"Obama's campaign will no longer object to
independent efforts that hammer McCain,
just as, in their mind, the McCain
campaign has not objected to those efforts targeted at Obama."
-- Political Wire, on Obama reversing
his stance on 527 groups Link
Obama gave McCain control of this race.
Now that he's behind and desperate, he'll allow our side to fight
back?
Is Obama doing anything right?
Regardless of how we got here, what can Obama do now to win?
He can't go back in time and ask Hillary to join the ticket,
so what steps can he take today to stop the bleeding?

Barack,
What Happened?
Link
Excerpt:
There are three reasons for McCain's sudden surge
apart from a successful convention.
(In this regard, I think the effectiveness of
Giuliani's comically savage attack on Obama
have not been fully appreciated.)
First, by not choosing Hillary, Obama lost a
savvy experienced campaigner, who had successfully
wooed the white-working class, cemented the Democratic
woman's vote, and would have hit the
tarmac running, incorporating the entire Clintonian
negative-campaigning mob.
Liar, slut and whore.
If the Clintons have a massive negative campaigning
mob,
why didn't they use it against Obama?
Biden brings no upside; he's not a fresh "change"
face, and is the sort of veteran
that isn't popular this year. While the press
waits for the first Palin's slips, it is just
as likely that Biden will return to form and
out-gaffe her.
But there's a difference between mis-speaking
and not knowing anything about how the world works.

Subject: Olbermann Replaced
Bart ~
I agree that Olbermann and Matthews were way over
the top in their support of Obama
and pillorying of Hillary Clinton during the
primaries, but they weren't stopped THEN
despite the sexism and utter hatred they spouted.
Now that they have defeated the sure winner for
the Dems, and have turned their sights
on McCain, NOW it's time to remove them?
Their rich Republican MSNBC overlords got what
they wanted when Hillary was
"defeated" and now it's time to retire the pair
so that McCain can be victorious.
Let's keep it in perspective. It's not
that they are so biased, it's that they are biased
for the wrong candidate -- their usefulness is
at an end.

Excerpt:
Does Palin think of the war as 'a task that is
from God'? As she put it, "That's what we have to make sure
that we're praying for - that there is a plan
and that that plan is God's plan." That this happens to be precisely
what Osama bin Laden tells his own deluded followers.
Except to notice, as Middle Eastern scholar Juan Cole
points out in Salon, that theocrats commonly
'confuse God's will with their own mortal policies.'
Citing chapter and verse on a broad range of
social issues, he asks, "What is the difference between Palin
and a Muslim fundamentalist ? Lipstick."
But hasn't Alaska's one-time 'Miss Congeniality' a right to believe
anything she likes ? Absolutely. But the rest
of us are not compelled to take her views on Biblical 'prophecy'
more seriously than rival forms of soothsaying,
such as Tarot card reading, crystal ball gazing, or examining
the entrails of sheep. Persons who practice such
rites, whether in the wholesome suburban confines of the
Wasilla Bible Church or a cavern in the tribal
areas of Pakistan are either frauds, fools or both.
It's time the rest of us quit being polite about
it.

"Three States Accused of Illegally Purging
Voter Lists"
http://www.alternet.org/democracy/92695/?page=entire
OK, here's part two of the election fraud. (part
one you already posted, the electronic voting machine debacle).
The illegal Voter purges and disenfranchisement
continue unabated. This happened in the last two elections,
and it is unfathomable as to why the Dem's haven't
stopped it from happening AGAIN!
The next shoe to drop? Part three? One or more
swing State ReThug Secretaries of State (MI, FL, CO, LA?)
will continue in the tradition of '00 Harris
and '04 Blackwell. The triad will be complete, and when combined with
the near majority of voting American idiot theocrats,
the third consecutive election will be lost to the corporate fascists.
I know you mention this all the time, but really,
is there a good answer(s) as to why has the Democratic Party
failed to adequately respond? I know they are
beneficiaries of this ill system, but c'mon, the extent of this failure
is inexcusable and way beyond the pale!
PeterInL.A.
Peter, Democrats might accept victory if
it falls in their lap
but there's no way they're willing to work or
fight for it.

