"I could only see Bush and feel the blood of
the innocents flow under his feet, as he was smiling that smile - as if he had come to
bid farewell to Iraq and with the last support and more than 1 million martyrs. At that moment,
I felt this is the man who killed our nation… the main murderer and the main person responsible
for killing our nation."
-- Muntadher al-Zaidi, saying he was provoked to throw his shoes by Dubya's
"bloodless and
soulless smile" and his joking banter, in an appearance on Thursday at
the Central Criminal Court of Iraq,, Link
I think Obama should step in and make sure
this guy isn't tortured for throwing his shoes at Bush.
Excerpt: With Obama’s pilgrimages to Capitol Hill, multiple
cocktail parties at the White House, dinner at George Will’s house,
and a bipartisan Super Bowl party, not to mention
inserting tax cuts in the stimulus package, the president put courting
Republicans on equal footing with economic revival.
Getting the party on board came to be up there with putting Americans back
to work.
Republicans responded with a characteristic display
of good will, quickly making it clear they’d be satisfied with nothing
less
than complete capitulation to their demand for
ever more tax cuts for the wealthy even if the wealthy are likely to stash
the
cash in one of the banks hoarding their government-bailout
money.
Obama gave over the drafting of the stimulus bill
to Pelosi. If ever there was an instance to trust but verify, this was
it.
Did anybody flyspeck Pelosi’s first draft, the
one that provided Republicans such irresistible targets as condoms.
The so-called pork was trivial, but it hurt a
$246 million grant to the movie industry because nothing associated with
Hollywood had a chance after Pelosi squandered
her credibility on a $188,000 lobster-cam for the bottom of the ocean.
While still taking the “long view” and being
“optimistic” about everyone getting along, Obama added,’’ “That doesn’t
mean I’m a sap.”
After openly whoring for Obama, after a summer of vicious lies about
Hillary, the Carlson whore has now
turned on Obama and is heaping praise on Hillary. I'm disgusted
by this turncoat and you should be, too.
Do you think Obama had any idea his legions of worshippers would turn
on him this quick and this hard?

And if you run for congress, please run as a rethug because we don't

Amazing how Dem’s are tiptoeing around investigating
the previous corrupt administration.
Guess they forgot about the public lynching of
Clinton by the Repub’s.
If this were the other way around, Dem’s would
already be convicted, sentenced and serving time!
How soon they forget. I’m constantly amazed at
how gutless my Party is!

