Obama: Clinton
welcome to stay in race
Link
Excerpt:
Barack Obama on Saturday said Hillary Clinton
can stay in the nominating race as long as she wants
and expressed confidence that Democrats will
coalesce around the winner despite the often bitter contest.
"Senator Clinton can run as long as she wants.
Her name is on the ballot and she is a fierce and formidable
competitor," said Obama, adding that the split
by the nominating contest "is somewhat overstated."
Clinton on Friday vowed to stay in the White House
race, rejecting mounting pressure from some losers like
Patrick Leahy (D-Rubber Stamp) to bow out and
let the party focus on defeating McCain.
Clinton trails in delegates, but she says that
all Democrats should get a chance to vote.
Hillary repeated her call to find a way to count
votes from Michigan and Florida,
which broke party rules by moving up the dates
of their contests, disqualifying the results.
Holding out an olive branch to her supporters,
Obama said Clinton "obviously believes that she would
make the best president and I think that she
should be able to compete and her supporters should be
able to support her for as long as they are willing
or able."
That was a nice, classy thing for Obama to do.
Or maybe it's just smart politics, figuring he's probably going to
win so why alienate
people he's going to need to kick Grandpa McCain's
ass.
But doesn't Howard Dean need to answer for Florida and Michigan?
Shouldn't he have drawn starker lines for them to ensure they'd comply?
Dean did us a lot of good in the '06 elections,
but he dropped the ball this time and his mistake gave Hillary this
opening.

Pure horseshit.
The super-delegates want to vote for the winner.
If they vote against Her and she wins, they won't get jobs.
It's called "politics."
But no, saying "that's politics" doesn't paint the Clintons in a dark-enough
light,
so they create this Tony Soprano horseshit

Subject: Randi Rhodes in San
Fran
Hey Bart,
I know a lot of the people at this local Progressive
radio staion here in San Fran.
Many of them told me on the QT they were tired
of all the rants against Hillary on AAR.
Randi came to SF for a meet and greet last Saturday
3/22.
There were probably 500 people or so in the crowd.
First Randi goes off on Ferraro,
then starts her rant against Hillary calling
her a "fucking whore" over and over again.
If you listen to the crowd there is a lot of
boiseterous cheering but it's markedly lessened
during this part of the rant. Many of us
were booing that part but the mikes didn't catch it.
I spoke with a lot of people in attendance who
told me they wished she'd cool her jets.
Ferraro starts at 3:30 minutes
Hillary starts at 6:00 minutes
The radio people were cool - talking about how
we're going to get a Dem in
the White House and not expressing a preference
between Obama or Clinton.
It was Randi who was over the top.
Here's
the link:
For Randi's sake, I hope Hillary doesn't win.
I don't think Randi could survive four years
of constant Democrat-bashing.

Hillary's
team crosses the line
by Joe Conason
Link
Excerpt:
Over the past few months, the emotional trajectory
of the Democratic presidential primary has dropped
precipitously, from inspiring to enervating,
turning into a chronicle of petty sniping and amplified nastiness
that will harm the party, the nation and the
eventual nominee. Neither side is innocent of driving the discourse
downward -- and everyone observing the process
knows that both sides have crossed lines of decency and
decorum, whether by accident or design.
But Hillary Clinton's campaign crossed a symbolic
boundary this week when [they dispatched] a pair of articles
from the American Spectator and World Net Daily
in an attack on Merrill "Tony" McPeak, the retired Air Force
general and chief of staff who now serves as
one of Obama's principal military advisors.
...the Clinton campaign went too far in responding.
When it starts circulating material from the same ultra-right
rags that have routinely accused the Clintons
of felonies and treason, its behavior reeks of cynicism.
I think I agree.
If I had been in the room, I would have argued against that.

Subject: Hillary and Scaife
On liberal blogs, this meeting is seen as further
evidence of Hillary's duplicity and shameless ambition.
Once you said, "On liberal blogs," ...I knew where
this was going.
I wonder how many "liberals" would walk barefoot
over broken glass to pie Hillary?
I'd bet my last dollar that Hillary has zero respect
or fondness for the horrible man who caused her
family so much distress. If she had refused
to sit down with Scaife, kos and co. would be gleefully
reporting that she is nothing but a vindictive/emotional
female who shouldn't be answering the phone at 3 am.
Of course.
Once that decision to hate the Clintons is made,
all logic disappears.
We've seen it happen again
and again.
The picture of Hillary and Scaife reminded me
of the time Bill went out of his way to speak to
Rush Limbaugh in a restaurant(as reported by
Mr. Hate himself.) Or the time a reporter asked
the newly-elected Senator Clinton about nasty
things Trent Lott was saying about her-she smiled
and said she was "looking forward "to working
with him.
The result? In all of these instances, the
Clintons appear magnanimous, courtly and impervious
to petty attacks, while their adversaries seem
warty and repugnant by comparison.
Ann in Havertown
Recently I told the story of Bill O'Reilly in the receiving line at
a 90's White House dinner.
He was worried what Bill's reaction to him would be, but to his amazement,
Bill smiled
and shook his hand and said, "I really enjoy
watching your show."
Why would the Clintons try to win over their enemies?

