In a sign of just how nervous senior Democrats
are about Obama's situation, top Demo operatives
are privately urging the party's major donors
to get serious about putting big money into outside groups
looking to attack McCain in key battleground
states.
Several senior Democratic strategists unaffiliated
with Obama's campaign convened a private conference call
late last week with at least four dozen of the
party's most prolific donors to progressive causes and outside
groups -- a call designed to instill a sense
among donors that things are "pretty damn urgent" right now,
one of the organizers of the call tells me.
The call is yet another sign that donors and outside
operatives -- who had earlier gotten the message
from Obama that he doesn't want such activity
-- now recognize that Team Obama is privately hoping
for such efforts to gear up in earnest.
I don't like this: It looks like Obama is saying,
"I'm not going to fight for this - if you
want me to win YOU have to fight."
Why doesn't Obama want to list the facts?
How can he lead if he refuses to fight?

Running on a Lie

What kind of person tells a self-aggrandizing
lie, gets called on it, admits publicly
that the truth is not at all what she originally

telling the original lie again without changing
a word?
Wrongly accused, reporters are doing nothing more
sinister than trying to find out
who she is, how she thinks and what she has done
in office.
One deeply troubling thing we're learning about
Palin is that, as far as she's concerned,
unambiguous fact doesn't appear to rise even
to the level of inconvenience.
He's exactly right.
She admits she lied about the Bridge to Nowhere and then keeps
that lie
in her speech the next day and finally a reporter is calling
her on it.

I don't understand why they put more energy into
defeating Hillary in the primaries
than they put into fighting McCain. EVERYONE
is commenting on it, not just you Bart.

this coming? You did. I suspected it too. I hope we're
wrong. .
Does anyone think for a nanosecond that if Hillary
had been our nominee we would be discussing
the apathy of her campaign as she got smeared

I know, I know. She isn't our nominee and
we have to get behind Obama. I am.
I'll be voting for Obama but I just wish I felt
I was voting for the winning side.

What makes people vote Republican? Why in particular
do working class and rural Americans
usually vote for pro-business Republicans when
their economic interests would seem better served
by Democratic policies? We psychologists long
ago reported that strict parenting and a variety of
personal insecurities work together to turn people
against liberalism, diversity, and progress.
But now that we can map the brains, genes, and
unconscious attitudes of conservatives, we have
refined our diagnosis: conservatism is a partially
heritable personality trait that predisposes some
people to be cognitively inflexible, fond of
hierarchy, and inordinately afraid of uncertainty, change,
and death. People vote Republican because Republicans
offer "moral clarity" -- a simple vision of
good and evil that activates deep seated fears
in much of the electorate. Democrats, in contrast,
appeal to reason with their long-winded explorations
of policy options for a complex world.
In other words, most Democrats give a thousand word answer when asked,
"Is it raining?"
If Democrats could dumb things down a little, Joe Six Pack might understand
and trust him.
That's why these goofy people say they want to drink a beer with Bush
- because the

and they get scared.