Excerpt: From October 2003 until May 2005, I was illegally
detained by the U.S. government and held in CIA-run "black sites"
with no contact with the outside world. On May
5, 2005, without explanation, my American captors removed me from
my cell and cuffed, hooded, and bundled me onto
a plane that delivered me to Sana'a, Yemen. I was transferred into
the custody of my own government, which held
me -- apparently at the behest of the United States -- until March 27,
2006,
when I was finally released, never once having
faced any terrorism-related charges. Since my release, the U.S. government
has never explained why I was detained and has
blocked all attempts to find out more about my detention.
What I do know is that the Jordanian government
-- after torturing me for several days -- handed me over to a U.S.
"rendition team" in Amman, which then abducted
me, forced me onto a plane, and flew me to Afghanistan. During this,
and several other transfers between CIA prisons,
I was subjected to a brutal and deeply humiliating "preparation" ritual.
I was stripped naked, dressed in a diaper, shackled,
blindfolded and hooded, and then boarded onto a waiting plane.
I was forced into painful positions, often reeling
from the blows and kicks of the men who had "prepared" me for flight.
Bush did not issue any pardons because if he did,
that would have given the pardonees immunity from prosecution,
in which case they could have been subpoenaed
to testify about war crimes (or all other crimes) and they could have
been forced to testify under oath with no 5th
amendment rights available to them.
The refusal to pardon was a device by which Bush
is defending himself against war crimes prosecution.
That's it.
Jack in Salem, Oregon
Anybody remember when they tried to get Nixon
that way?
Ford pardoned Nixon, after saying he wouldn't,
so the idiot Democrats figured
they'd force Nixon to testify because he had
no Fourth Amendment to hide behind.
Nixon can up with the phebilis
defense and it worked perfectly - no testimony.
Can anyone think of a time when the Democrats
actually got something right?
Excerpt Obama is already back-tracking on some of his
high-road campaign stands and is copying some of Bush's dubious policies.
Obama has invoked the controversial state secrets
act in the case of Ethiopian Binyam Mohamed, and four other detainees.
They claimed they were victims of the Bush administration's
rendition program under which terrorism suspects were secretly
taken to other countries where, they say, they
were tortured. Bush's position has been that the case should be dismissed
because even courtroom discussion of their treatment
could threaten national security.
When the case was heard earlier this month before
a panel of judges, the Obama administration made the same argument.
One judge asked the Justice Department lawyer
if the change in administrations had any bearing on the case.
"No, your honor," came the reply. According
to The New York Whore Times, "even the judges on the panel
seemed surprised by the administration's decision
to go forward" with the same argument.
That's not "change," the theme of the Obama presidential
election campaign. It's more of the same.
Can we get a reporter to ask Obama about this
on live TV?
People who live in Manhattan pay A LOT MORE than
$400,000, and often for A LOT LESS than 1,000 square feet.
To them, it's not about the space. It's
about the location, and the amenities. Many Manhattanites
REMOVE THE KITCHEN from their studio apartments
because it will never be used.
People who live in single-family homes in suburbs
are interested in what's in their backyard
and inside their house and their car.
People who live in urban areas are interested
in things that are outside their apartments, like museums or
performing arts in bad weather. In the
nice weather, they're interested in parks, and street fairs, and concerts
in
the park. In other words, people in cities
appreciate what BIG GOVERNMENT does for them, like museums
and subways and snow removal.
People who live in suburbs are interested in TAX
CUTS, like property tax cuts and income tax cuts
and all kinds of tax cuts, so they can buy bigger
houses and cars.
People who live in cities know that PEOPLE WITH
GUNS are a lot bigger danger to them than
whatever it is the PEOPLE WITH GUNS are frightened
of.
I'm perfectly willing to take my chances with
the wildlife in the National Parks.
I'm more afraid of you and your Glock firing
all over the damn place.
Best regards.

Just to put everything in perspective for you.
I live in Cambridge MA, too. I make @ $33,000
a year.
I have the lowest rent of anyone I know: $1,450
a month.
With loans, and debts, I barely have money for
food. All my money not for rent goes to heat in the winter.
Median prince of a house is $750,000 (that seems
low)
condominiums, $405,000 (very small 2 bedroom maybe,
nothing special)
A real, intact house with a little yard would
be @1.25 million. No driveway, park on the street.
I can see one that went for that right across
from my work and that was the price 2-3 years ago.
So it would be more now.
The price of houses have gone up in the last year
in Cambridge, while the rest of the country has tanked.
I have no credit, thanks to student loans and
credit cards and bad roommates
and my IRA was wiped out by the stock market
crash.
I might be able to retire -- in 20 years, by
age 78.
But where will I be able to afford to live in
just 5-10 years?
I'm thinking Mexico or... I don't have a clue.
markk
This is why the contrasts interests me.
Mark, if you lived in Tulsa, you'd have an extra
million or 1.5 million in the bank.
Why do people choose to live penniless is a great
location?
This started, I think, in 1983 when we went to Hollywood.
Our house was bigger than John Wayne's, bigger than Jack Benny's,
and we were making $575 payments on a $51K house.
Sure, there houses were million dollar houses but they were the same
size as my house.
A year or two ago I did the math.
You'll spend an
extra $1.5 buying my house on either coast.
Why do tens of millions of people pass up that extra $1.5M?
So they can say they live in NY or San Fran or LA or Miami?
If you habe an extra million, you could vacation in each
of those cities yearly just using the interest on $1.5 million in the bank so what am I missing?
Excerpt: Back in 1995, it was already apparent that the
mainstream U.S. press corps was beyond reform.
The corporate media had, in effect, merged with
the growing right-wing media in overplaying the “Clinton scandals.”
The endless Clinton bashing...
Seriously? Bob Parry has a complaint about the "endless
Clinton bashing?" Seriously? Who ran consortiumnews this summer when it
was a non-stop orgy of false Clinton accusations? Who ran consortiumnews when they were in their
ghastly "I can read Hillary's mind"
period? Last summer, Bob Parry turned into Maureen
Dowd and Andrew Sullivan (not a compliment) and now he has a compalint about the "endless
Clinton bashing?" Seriously?
...was followed by a deep hostility toward the
presidential candidacy of Al Gore
and a fondness for the prospect that George W.
Bush would put “the adults” back in charge. Then, under Bush,
mainstream and right-wing news outlets marched
pretty much in lockstep into the Iraq War.
Eventually, Bush’s disastrous policies – and his
growing unpopularity with the American people – frayed this
coalition of mainstream and right-wing media,
but the dynamic has reemerged during the early weeks of Obama’s
presidency with much of the mainstream press
again aligning with the Right.
"I can run this organization just fine. There
will be no deputy chairman, period...People who said I can't make the trains run on time never gave
a reason. I say to them, 'Stuff it.' I am not afraid of being held accountable for my leadership.
The idea I am somehow going to handicap myself before I begin is nuts. I am not going to buy into
this mind-set among a few people who probably have never run anything but their mouths."

