"C-SPAN released its Historians Survey of Presidential
Leadership, in which "65 presidential historians ranked the 42 presidents on ten attributes of leadership."
Coming in first was Lincoln, followed by Washington, F.D.R., Theodore Roosevelt, and Truman. Finishing
last was Buchanan. George W. Bush came in 36th, just beating out Millard Fillmore, who ranked 37th."

That panel must have some Bush bastards on it.
There were seven presidents worse than
Bush? How is that possible?
Bush broke the world and destroyed the American
dream.
Excerpt: Is there a way for President Obama to pursue
that responsibility without inflicting vengeance or humiliation?
Perhaps he ought to consider the creation of
a presidential commission whose aims would be purely investigative
-- and encourage the participation of those implicated
in the abuses of the past by promising a complete pardon
to anyone who testifies fully, honestly and publicly.
With that gesture, he would acknowledge the importance
of uncovering the facts, no matter how ugly,
while magnanimously binding up the nation's wounds.
He could leave the issue of criminal prosecution
to international authorities that can act without
any partisan taint. And he could seek truth without vengeance.
I like the idea but it'll never happen because Pelosi and Reid
have lots of blood on their hands.
Their careers are over if the truth comes out - time for another cover-up
- somebody call Lee Hamilton,
"If Nixon and his crew had been prosecuted
and jailed we would not have had to suffer Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz and Rove for eight years. They were
all behind the scenes players in the Nixon Administration and the only lessons that the Nixon pardon taught
them was that government looks out for it’s own and don’t leave behind any overt evidence. So they acted under
the pretense that there would be no consequences for their crimes and guess what…they appear to have
been right." -- A Patriot Acting,

These are domestic terrorists. They want the country to fail, for God’s sake. They want exactly
what anyone who attacked this country on September 11, 2001 wanted. The real internal terrorists are the Republicans,
I mean, isn't that clear? Rush Limbaugh is a bigger threat to this country than Osama bin Laden. He's a
bigger threat than anybody that the CIA can invent. He's a bigger threat than any terrorist that ever leveled
its sights against the United States, Limbaugh is, so why isn't he arrested and sentenced for treason?"

Bush could only see the

(552) Though he famously told Katie Couric “We
don’t torture,” among the things the self- proclaimed Christian
George W. Bush will be best known for is his administration’s plunge into
the draconian policy of torture
Bush ordered torture not because it was necessary,
but so he could masturbate to the videos.

"It’s twice as hard to be a Democrat as it
is to be a Republican. For example, the Dems took heat because they didn’t impeach Dubyah. But they
would most certainly have been crucified if they had impeached. Similarly, the Democrats will catch hell whether
or not they prosecute the Bush gang. We all know this. They’ll catch hell no matter whether or how or how
fast they withdraw from Iraq. They will catch hell no matter whether or how quickly or slowy the economy recuperates.
They will be howled at no matter whether or how fast or how the Gitmo mess is resolved. They will get chewed
out no matter whether or how they resolve the health care mess. And so on. Even when when Republicans screw
up beyond the imagination of God–as they just have–everyone is quick to cut the Democrats in on a heaping
big slice of the blame. Even progressives talk this way. It’s just weird."

I don't think I agree with that.

Excerpt The Nelly account suggests a systematic collapse
of professional ethics driven by the Pentagon itself.
He describes body searches undertaken for no
legitimate security purpose, simply to sexually invade
and humiliate the prisoners. This was a standardized
Bush tactic. The Bush White House vehemently
objected to provisions of the law dealing with
rape by instrumentality. When House negotiators
pressed to know why, they were met first with
silence and then an embarrassed acknowledgement
that a key part of the Bush program included
invasion of the bodies of prisoners in a way that might be deemed rape by instrumentality
under existing federal criminal statutes.
In other words, they were raping (with instruments)
the helpless suspects for fun.
"Rape for fun" has been a hallmark of the Bush
admisistration.

The Republicans had no problem with the price

24 buildings on 120 acres, swimming pools, tennis

And we are about to give it back to the Iraqi's

Bart,
I think (hope) Obama is crazy like a fox. He
is going the bipartisan route because he promised he would.
AND - just as it is turning out - he is proving
to the country that HE is the sane, rational , America-loving
REAL President, and the repukes are greedy, obstructionist
assholes. GOP - Greedy Obstructionist Party.
Our problems won't be solved overnight - it has
decades of repuke sabotage to get here. But, when the
stimulus bill starts to show some positive effects
he can point to the repukes and say "These assholes OPPOSED this."
After giving a legitimate effort to be bipartisan
he can say "Hey, I tried. They want to be assholes so fuck them,
we are moving forward with an agenda that will
benefit the PEOPLE."
Bill Press wants to deny money to the districts
of the idiot repukes that voted against the bill. I think that's the
wrong way to go because that will punish innocents
in those districts. Instead, the Democrats in those districts
should scream at the top of their lungs every
time a job is created in that district "Congressman Dickhead voted
AGAINST this job." Or against this new school.
Or against this new construction project, etc.
Keep hammerin'

I, too, hope Obama is giving them the rope-a-dope.

