The Case For Letting It Burn
Or, How Crazy Can One Suggestion Be?

 riehlworldview.com

 Excerpt:
While no one should want a major meltdown of the American and world economies,
there is a common sense rationale for simply allowing it to burn. I see people going on
about a trillion dollars in value lost. But in any real sense, that value wasn't really there...

Oh really?
So Bill Gates is only rich on paper?

Some of the alarmists out there might want to take a moment to consider all the ramifications here.
It may sound harsh, but the Great Depression produced many things - one of them was called the Greatest Generation

Dude, are you Catholic?
The Great Depression didn't make anything better.

Are you one of those crazies who says, "If it doesn't kill me it makes me straonger?
If overcoming hardship and adversity are good for you, would it help if I kicked your ass,
robbed you,  pushed you backwards down some steps and set your house on fire?

Revolt of the Nihilists
 by right-wing nut David Brooks

 Link

 Excerpt:
They have failed utterly and catastrophically to project any sense of authority, to give the world
any reason to believe that this country is being governed. Instead, by rejecting the rescue package
on Monday, they have made the psychological climate much worse.

George W. Bush is completely out of juice, having squandered his influence with both parties.

House Republicans led the way and will get most of the blame. It has been interesting to watch them
on their single-minded mission to destroy the Republican Party. Not long ago, they led an anti-immigration
crusade that drove away Hispanic support. Then, too, they listened to the loudest and angriest voices in
their party, oblivious to the complicated anxieties that lurk in most American minds. Now they have once
again confused talk radio with reality. With Monday's vote, they've taken responsibility for this economy,
and they will be held accountable. The short-term blows will fall on John McCain, the long-term stress
on the existence of the G.O.P. as we know it.

Brooks is forgetting how stupid voters are.

Poor people, year after year, vote to make the rich richer and that's crazy.
The way America votes, you'd think 2/3 of us are Fortune 500 CEOs.

Poor people could vote themselves out of poverty - but they choose not to.
and that's why we don't win every election - because American voters are so f-ing stupid.

 Subject: a complaint

It's been a while since I've complained about you, so I want to take an opportunity to stay in form.

First of all, as a die-hard hockey fan looking forward to the season opener between the Pens and Sens
in Stockholm, I think it's disgraceful the way you have been using Sarah Palin as a means to trivialize and
ridicule this wonderful sport.  Not all hockey enthusiasts make their pets wear lipstick...  or something...

And furthermore, speaking of pets, "Thing-A-Ma-Dog" (aka "Thing")

is beginning to harbor some resentments at the unfair and blatantly biased comparrisons
being made between pit bulls and chihuahuas.  I find this type of specie-ism narrow and
ultimately unhelpful to our mutual cause.

I'm also VERY upset that although you have found cause to print the lyrics to "Jewish Princess"
and "Catholic Girls", you have allowed "Bobby Brown Goes Down" and "I'm The Slime" to go
largely ignored.  In an open Democracy such as ours, all relevant FZ lyrics should be heard.

I wish you well sir.  Keep swingin'.

Fear Bush? Meet Sarah Palin

 Link

 Excerpt:
As some conservative writers such as Kathleen Parker have called into question Sarah Palin's ability
to become our next VP where she wrote, "Palin's recent interviews with Charles Gibson, Sean Hannity
and now Katie Couric have all revealed an attractive, earnest, confident candidate. Who Is Clearly Out
Of Her League." While that may raise the eye-brows of some: What terrifies me and I have written of it
before is her willingness to go to war with Russia which is a superpower in its own right who does have
at its disposal nuclear war heads.

It is not so much her unpreparedness to become the next VP and perhaps president should McCain
die in office that scares me, but what she may be prepared to do and that is launch World War Three.
I truly believe that a third world war is one where we will not survive once the genie is let out of the bottle.

I'm reminded of a great line Walter Mondale used again Reagan in a debate in 1984:
"It's not what he doesn't know that scares me, it's what he knows that just ain't so."

With an angel on her shoulder, Sarah will know that it's God's will that she push the button.