the truck up, Link
Okay not a real single family house but it is
just up the street.
Seriously a house like mine ain’t $400K anymore.
It’s between $200K and $300K for a five bedroom house
that used to belong to one of Summa Corp’s executives.
These were the top executives of Howard Hughes’
gaming corporation that used to run/own Las Vegas.
I’ll pass at living in Okie land.
Sure you can own a lot of land but it’s in Oklahoma!
zenferret
I get that Oklahoma's not America's greatest place
to live, but a young struggling couple
would really rather pay an extra million or more
to avoid living here?
Guess what - when you're inside your house you can't really tell where
you live.
It's not like some unfathomable stench hangs over the city and that's
why homes are so cheap.
If Mrs Bart did all the shopping and the errands, I could pretend we
lived in Sausolito.
We get the same cable TV you get, same internet, so we're haggling
over the weather and the
knuckledragging factor of the people, but really, you can afford to
pay $1.5 million to avoid them?
All power to you, Bart, but I'm just wondering
about an inconsistency here:
You deride the Repubs for spreading fear, but...
you use similar arguments
about how people should have guns, just in case...
Geoff
Fear doesn't come in just one size in just one package.
Are you saying there's no crime in America?
The Bush bastards were talking "mushroom clouds" if they didn't get
to tear up the Constitution.
*I* am not asking America to do anything but leave me and my guns alone.

Excerpt: South Carolina poker players are in legal limbo
after a judge ruled Thursday that Texas Hold 'em is a game of skill.
What Judge Larry Duffy didn't decide is
whether that determination matters under an 1802 South Carolina law that,
read literally, makes any game with cards or
dice - including popular board games such as Monopoly and Sorry - illegal.
State Attorney General Henry McMaster says his
office has adopted a looser interpretation that only considers games
more reliant on chance than on a player's skill
- including Texas Hold 'em, a popular type of poker - to be gambling and
therefore illegal. Dozens of other states have
similar laws.
Not sure if it's true, but years ago in Tulsa
they ruled that Foosball was a game of chance.
To prove it wasn't, some expert players challenged
the District Attpryney to play a few games.
Of course, he got smoked 5-0 every game and therefore
was forced to change his mind.
If some Carolina idiot thinks poker is all luck,
he should play a few games with the pros.

Excerpt: In one sense, Obama asked for it. Because most
Americans manage to get along with friends and neighbors of the
opposite party, he took office uttering bromides
about compromising with the fine "folks" who run the GOP. Indeed,
his stimulus package, which contains arguably
the largest single-year tax cut in American history, was deliberately crafted
to appeal to Republicans who recognize the gravity
of the economic situation.
All three of them. If the first month of Obama's
presidency has made anything clear, it's that today's Republicans don't
do reality. Instead, they heed Rush Limbaugh
and other feverish ideologues re-fighting the battles of the 1930s. Last
week
I read a column by a college professor expressing
amazement that "FDR managed to get re-elected in 1936 despite no
appreciable improvement in economic conditions."
In fact, history records that the U.S. economy
grew by an average of 13 percent each year during FDR's first term,
while unemployment dropped at a rate of four
percent a year. If President Obama could pull that off-somewhere
between highly unlikely and downright impossible-he
might do almost as well in 2012 as FDR did in 1936,
when Republican nominee Alf Landon won exactly
two states.