Excerpt: Gov. Mark Sanford of South Carolina took umbrage
at my writing that his approach to the economic crisis is to do nothing.
If Republican politicians are so deeply opposed
to Obama's economic recovery plan, they should refuse to take the money.
After all, if you think all that federal spending
is damaging, there are easy ways to reduce it: Don't take federal money.
Gov. Sanford can lead the way. South Carolina
should decline to accept any federal funds for transportation, education,
health care,
clean energy or any of the other ideas President
Obama is advocating to fix the economy. And the rest of the GOP can follow
suit.

Excerpt: Disappointing advocates of stricter gun laws,
the Obama Justice Department is defending a midnight regulation
that allows concealed firearms in national parks.
Three groups, including the Brady Campaign, have filed a lawsuit
to overturn the law. The Obama administration
has countered that the rule will not affect the environment, public
health or safety. Nonetheless, Interior Secretary
Ken Salazar has asked for a review of the rule.
I have an opinion about this that most liberals
don't like.
As a gun owner, I can only see this issue thru
gun owner's eyes.
If you're walking on some trail in some national
park, why would you not want a gun?
When Mrs Bart can convince me to go walking on
some trail, I feel much safer with a gun.
Tell me - what are two pretty girls going to do
if they're miles away from anybody else and they
meet some scumbags on the trail who insist on
seeing them put on a lesbian show for them?
Crying won't help you, praying won't do you no
good.
If some scumbags decide to own you
in the woods, they f-ing own you.
With some luck, you'll only be beaten
and raped - so who likes the way that story ends?
There's a reason why guns are big out West and
not in the city.
If you're vacationing in some tourist trap small
town and can't find a place to park,
you know you're always a shout away from help
if there's a problem - but in the woods?
Add to that the in-the-zoo-with-no-cages factor.
Trust me, I'm not looking to challenge some bear
or cougar in the damn woods.
Go hiking in Rocky Mountain Park, sometime. At
the head of every trail, they give you tips on
how to survive if you meet a mountain
lion or a bear or a who-knows-what's living in those woods.
I assume there are deaths each year from people
who accidentally surprised elk and caribou?
*I* am not looking to meet any wild animals bigger
than a chipmunk in the woods,
but if I do, I'd rather have my Glock there as
some kind of equalizer.
Should you be forced to give up your right to self defense because it's
a national park?
What if you got older every time you committed a war crime?
Subject: mirrors

Ross, good point.
I'd certainly never stay with a "We censor" provider, but then again,
maybe he's in the military or works for Northrop Grumman or something.

Desert sand with a heat index of 140 degrees costs twice as much as trees

I assume near New York houses are $400K for 1000 sq ft - but
who can live that way?
Excerpt: Quick, what do Stephen Colbert, the Department
of Health, Congress, and Dareland have in common?
We've all been banned from Wikipedia.
It started when I posted a link to a recent article
I had written about Sweeney Todd. It was removed with the notice that
Wikipedia had a rule against linking to blogs.
I did not know that. No biggie. The piece was also
in an online issue of
Disinfotainment Today, a newspaper archived on
my personal site, so I simply changed the link to go to the non-blog version.
It was tagged again as a link to a blog. I guess
the link had the word "dareland" in it, so it was presumed to be the dareland
blog,
which is hosted at Blogger. Someone
noticed the new link led to the exact same article, and I was tagged as
a spammer.
This caused a mighty ripple through the editor
universe in Wikipedia. I had dared to repost a link I'd been
told to take down,
not because of anything in it, but because the
OLD link was to a blog. This red flag led to the removal of
my posting privileges.
I think Michael Dare is as good a writer as I've seen on the Internet.
He grabs your attention and you always want to keep reading.

Two men were arrested including a man who said

security.

Excerpt: Happened to me one day. I got beat. My two pair
got busted at the river by a set.
Now, I understand in poker, stuff like that just
happens, and many others have taken worse beats.
Ordinarily, I can shake off unfortunate things
like that.
My question is: how do you regain your composure
after you suffer such a blow?
Hey, Bart....I am sorry you've been sick.
And I just sent you a pittance because it's time I did again,
what with Bartcop being my favorite site on the
web and all..
But I must tell you that some of your comments
on Jack Cafferty's complaints about Nancy Pelosi distress me a bit.
You say that If he's right, you'll join him in
saying shame on her for "putting them in there," the "them" being
programs
he says are in the initial House version of the
stimulus bill. Do you really mean that?
"Contraception" is the usual Right Wing shorthand
for all reproductive health care programs, (some of them
shortened it even further, just to "Condoms")
programs that the states are struggling to keep alive.
Or should we just let our women of childbearing
age stumble along, ignorant, ill, and/or pregnant?
Federal stimulus aid for ALL of the programs on
the above list would safeguard jobs, even create them in healthcare,
the arts, and yes, landscaping. Isn't it
the point of the stimulus to get as much money into as many sectors of
the economy as possible?
I find it hard to believe that you agree with
Cafferty on this point.
Did I misunderstand?
That said....
You're still my favorite website.
Carol in Philadelphia
Carol, I think I failed to make myself clear.
We all agree that kids need to know about condoms and the facts
if life.
But do we stop to teach that lesson when we're trying to save our burning
home?
No, I suggest we wait for a more appropriate time, when things are
calm and our home is secure.
I keep seeing headlines, like the one on Yahoo today: "The
worst is yet to come."
I suggest we win THAT battle - then get back to condoms and funding
for the arts.
