Bush the
Arrogant Bastard
The more he screws up the more power he steals
Link
Excerpt:
As Bush attempts to stabilize his crashing economy,
we are witness to the final chapter of a period of
perverse and dishonest leadership that has used
its own crises to justify the expansion of its own power.
This little boy came to office on promises of
modesty -- who championed a "humble nation," scorned nation
building and promised a more limited role for
government in the lives of its citizens. Then he presided over a
six-year attempt to tear down and rebuild the
nations of Afghanistan and Iraq, and now has embarked on the
most profound expansion of the federal government's
role in the private economy since the Depression.
In both cases, the pattern is the same. Ineptitude
led to crisis; crisis then became the argument for the
radical expansion of executive power. The administration
insisted that it exercise its new authority with
a minimum of scrutiny by Congress, the courts
or the public...
These troubles are about more than a president
who is unfaithful to his word. Bush has transformed the
balance of power in our government. We are seeing
the erection of an imperial presidency, immune from
oversight when it fights terrorists and when
it rescues banks."
Bush is immune from oversight because the wet-my-pants Democrats allow
him to break the law.
If we could get rid of useless, enabler-dregs like Pelosi, Reid and
Leahy we could get our country back.

are you complaining again? Don't you ever stop?"

Subject: We need more activism
Bart, we need more activism.... I go to a lot
of forums and the Nazi chihuahuas are out in force,
they are all over the place, even on the more
liberal sites, including yours (I love Monkey Mail!).
But a lot of the right-wing sites are spared our
stuff. I just was on Townhall....
It's life a daisy chain of Nazi bastards there!
On one comment-forum, I was
THE ONLY ONE blasting a visibly racist columnist
(Austin Hill)
I think we should be throwing our ammo at the
rightwing sites, too, and I would encourage
any democratic readers (big D small D), who want
our country to survive and beat back these
ignorant hordes, to get on the Web, take 20-30
minutes occasionally to simply blast all the
anti-McCain or pro-Obama arguments onto these
sites.
I use a lot of copy and paste. I mix real argumentation
with drumfire blasting...

Palin Aides Fail to Appear
They "respect" the law like Bush & Cheney
Link
Excerpt:
Seven of Sarah Palin's top aides defied subpoenas
for their testimony Friday into possible abuse of power by the governor.
Palin's Chief of Staff Mike Nizich and six other
aides failed to appear at a legislative hearing into whether Palin
abused her power when she fired her public safety
commissioner this summer.
Alaska Senate Judiciary Chairman Hollis French,
D-Anchorage, waited 30 minutes Friday before reading a statement
that the witnesses could be found in contempt
when
the full Legislature convenes in January and that the investigation
will go on "in a simple search for the truth."
Well sure - no sense in finding out if the VP
is a crook until after she takes the office.
Are Alaska Democrats like Democrats everywhere?
Bigger Point:
If the wet-ourselves-with-fear democrats had taken action the first
time
Bush said "Fuck you" to a subpoena,
we wouldn't have this problem.
Now, each time a Republican gets a subpoena they just laugh at us
because they know that no Democrat will insist on upholding the
law.
This is mostly the fault of one Bush-loving rubberstamp.
How did I get in the same party as these helpless crybaby quitters?

Subject: Churches should
not get tax money
I have to disagree with the 33 churches who decided
to break the law and endorse a candidate.
Churches who accept tax deductible money are
not allowed to endorse candidates. But churches
do it anyway which makes me question if churches,
including the Church of Reality which I founded,
should be allowed to take tax deductible money.
I'm considering giving up tax exempt status because of this.
Whenever someone gets to write off tax money they
donate to churches then other taxpayers have to
pay more taxes to make up for the difference.
When a candidate can launder political money through a
church it stains both parties. I think the time
has come not to silence the clergy, but to free them to say
whatever they want. Churches should not be taxed,
but they also should not be tax deductible. If we
eliminated the tax deduction to churches then
the issue of what preachers can do goes away.
I think that these preachers should focus more
on the Gospel and less on money and politics.
After all, as they say, one can not serve two
masters.

Friday's
Debate
At 9:12 PM, 72 minutes into the Mccain/Obama debate, the score from
right-wing
naked gambler Bill Bennett (R-Still Smoking) was Obama 3, McCain
3 - amazing.
And the other right-wing handjob Castelanos (?) had it 17-13 Obama with
McCain getting a net -3 points for a total of a 7-point spread.
Note:
These right-wingers were scoring the debate LIVE.
CNN said Obama clearly won, but then, so did Kerry and Gore.