Subject: you are disgusting
I just canceled my subscription, Bart. Your
"print any undocumented rumor about Palin" issue
ranks you right up there with the likes of Kos
and every other "liberal" blog trying to crucify Palin.
I'm not saying she doesn't deserve some of it,
but when they use "Lucille, the waitress" as a source
for a hit piece that "we need to forward far
and wide", well, I have to call "bulshit".
Wait - who quoted Lucille the waitress?
And you think that's not playing fair with the
Fascist dogs?
You pride yourself on telling the truth, or so
you say. Cutting and pasting every rumor
and fabricated hit piece from the pages of Kos
has now become the truth?
Are you sure you got the right guy?
I don't quote from Kos very often...but there
are steps I could take to be more accurate:
I could personally investigate each reported
accusation and publish maybe 12 issues a year.
I expect more from you, Bart. You're getting lazy.
Either that or you're
trying to suck up to the Kos crowd so you can
"make your pie higher".
Whatever. Color me gone.
Gary in NY
Gary, lots of Democrats agree with you
and they voted with their wallets.
They say I'm not being fair enough to the Fascist
pigs and dogs.
Are you looking forward to four more years of
Bush?
The worst part is it takes forever to convince
someone to subscribe
but one wrong sentence and they can unsubscribe
in a milli-second.
I'll bet if I was a Republican, some rich bastard would send me a big
check and say,
"Bart, write whatever you want, print whatever
toons you think are funny
and don't worry about offending somebody
because I've got your back."
But as a Democrat, I have dozens of bosses and many of them want
me to be nice
to the bastards who have started the wars and stolen our Constitution
from us.

Subject: It's 9-11 again and
bin Laden is still free
Here we are at the 7th anniversary of 9-11 and
Osama bin Laden is still free.
The Republicans have focused on going to war
with the wrong country and
have shown very little interest in going after
the people who actually attacked us.
If we keep electing those who failed then all
we'll get is more failure.
With the Bush/McCain administration in power
the only thing that will
stop Osama bin Laden is old age.
Marc Perkel
San Bruno, CA.
But, let's not forget that Bush caught Tommy Chong and Martha Stewart.
I think Bush made a deal with Osama - and what was that deal?
"If you don't attack us on American soil again,
we won't look for you."
What else explains al Qaeda's restraint? They could blow
up our schools,
airports and shopping centers but they've chosen not to
- I wonder why?
It's a perfect match where both sides get something:
bin Laden got worldwide fame and perhaps a million followers
and Bush got all the oil he could steal from Iraq in six years.
There's a reason why Al Qaeda hasn't attacked us again:
This agreement is designed to make Bush/McCain look good.
Osama couldn't defeat Clinton, Gore, Obama or even helpless John Kerry
but he plays George W. Bush like a Stradivarius.

McCain's
Sex Lies
Link
Excerpt:
The McCain campaign has a new ad out that says
(among other things):
"Obama's one accomplishment?
Legislation to teach "comprehensive
sex education" to kindergartners.
Learning about sex before
learning to read?
Barack Obama.
Wrong on education. Wrong
for your family. "
John McCain: wrong on the facts. For starters,
the bill is not a "legislative accomplishment":
it never came up for a vote. If it had, and if
it had passed, it would not have been Sen. Obama's
"legislative accomplishment": he wasn't among
its sponsors. It was passed out of his committee,
and I believe he supported it, but as far as
I can tell, that's the extent of his involvement with it.
More to the point, the bill in question requires
that sex ed courses use medically accurate information.
That is: any sex ed courses that are currently
being taught have to be accurate. It requires that they
be age-appropriate, which I think rules out explicit
discussions of sex in kindergarten.
Bristol Palin could have used sex education to
avoid getting pregnant.
But cave people like her mother think education
is a bad thing.

Subject: Obama and Biden
At first I thought the choice of Palin was a doofus
pick. But seeing the positive letters about her in my paper,
and the way the media is handling her (does anyone
believe Charlie Gibson will ask any HARD questions??),
I'm a little concerned.
I see Obama and Biden going out and praising the
opposition. I'm waiting for them to start playing hardball
like the Rethugs do! You take the high road and
I take the low road......well which road is going to lead to
the White House? Now I am not advocating
a dirty campaign. But I do think Obama and Biden need to
start hitting the McCain/Palin team harder. God
knows there is enough ammunition and there are only
8 weeks left so time is an issue.

