Subject: Using Jesus to make political points
It's interesting to see Republicans running ads
against the recovery act saying that if we spent a million dollars
a day since Jesus was born that it would be less
spending than what Obama is spending. The same argument
would apply to the Iraq war or the tax cuts for
the rich. In fact it would be closer to 10 million a day to pay for
the combined deficits under Republican presidents.
Republicans apparently think Christians are suckers and that
if you use "Jesus" then people will accept it
without thinking it through.
But what offends me more is that they used the
name of Jesus to take a cheap and deceptive political shot.
Even as an Atheist I find it offensive that if
you really believe in Jesus that you would defile him by using his name
as part of a deception. It sends a message to
Atheists like myself that believers don't really believe in Jesus,
And that if you don't really believe in Jesus
then why should I?

Hard to believe, Bartcop, but some people can't
afford to move away.
They were born there with all of their families.
How can you tell a guy who doesn't have
very transferable skills to move from a place
where they have at least a roof to some place
where they have no contacts and no support system?.
How can I tell a guy that rent is 80% cheaper in the Midwest?
All of a sudden we are getting the blame game
put on homeowners losing their homes,
calling them "speculators" and "flippers" instead
of the truth, which is millions have
lost their jobs and their homes.

if you live in Manhattan's Upper West Side,

to get by.
If you live in Tulsa, you need about $30,000.
I'm just pointing out that that's weird.

Hey Bart,

I live in Asheville, NC and I’m sitting in my
house right now and you couldn’t mistake anywhere else for where I now

When I look above my monitor I’m looking out

to Cold Mountain (among a great many others)
on the other side.
But I think the point is really more about all
the hours that most of us hopefully spend outside our houses. Yesterday
was
not an atypical day for me. I woke up and
drove one hour to fly fish in the Smoky Mountain National Park. After
I came home,
I drove 5 minutes to meet friends (intelligent,
happy, liberals of which the town is mostly composed) for a fantastic dinner
at one
of many fantastic restaurants. Then I walked
a couple blocks to see great live music like I do about 4 nights a week.
Where you live can really be more important than
what you live in. Almost time for a cocktail on the deck to watch
the sunset…

Nigel Haskett was working at a McDonald's in Little
Rock last summer when he saw Perry Kennon
hitting a woman in the face. Haskett tackled
Kennon, threw him out, but then was shot multiple times.
As a result of that act of heroism, Haskett has
had multiple operations, and faces a $300,000 medical bill.
He was an employee of the McDonald's; he was
at work. He wasn't involved in the altercation initially.
He did come to the aid of the female that was
involved in the disturbance.
Misty Thompson, a rep of the administrator for McDonald's workers compensation plan said:

surrounding towns. Stay away from the tourist
areas near Chautauqua Lake and Lake Erie. We have a house that's a little
over
1800 square feet, on a corner lot with a 2 car
garage that costs us less that $40000 and the monthly payment including
taxes and insurance is less than $400.
This is in southwestern New York state. The property
taxes are high and the lake-effect snow
will drive you crazy, some winters are worse
that others, but if you like skiing or other winter activities
it would be great, plus there's the lakes in
the summer.

Oh, Chrissie! How could you?
We saw The Pretenders in 2007, I
think, backing up ZZ Top in St. Louis.
Great show, lots of hard rocking from both bands.
But now it's 2009 and something's gone very wrong.
Even before they took the stage last night in
Tulsa, I knew something was wrong.
The four piece band was now a five piece - and
the fifth member plays steel guitar.
Yes, the horribly bad news is The Pretenders
now have a country tilt.
They did 4-5 outright country songs and that's
NOT what I paid to see.
They did a Orange Blossom Special-type song that
had some impressive guitar,
but if I wanted to see Roy Clark play guitar
I would buy Roy Clark tickets.
Then, when they did the old hits, I heard twanging
and I f-ing hate twanging.
We were even in a good mood, stopping at Mexical
Border Cafe before the show.
Nothing like some Mexican food and some tequila
to get ready for a rock n roll show.
I thought we had a total disaster on our hands
when the band left for the encores
because their music was about half-country and
half what-we-paid-to-see.
But they came out and did 2 hard rock songs for
encores and saved the night.
How bad was it?
It almost put me off going to concerts.
Right now, I'm thinking if it's not Zeppelin, U2 or
Garbage,
I'm not sure I'm willing to part with my money just to be disappointed.
Hell, two of those bands don't currently exist - how sad is that?

Mrs. Bart liked it, but then, this was her first night out since "the
troubles" started.
After 70 days under pressure, she was ready to relax and have a good
time but I
expected a rock show by a founding pillar of punk, not a country hootenanny.

I'm all for live and let live BUT don't tell
me what I can or can't do to make me and mine feel safe. I live in
a SMALL town.
I like it that way.....we have no cop,
I LIKE it that way. If there is ever any trouble the sheriff's deputies
are likely several
minutes away my pistol is seconds away.
I don't think its the Govt's business what a woman
does with her body and I don't think is anybody's business what is on my
person,
in my car or house that I legally own to protect
what I hold near and dear. This issue gets dems handed their ass
again and again
because they are seen as the backboneless pushovers
they are by a lot of people than don't pay much attention to politics.
Don't even get me started on the "Well you don't
need an x or y for hunting," show me where in the 2nd amendment if says
ONE word about hunting. Sorry to go on
about this but I don't think many smart well intentioned people will ever
understand
how this issue shuts the door to the rest of
the progressive policies.
