The Myth of a Toss-up Election
They want you to think it's close

 Link

 Excerpt:
"Too close to call." "Within the margin of error." "A statistical dead heat." If you've been following election news,
you're probably familiar with these phrases. Media commentary on the presidential horserace, reflecting the results
of a series of new national polls, has strained to make a case for a hotly contested election that is essentially up for grabs...

While no election outcome is guaranteed and McCain's prospects could improve, virtually all of the evidence that
we have reviewed - historical patterns, structural features of this election cycle, and national and state polls conducted
over the last several months - points to a comfortable Obama/Democratic party victory in November. Trumpeting this
race as a toss-up, almost certain to produce another nail-biter finish, distorts the evidence and does a disservice to
readers and viewers who rely upon such punditry.

But what about the pre-election terrorist attack Cheney's planning for New York?

There is a sick truth that we need to face - the Bush bastards have more power than any thugs in history
and thugs do not surrender umlimited power because some calendar says they should.

Subject: Time Horizons

Bush is now talking about a "time horizon" for bringing the troops home from Iraq.
Not to be confused with a timetable like Obama has been saying because Obama
can't be allowed to say, "I told you so!" A time horizon is something else.

I'm not sure exactly what the difference is but the words time and horizon seem to at least
contemplate and end to the war. Maybe Bush is thinking about his legacy and he finally gets it.

It makes you wonder if McCain is going to adopt Bush's "time horizon" or if he's going to
stick with his 100 year plan. After all, when it comes to understanding how long a century is,
no one will dispute that McCain is more qualified than Obama.

Obama Raises $50M this Quarter

 Link

 Excerpt:
Good news for Democrats; it seems the small dollar donor crowd is intensely focused on winning back
the Presidency.  Even with the organizing around FISA, Obama took in a remarkable money haul from
small dollar and large dollar donors.  I'd like to see the breakdown of large to small, but my guess is that
most of the large dollar donations went to the DNC, which took in $22M and can legally accept donations
about ten times the size of a Federal campaign.

 Subject: Bartcop UNBLOCKED from Army!!!

Bart - in the "you ain't gonna believe this shit" category your website is now ALLOWED at our installation.
I checked Monday - after you posted Friday.  Not sure if there is a "cause and effect" but - it is now allowed.
I didn't see MPs at my office this morning so not sure if they saw the posting.

As with the other note you posted we would get a "website blocked - political content" flag when I tried
to access Bartcop.com from the office - during my lunch break of course :)

The Army has the DOIM (Director of Information Management) that plays combination "Fun Police" and
"Couth-Control Officer" that blocks sites.  They have sniffer filters for Porn and Key-Word Search as well.
The DOIM controls the "Verticle and Horizontal" as it were.  To paraphrase Robin Williams "they are in more
dire need of a blowjob than any white men in history."

All you would need to do is send a standard FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) memo to DoD or individual
installations asking their policy or if you are blocked - they MUST reply within 20 days - It's the law.
But we know how the present Admin respects the laws.
Keep swinging the hammer.

PS - call me something different if you post - I don't need a one-way ticket to GITMO  :)

Lift the Cuba embargo
 by Joe Conason

 Link

 Excerpt:
Listening to the mouthpieces of the oil industry on TV -- as well as in the Bush White House -- one gets
the impression that we must start drilling in America's coastal waters immediately. If only we unleash the
oilmen to explore and exploit, then the price of gasoline will start to fall, the scheming petroleum cartel
will collapse, and the United States will be independent once again. And if we don't unleash the oilmen,
then the Chinese communists will siphon off all the oil from the coast of Cuba before we can even launch
a rowboat into the Caribbean.

None of that is true, of course. Producing oil from new offshore wells requires decades, and even when
those resources come online they will have little impact on world prices, according to the government's
own studies. Fouling our shores with clots of tar will bring us no closer to freedom from foreign oil in
the near, medium or long term.

And that tale about the Chinese drilling off Cuba is a hoax designed to gull the public into supporting the
repeal of laws that restrict offshore drilling. But the phony Cuban oil story raises a pertinent question.
If we really want to free ourselves from the death grip of the oil-exporting countries, maybe we should
lift the embargo on trade and investment in Cuba.

Court: Sixth Amendment Gone, too
We've lost the 4th and 6th Amendments in 30 days

 Link

 Excerpt:
The Bush bastards have has been a waging a fierce battle for the power to lock people up indefinitely
simply on the president's say-so. It scored a disturbing victory last week when a federal appeals court
ruled that it could continue to detain Ali al-Marri, who has been held for more than five years as an
enemy combatant. The decision gives the president sweeping power to deprive anyone - citizens and
noncitizens - of their freedom. The Supreme Court should reverse this terrible ruling.

Al-Marri, a citizen of Qatar legally residing in the United States, was initially arrested in his home in
Peoria, Illinois, on ordinary criminal charges, then imprisoned by military authorities.

The government, which says he has ties to Al Qaeda, designated him an enemy combatant,
even though it never alleged that he was in an army or carried arms on a battlefield.
He was held on the basis of extremely thin hearsay evidence.he

I wish we could count on Democrats to reverse the destruction of our Constitution.