Subject: time to give up?
Bart,
What in the hell is wrong with us, that we seem
to be genetically unable to fight back?
After letting the Repukes make a mockery of a
genuine war hero in Kerry while elevating
to sainthood the Chimp, we all swore that it
was never going to happen again.
Fast forward to 2008 - in spite of anguished cries
from Democrats all over the country,
and in every fashion possible, Obama just refuses
to get tough with those idiots.
If you watched his 2 part interview with Olbermann,
Keith gave him opportunity after opportunity
(even really leading him) to blast McSame and
Nanook of the North. Instead, all he got in return
was the quiet, academic, thoughtful answer which,
while very appropriate to a Constitutional Law
Professor was absolute the wrong type and tone
of answer for Joe Sixpack.
Obama just will not get down and dirty with these
thugs, and the election is, i fear, slipping rapidly away.
We can all console ourselves with rationalizations
galore - "he's a great closer", "just you wait
- NOW he's going to get mad" but the election
is right around the corner, and the polls are
relentlessly pointing to his going down the tubes.
We went through it with Dukakis - we went through
it with Kerry - and now we're
going to go through it with Obama, What in the
hell is wrong with us????
Roger the atty
We can still win if Obama takes the gag and handcuffs off during the
debates.
But if he agrees to remain silent, if he chooses to refuse to confront
McCain and his lies,
it could be bad for us.

Random thought...
When a movie or TV show really blows donkey, the producers refuse
to let critics see an advance copy so they can't warn people not to
see it.
That's what McCain is doing now in hiding the Lipsticked pig.
He knows she's clueless on world affairs so he's keeping her away
from reporter's questions as long as possible to mitigate the damage.
Sidebar: Yesterday, I wrote this:
> But if you put lipstick on a pig,
> isn't it still a pig when you get done?
Today, McCain is giving Obama hell for saying that,
but Obama didn't mean it the same way I did :)

Could Hillary
have Palin-proofed Dems?
Link
Excerpt:
Republican Rep. Candice Miller says Obama had
only one shot at Palin-proofing the Democratic ticket
- and he missed it when he passed over Hillary
Rodham Clinton as his running mate.
"Every woman in America knows what Obama did to
Hillary Clinton: He looked at her and thought,
'There's no way I'm doing that,'" said Miller.
"If Hillary was on the ticket, he'd be in a much better
position to win women voters."
Sarah Palin's presence - coupled with Clinton's
absence - may be altering one of the great verities
of American politics: that women voters overwhelmingly
favor Democrats.
An ABC News poll showed white women swinging hard
against the Democratic ticket.
Obama left Denver with an 8-point lead
among white women; by the time he pulled out
of St. Paul, Minn.with Palin at his side, McCain
had taken a 12-point lead.
He lost twenty points with one of the the biggest voting blocks in America
- women.
But that's not Obama's biggest problem - he's losing with THE biggest
voting block - stupid people.
Obama is appealing to the voters who can think - but that's maybe 20
million voters, max.
He's got to connect with dumbass America to have a chance to win this.

Alaska is, in essence, an adjunct member of OPEC.
It has four different taxes on oil, which produce more
than 89% of the state's unrestricted revenue.
On average, three-quarters of the value of a barrel of oil is taken
by the state government before that oil is permitted
to leave the state. Alaska residents each get a yearly check
for about $2,000 from oil revenues, plus an additional
$1,200 pushed through by Palin last year to take advantage
of rising oil prices. Any sympathy the governor
of Alaska expresses for folks in the lower 48 who are suffering
from high gas prices or can't afford to heat
their homes is strictly crocodile tears.
As if it couldn't support itself, Alaska ranks
No. 1, year after year, in money it sucks in from Washington.

Subject: pregnant at 44?
Hey Bart,
Was Sarah Palin using birth control when she got

Does she not believe in it? Is there

That could be considered a policy matter,