Brigade
homeland tours start Oct. 1
Link
Excerpt:
The 3rd Infantry Division's 1st Brigade Combat
Team has spent 35 of the last 60 months in Iraq
patrolling in full battle rattle, helping restore
essential services and escorting supply convoys.
In other words - they're used to shooting anything
they don't understand.
Now they're training for the same mission - with
a twist - at home.
Beginning Oct. 1 for 12 months, the 1st BCT will
be under the day-to-day control of U.S. Army North,
the Army service component of Northern Command,
as an on-call federal response force for natural or
manmade emergencies and disasters, including
terrorist attacks.
They may be called upon to help with civil unrest
and crowd control or to deal with potentially
horrific scenarios such as massive poisoning
and chaos in response to a chemical, biological,
radiological, nuclear or high-yield explosive,
or CBRNE, attack.
If Bush knows a new threat is likely, maybe he
should share it with us.
I don't like that they're here "to help with
civil unrest and crowd control."
Didn't Nixon try that?
What is Bush going to do that he expects us to hit the streets in protest?
Why is the
Army coming to babysit us?
by Salon's Glenn Greenwald
Link
Excerpt:
After Katrina, Bush began openly agitating for
what would be, in essence, a complete elimination of
the Posse Comitatus Act in order to allow the
President to deploy U.S. military forces inside the U.S.
basically at will -- and, as usual, they were
successful as a result of rapid bipartisan compliance with
the Leader's demand (the same kind of compliance
that is about to foist a bailout package on the nation).
This April, 2007 article by James Bovard in The
American Conservative detailed the now-familiar
mechanics that led to the destruction of this
particular long-standing democratic safeguard:
The Defense Authorization Act of 2006, passed
on Sept. 30, empowers Bush to impose martial law
in the event of a terrorist "incident," if
he or other federal officials perceive a shortfall of "public order,"
or even in response to antiwar protests that
get unruly as a result of government provocations. . . .
Where are all of the stalwart right-wing "small
government conservatives" who spent the 1990s so vocally
opposing every aspect of the growing federal
police force? And would it be possible to get some explanation
from the Government about what the rationale
is for this unprecedented domestic military deployment
(at least unprecedented since the Civil War),
and why it is being undertaken now?
Of course Bush isn't going to give us anyu reason and the whore press
won't ask.
Too bad our democrats are, once again, busy wetting themselves in fear.
They won't say a word.
Tin soldiers and Bush bastards coming - we're finally on our own.

Subject: Bailout to pass despite
NO support?
Hey Bart,
We were pissed when Bush forced through his big
tax cuts for the rich in the face of popular
opposition (something like 2-to-1 against if
I remember right). But at least the tax cuts had
support from *some* measure of the electorate,
and we knew who they were.
The bailout, though, seems to be supported by
practically no one!
The right-wing loony blog sites are just as up-in-arms
as the lefty sites.
Yet, this much larger (and, I must say, conveniently
timed) swindle looks poised for passage
in the Congress, and EVERYBODY hates it! For
once, right and left in this country are united
on a critical issue of the day...and it makes
not a whit of difference.
How 'bout them apples? It tells me something about
the state of our erstwhile nation.
It's amazing: if we give these mysterious richers
the trillion they demand, they're going to
bankrupt us; but if we refuse, they threaten
to take it out on us and bankrupt us anyway.
George Carlin warned that in the end they'd "get
it all."
Now here they are.

Link
Excerpt:
It supposedly is an attack on State Senator Andrew
Rice
for being too soft on criminals.
But by juxtaposing nine "criminals" with an extremely
unflattering picture of Rice, Inhofe is
clearly appealing to racists who believe all
people of color are thugs. Eight of the nine are
either clearly black or appear to be.
Then, as in earlier ads, the Inhofe theme - "Andrew
Rice is everything Oklahoma is not"
- is repeated, this time by a sweet white grandmotherly
type. And of course we have
Rice juxtaposed with Obama and the universal
symbol for "Stop" or "No".
This is filthy.
Inhofe is clearly sending a message that those
of color need not apply for first class citizenship in Oklahoma.

