect the notion that 9-11 was orchestrated by Saddam.
These people are scary. I have never been more fearful for our country's future.

Iraq pumped 3.5M barrels daily before Bush invaded

Bush is stealing $220,000,000 every day.

No wonder they were so eager to start a war,

It's the biggest theft in Earth's history.

Exxon made $10B profit in 90 days
$100M a day - all profit - because Bush started a fake war

Some people celebrate Bush's bloody oil war...

Some don't.

We lost  10 more since last issue.

What got 3,680 soldiers killed?

How much did BIG OIL make yesterday?
Exxon makes $108M - every day

Bush can live with that,
because Iraq's oil wells have no meters
and his front company is moving to Dubai.

 $100M a day,
$200M a day,
$300M a day - where's that money going?

Bush has killed more Americans than Osama.

Katrina Victims Trapped

 Link

 Excerpt:
"It was bad enough when Katrina chased Carrie Lewis out of her assisted-living home in New Orleans.
Now she fears the rest of her life may be spent in the isolation of a federally sponsored trailer park.

Because Katrina destroyed so much affordable housing, Lewis and thousands of others displaced
- mainly the poor, elderly and infirm - have nowhere else to go.

"I want to go home," said Lewis, 79, who now lives in the Renaissance Village trailer park.
'They don't have places for old people in New Orleans yet. What am I supposed to do?
I don't want to die in a little trailer in the middle of a field somewhere.'"