Excerpt:

year as a political consultant to Joseph Bruno,
the state senate majority leader and Mr Spitzer's
main rival in the New York legislature.
He was forced to resign after he allegedly left
an abusive telephone message for Spitzer's father.
Stone accused Bernard Spitzer, a multimillionaire
property developer, of secretly financing
his son's political campaigns. Private investigators
traced the call to Stone's New York flat.
A voice that appeared to be Stone's said: "This
is a message for Bernard Spitzer. You will be
subpoenaed to testify before the Senate committee

I was more than saddened to see Hillary sit down

this week.
Dude, it's a newspaper in a state she's trying
to win.
For the life of me, why she didn't slap him or
kick him in the nuts like he deserves
for all of the lies and other publications he
funded that hounded the Clintons is beyond me.
Giving him legitimacy was a wrong I can't forgive.
If she wins the nomination I'll still vote for
her, but this really turned me off of her.
There's nothing that can convince me that this
was a good move.
I want to see her fight the Rethuglicans not
cozy up to them.
Anyways just my two cents.
Greg in Vacaville
Some might say she showed guts in facing him.
Hillary is a big girl and she can take care of herself.
If she meets with or does business with Scaife or Murdoch,
they deal with her at their own peril. For al, we know,
Scaife and Murdoch lost cred with the Nazi right for meeting with her.
Trust me, she hasn't forgotten anything.

Katrina
victims may have to repay money
Bad things happen when the GOP is in charge
Link
Excerpt:
Imagine that your home was reduced to mold and
wood framing by Katrina. Desperate for money
to rebuild, you engage in a frustrating bureaucratic
process, and after months of living in a government
trailer tainted with formaldehyde you finally
win a federal grant.
Then a collector calls with the staggering news
that you have to pay back thousands of dollars.
Thousands of Katrina victims may be in that situation.
A private contractor under investigation for the
compensation it received to run the Road Home
grant program for Katrina victims says that in
the rush to deliver aid to homeowners, some people
got too much. Now it wants to hire a separate
company to collect millions in grant overpayments.
The contractor, ICF International of Fairfax,
Va., revealed the extent of the overpayments when it
issued a March 11 request for bids from companies
willing to handle "approximately 1,000 to 5,000
cases that will necessitate collection effort."

Army says:
Don't help injured vets
Link
(scroll)
Excerpt:
If you're a disabled soldier returning from Iraq
or Afghanistan and need a hand filling out
the paperwork for your benefits, don't bother
asking the Department of Veteran Affairs.
They won't help.
That's because last year Army officials instructed
representatives from the VA at Fort Drum
not to help veterans with their disability paperwork
because there was a "conflict of interest."
Soldiers that get help from the VA tend to get
higher disability ratings...which means that the
government owes them more money. And within the
Bush administration's corporate worldview,
that just doesn't work. After all, there are
contractors to pay. Tell the Secretary of the Army
Geren that this is not acceptable and sign our
petition today.
Secretary Geren: Disabled soldiers should get
all the help they need.
Funny, it wasn't a "conflict of interest" for
these soldiers to lose eyes and limbs,
so why is there some conflict after they follow
orders and run into battle?
Just another "Screw you" to the soldiers from
the Bush bastards.
Why does anyone enlist to fight for these sons of bitches?

Hillary,
reassessed
by Richard M. Scaife
Link
Excerpt:
Hillary walked into a Pittsburgh Tribune-Review conference room last
Tuesday
to meet with some of the newspaper's editors
and reporters and declared,
"It was so counterintuitive, I just thought it
would be fun to do."
The room erupted in laughter.
Her remark defused what could have been a confrontational
meeting.
The very morning that she came to the Trib, our
editorial page raised questions
about her campaign and criticized her on several
other scores.
Reading that, a lesser politician -- one less
self-assured, less informed on
domestic and foreign issues, less confident of
her positions -- might well have
canceled the interview right then and there.
Walking into our conference room, not knowing
what to expect (or even, perhaps,
expecting the worst), took courage and confidence.
Not many politicians have
political or personal courage today, so it was
refreshing to see her exhibit both.
Why would the Clintons try to win over their enemies?

Hillary's side are what is her greatest weakness now...
She's fighting tooth and nail for this thing,

We could settle this with an old-fashioned fist fight.
Just Hillary and Barack in a steel cage - and no rules.

And to make it fair, maybe Hillary should be forced to stay up all night
the night before,
then made to eat a Quaylude an hour before the fight ...and have a

Subject: Telling Truth Early
One of our top goals at Consortiumnews.com - and
what I've tried to do throughout my three-decade
career in national journalism - is to give readers
important information that they haven't encountered
elsewhere, what you might call telling truth
early.
There is always a danger in doing this,
because many people tend to reject what they haven't heard before.
Sometimes, the information is unwelcome
because it goes against a preconception
or it disrupts a favored point of view.
It might cause discomfort or anger.

I'm so old, I remember when Consortiumnews.com
was about facts.
When you took a shine to Obama, you traded professional
ethics for cheerleading.
It became your personal crusade to discredit
the Democratic front-runner.
You began reading Hillary's mind, then you bravely
clued us in to her real agenda.
Sure, we all have our biases, but you took mind-reading
to a new level.
But then, you have the courage to face
the mind-reading danger.
If you want to show us courage - say something
positive about Hillary Clinton.