Subject: the Surge
I noted that McCain again mentioned "the surge"
during the debate on Friday.
Obama pointed out that McCain seemed to act like
the war began in 2007, not 2003.
Well, here's my question: Since Gen. Erik Shinseki
suggested a surge from the very start
of the war, why didn't war hero and Maverick
John McCain support Shinseki back then?
Why wasn't McCain calling for a surge from day
one?
Or at least as soon as the insurgency began?
Inquiring voters want to know!
Stan in Durant, OK
You're right.
By starting the war with too-few soldiers, we
sacrificed the first 3,000 for nothing
but Bush and the military assure the grieving
families that their loved ones did not die in vain.
I don't understand soldiers or their families
- they seem to be OK with that.
Donating a son or daughter to the Bush-Halliburton
rape of Iraq seems to be
the least they can do for their president
- and that confuses a logician like myself.

Excerpt:
How can it be that in 2008 - 143 years after
slavery was abolished, decades after the civil rights movement
- an AP-Yahoo News poll could find that racial
misgivings could cost Sen. Barack Obama the election?
Note: Am Oklahoma poll shows 40 percent
won't vote for a Black guy.
How racist is your state by comparison?
In search of explanations, two Whore AP reporters
- one black, one white - listened to people of both races
along Detroit's divides. They found people of
both races living just blocks apart who nonetheless spoke of
each other like strangers. There was suspicion,
contempt - and yet, for many, a desperate hope that Obama's

long path to racial equality. For whites, their support of
Democratic economic policies forces them to confront
their racial prejudices."

Random thought...
The Democrats should point out the obvious - that
McCain
knows Palin's not ready
and the proof is his refusal to let her talk
to reporters at an official press conference.
If McCain knows she's not ready, why is she on
the ticket?
And if McCain does think she's ready, what's
stopping her
from holding a real press conference to prove
she's ready?
But no, the Democrats don't know how to fight.
They don't know how to make the case that she's
not ready.
Once again, they need my help.
I've offered, but they're too proud to ask.

Newman did something really remarkable: He sustained
that early promise for five decades.
He grew old and gray but not fat and cranky;
he was recognizably, at any moment in his film career,
Paul Newman. He did cool things well, like racing
cars, and made doing good seem cool, with the
Newman's
Own brand of foods that has donated about $250 million to charity.
His politics remained responsibly liberal; his
public voice retained its wit and equanimity.
He deprived the tabloids of the scandal headlines
they love: no rap sheet, no rehab stints, no notorious affairs.
And no messy divorce; indeed, no divorce at all,
once he became a public figure. He married Joanne
Woodward (his second wife) in 1958; this past
January they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
He was the movie star who could have been your
prized next-door neighbor. To a great extent, the image
had to be the man. That's why Newman, who died
Friday at 83 after a long battle with cancer, was not just
the iconic movie star of his age - he was one
of the last public figures to lead an exemplary life.
From
Roger Ebert:
An outspoken liberal, Newman placed 19th on Richard
Nixon's "enemies list,"
and cited that as one of his proudest achievements.
The first time I saw Paul Newman they'd broken his thumbs for disguising
his pool playing talent..
I played pool for food for 5 years and I always remembered not to make
that bone-breaking mistake.
The last time I saw him on Letterman, Dave told Paul to look into the
studio monitor.

Over the past two weeks he's seen a small but

Pollsters say that's in part because the vital

Subject: the debate
If I'm an Obama advisor I'd advise him to stop
saying "John's right" or "Senator McCain is right again"
and "I agree with Senator McCain". You can agree
with him without saying he's right. If you do agree
with him, say the same thing using different
words.
I see polls say Obama won. Obama has my vote regardless
(like you), but I don't see how he won.
I had to listen to the debate as I was driving.
I thought he did a great job, but then again I think
McCain did a good job getting his points across.
Granted, he didn't present the public with any
ideas, but the public doesn't care about ideas.
They care about how the candidate makes them
feel. Neither candidate did a good enough job
to energize the independant voters and the average
American voter.
Keith in Memphis
I, too, was surprised that McCain could rattle off names of countries
and leaders the way he did.
And I agree that "John is right" was worn out in the first half hour.

In five weeks, I hope to look back on this column
with a wry chuckle at my paranoia. If the system works,
Obama will take the White House. The two issues
John McCain is most closely associated with - invading Iraq
and deregulating the economy - have produced
history-snatching catastrophes in the eyes of 80 per cent of us.
In the first debate, McCain revealed he had nothing
to say except more of the same: aggression abroad,
market fundamentalist ideology at home. So why
am I worried?
Obama is only a few jittery points ahead in the
polls, and he has yet to face an October Surprise. This is an
old term in US politics, invented when, on the
eve of the 1968 election, Lyndon Johnson announced a halt to
the bombing of Vietnam. It was a desperate attempt
to push his VP Humphrey, over the finish line - and it failed.
But October Surprises need not come from the
opposing party. They can come from anywhere."