Soldier in famous photo dead

 Link

 Excerpt:
For most of the past five years, the 31-year-old soldier had writhed in a private hell,
shooting at imaginary enemies and dodging nonexistent roadside bombs, sleeping in
a closet bunker and trying desperately to huff away the "demons" in his head. When his
personal problems became public, efforts were made to help him, but nothing seemed to work.

They found Joseph Dwyer lying on his back, his clothes soiled with urine and feces.
Scattered on the floor around him were dozens of spent cans of Dust-Off,
a refrigerant-based aerosol normally used to clean electrical equipment.

Dwyer told police Lt. Mike Wilson he'd been "huffing" the aerosol.

"Help me, please!" the former Army medic begged Wilson.
"I'm dying. Help me. I can't breathe."

Unable to stand or even sit up, Dwyer was hoisted onto a stretcher.
As paramedics prepared to load him into an ambulance, an officer
noticed Dwyer's eyes had glassed over and were fixed.

A half hour later, he was dead.

They say Bush's insatiable oil greed has destroyed 4125 military families,
but the real number could be ten times that - or even higher.

How many more Joe Dwyers will bring the war home with them?

Subject: Obama at 31% among whites

Obama is doing better among whites than either Gore or Kerry did.
 Jaskelin

 Link

 Excerpt:
So does Barack Obama have a problem with white voters? The answer is a resounding "yes."
And so has every other Democrat in the past forty years. The last Democratic to win whites
was Lyndon Johnson in 1964. Al Gore lost the white vote by 12 points in 2000. John Kerry
lost the white vote by 17 points in 2004.

Black. Female. Accomplished. Attacked.
Why does Michelle have so much to prove?

 Link

 Excerpt:
We've watched with a mixture of pride and trepidation as the wife of the first serious African American
presidential contender has weathered recent campaign travails -- being called unpatriotic for a single
offhand remark, dubbed a black radical because of something she wrote more than 20 years ago and
plastered with the crowning stereotype: "angry black woman." And then being forced to undergo a
politically mandated "makeover" to soften her image and make her more palatable to mainstream America.

Sad to say, but what Obama has undergone, though it's on a national stage and on a much more prominent
scale, is nothing new to professional African American women. We endure this type of labeling all the time.
We're endlessly familiar with the problem Michelle Obama is confronting -- being looked at, as black women,
through a different lens from our white counterparts, who are portrayed as kinder, gentler souls who somehow
deserve to be loved and valued more than we do. So many of us are hoping that Michelle -- as an elegant
and elusive combination of successful career woman, supportive wife and loving mother -- can change that.

RJ dropped in for some shots

My good friend, Bartfest attendee and pillar RJ from San Francisco, dropped
by Tulsa to buy Mrs Bart and me dinner and a few shots of fine tequila.

We had a great visit at Agave's, a place known more for tequila than good food.
We split shots of Patron Anejo, Don Julio 1942 and Herradura Anejo while RJ
told us stories about his travels to Spain, Morocco, Istanbul and Rio De Janero.

He's the first person I've met who actually ran with the bulls in Pamplona
and engaged in that wild and crazy Tomato Festival in Valencia, Spain.

I guess the closest we'll get to that is watching reruns of Brooke Burke's Wild On.

RJ, we had a great time - can't wait to do it again.
Maybe we'll get together again at the LA Whalefest in January?

Subject: Bush sends negotiator - but not to negotiate

Under pressure from conservatives not to cave in and "negotiate with the enemy" but at the
same time trying to avert war, Bush has decided to "compromise" by sending a top diplomat
to a conference with Iran, but with instructions not to engage in diplomacy.

Even though we are sending a negotiator to the negotiations, we're not negotiating.
Bush obviously doesn't want to appear to admit that Obama was right so that McCain
doesn't look like an idiot, but for some reason Bush doesn't want to start or be sucked
into yet another war. (Which is somewhat of a surprise in itself.)

It's going to be interesting to see where Maverick McCain stands now.
Does he admit that Obama was right all along? Does he stick with with
the position that Bush abandoned of "no negotiating with the enemy"?
Or does he take the middle road and send a negotiator not to negotiate?

Iraq pumped 3.5M  barrels daily before Bush invaded
and then they got their 2003 Halliburton upgrade,
their 2004 Halliburton upgrade,
their 2005 Halliburton upgrade,
their 2006 Halliburton upgrade,
their 2007 Halliburton upgrade,
their 2008 Halliburton upgrade

Bush is stealing up to 6 million barrels of oil per day.
Since oil sells for $140 or more per barrel,
Bush is stealing $840,000,000 every day.

No wonder they were so eager to start a war,
It's the biggest theft in Earth's history.

but now...
4,125 brave men and women are gone.

4,125 families have been destroyed
because Bush got greedy and McCain
wants to stay another 100 years?

Why are we there?
Because Iraq's oil wells have NO METERS!

That's almost 1B dollars that
goes missing every day!

Where's that money going?