One other thing:
It's not just that Russia has nukes.
It's that they have over 10,000 nukes and the means to deliver them.

Bush Let Osama Go

 Link

 Excerpt:
New evidence from former U.S. officials reveals that Bush failed to adopt any plan to block the retreat
of Osama bin Laden and other al Qaeda leaders from Afghanistan to Pakistan in the first weeks after 9/11.
That failure was directly related to the fact that top administration officials gave priority to planning for war
with Iraq over military action against al Qaeda in Afghanistan. As a result, the United States had far too few
troops and strategic airlift capacity in the theatre to cover the large number of possible exit routes through the
border area when bin Laden escaped in late 2001...

Had Bush's priority been to get Osama, he could have deployed the necessary ground troops
and airlift resources in the theatre over a period of months before the offensive in Afghanistan began.

Who is shocked by this?
The little boy saw a chance to steal Saddam's toys so he made the decision to screw New York,
screw the 9-11 families and screw the promise he made on that pile of rubble right after 9-11.

In 2004, if Kerry had had the balls to remind New Yorkers of this 911-betrayal...

Question:
Why do I start sentences like that?

When Madmen Reign

 Link

 Excerpt:
I'd like to see the self-proclaimed conservative, small government, anti-regulation, free-market zealots
step up and take responsibility for wrecking the American economy. Even now, with the house on fire,
the most extreme among them won't pick up the fire hoses and try to put it out.

With Bush's desperate $700 billion bailout hanging in the balance, Representative Darrell Issa, (R-Cali),
stuck to his political playbook like a man covered in Krazy Glue. He pronounced himself "resolute" in his
opposition to the bailout because to be otherwise would amount to a betrayal of party principles.

To deviate from those principles, said Issa,
would be like "placing a coffin on top of Ronald Reagan's coffin."

Issa wants you to forget that Reagan raised taxes in 1986.
Democrats never talk about the Reagan tax increases because they don't want to win.

Issa wants you to forget that Poppy Bush raised taxes after promising he wouldn't.
Democrats never talk about the Bush tax increases because they don't want to win.

Issa wants you to forget that Clinton raised taxes on the super-rich and balanced the budget.
Democrats never talk about the Clinton Miracle because they don't want to win.

They allow these wild-ass myths to fester and then they wonder
why they have an image to overcome at the voting booth.

Why are Democrats so afraid to list the facts?

Subject: silly argument

Richard Bach wrote, 'Argue for your limitations, and sure enough they are yours."

Si se puedo.  (If I can...)

I hate being right sometimes.

I know that feeling.

If GM can't sell cars, it is not because credit is not available.
It is because their product offers no incentive.

There are cars that get 80 MPG in production today!

Link

Unavailable for sale in the United States however.
 Geno

Geno, I get that, but even if that 80 MPG car was available in the US right now,
how many non-Republicans can afford to pay cash for a new car right now?

Lack of credit kills car sales and house sales - our biggest economic engines.
We need to replace what the Bush bastards stole.

Maybe when Obama gets elected he'll give the IRS 10,000 more auditors
and we'll pay them a percentage of what they collect from these Republican thieves.

Subject: Frank Zappa's 'Catholic Girls'

OK Bart here is one one more from a late night on the Left Coast.

Seeing as how I am a good Catholic girl and a fan of Zappa I had to share this story with you.

I was at the Obama rally in Seattle and it was raining and cold and there were so many people
that we could not get into the arena and we just stood outside and waited and waited.
I was thinking that some of the folks out here are here for the "great one."

I was there to support my son's new found interest in politics ala Obama.
I was criticizing the whole set up and then the Zappa tune Po-Jama People
came into my head with the twist O-Bama People.

It kept me warm and happy inside waiting for it to be over!
Since then I have drunk the koolaid.

Obama, Your Time is Right Now

 Link

 Excerpt:
The time is ripe for Obama to advance a populist proposal that would address the adverse fallout
of Wall Street excess without rewarding the sons of bitches who caused the problem. Obama doesn't
need to suspend his campaign to lead his party. He told us he can multitask. This is the time for Obama
to seize the moment, not to micromanage the drafting of complex legislation, but to outline a clear plan
that embraces the values of Democrats. If Obama spends a day with Barney Frank and Chris Dodd to
hash out new legislation, and his party comes together, Democrats can do something useful, take rightful
credit for it, and expose McCain as a failed leader.

Subject: coping with Palin

I have been forced to walk a very fine line myself with respect to Palin because I was so incensed
at how Hillary was treated.  I am infuriated at the Republicans for pointing their finger at me and all
women in general for not rushing to support Caribou Barbie because she is a woman.

It shows how flawed (not to mention cynical) their thinking truly is.  Just because Sarah Palin has
ovaries it doesn't immediately make her qualified to be a 72 year old heartbeat away from the Presidency.
It proves how sexist they really are.

Of course, they did give us George Bush so it proves their standards aren't particularly high.

Blame GOP ideologues
 by Gene Lyons

 moose-and-squirrel.com

 Excerpt:
On Republican talk radio, see, it's been an article of faith for months that Democrats have been falsely
talking down the economy for political purposes, so when Pelosi pointed out that Bush inherited budget
surpluses, turned them into massive deficits and continued to preach deregulation even as heedless
speculators turned the U. S. banking system into the world's largest roulette wheel, GOP congressmen
got petulant and killed the bailout plan.

The poor babies got their feelings hurt. Then they went running back to their districts
to spend the Jewish holiday campaigning as champions of Main Street.

Conservative New York Times columnist David Brooks got it right: In their "single-minded mission to
destroy the Republican Party," he wrote, GOP congressmen "have once again confused talk radio with reality."

Live by Rush Limbaugh, die by Rush Limbaugh.

Sarah Palin - the Pet Rock of Politics

 Link

 Excerpt:
There is something about Sarah Palin that gnaws at me, and it isn't that she has wilted under the
soft light shined upon her by perky Katie Couric. It isn't that I disagree with Palin on just about
every single substantive issue I can think of... What's bothering me about Palin isn't even Palin.
It is that she's been made into the novelty act -- even the freak show -- of the presidential campaign...

Palin has become a sideshow: See Sarah stumble through the Couric interviews. Watch clips of
Sarah's beauty-pageant swimsuit competition on YouTube. Laugh as Tina Fey does a better
Sarah than Sarah herself. This is a terrible predicament not only for Palin but for all American women.

Palin's candidacy isn't shattering the glass ceiling for her or any other woman. It is killing us with a thousand cuts."

She has a point - Palin is almost an argument for why women shouldn't be in politics.
She doesn't seem to have half of my IQ and I don't get to say that very often.

Like Bush, she doesn't care that she doesn't know.
Like Bush, she can always decide "from her gut" at the last minute
and if she flashes a littl leg while she's on TV, she know men will vote for her.

Maybe we'd be better off if
only women could run for office
and only women could vote.

Flashback

Subject: tonight's debate

The debate tonight will be hysteric. Biden has to go after her without going after her and will lose
by any right wing standard. The fix is in as her bomb-shelter-level expectations couldn't be lower.

As Woody Allen says, 80% of life is showing up...she doesn't even have to show.
The only way we can win tonight is if Palin makes Biden cry... can't totally dismiss the possibility, I guess.

I think for national security, we need to send Palin back to Alaska
to keep an eye on Russia....and, of course, Canada... ...dangerous times...

Hammer the yammer,
Wayne, Dayton

A lot f it depends on the questions they ask her.
If they say, "Do you agree with the Reagan Doctrine," she'll simply say "Yes."

If they say, "What would you do if Climaxistan invades Handjobbistan,"
she won't be able to answer yes-or-no and that could kill her.

Knowing our lazy whore press (not Gwern Ifill, necessarily) they like to ask questions like
"What's the funnest part of your job as governor?"

..and you know who's the king of that?

"I'm a backstabbing moron
