"We now live in a land where obfuscation of
fact is the norm and where the loudest mouth
gets the most attention even if there are no facts
in that mouth. And then Dems roll over and expose their

"Once upon a time, the Senate was a shining
beacon of at least semi-intelligent discourse -- living, breathing, debating proof of the success of America's
experiment in democracy. It was Rome, when Rome was in its heyday. These days it's more like Rome right before
the fall of the empire -- brimming with arrogance, stupidity, influence-peddling and near-constant partisan hackery, and overrun
by self-serving clowns drunk on their own grandiose sense of importance and always on the lookout for the next illicit
sexual encounter." --Chez Pazienza

I don't know Chaz but if we ever meet, I'll
buy the first shot of Chinaco.
That's what I call plain talk and listing
the facts.
While I agree with most of the sentiments of that
letter, the title bothers me greatly.
The statement 'morality isn't profitable' is
a perfect example of why the Democrats are losing on health care.
Morality IS profitable, and good deeds are their
own rewards. If you educate a person
and see that they are healthy, then they become
increasingly productive members of society,
which enriches us all, both morally and monetarily.
An ignorant, chronically sick person is a
drag on us all, morally and monetarily.
It REALLY is that simple.
A longtime fan,
Poltergeist
Perhaps the message was the Bush bastards proved
crime pays.
They never worked a day in their lives and they're
sure to die old and rich.
Excerpt: Bill Clinton says "those in his party" should
ignore any grief from Republicans on health care reform,
because the GOP is just waiting for Democrats
to "mess up."
Clinton said Dems should put together the best
health care measure for Obama, even if it must be fixed later.
"All we have to worry about is getting things
done and doing them as well as we can," Clinton said.
"Don't even worry about the Republicans. Let
them figure out what they're going to stand for.
'Cause as long as they're sitting around waiting
for us to mess up, they don't have a chance."
Unlike his failed effort to revamp health care
in the mid-1990s,
Objection! Who failed to get health care passed back then?
It was the scared-rabbit Democrats who abandoned
Clinton when the GOP said
"Boo!"
Clinton said he believes Obama will overhaul the
system.
Comparing Obama's busy first year in office to
his own, Clinton said,
"It's going to have a different ending – he's
going to get health care reform."
"Poor Obama. He came to town preaching the
religion of nice. But every time he bows politely, the harder the Republicans kick him.
No one's ever conquered Washington politics by constantly saying "pretty please" to the guys
trying to cut your throat."
-- Bill Moyers, who sounds like he agrees, Link
In your current "web page" you made this statement......
> Over the years it's been suggested that I
should sometimes write under another name, > perhaps in an attempt to gain "journalistic
credibility."
If you had read at least some of the thousands
of e-mails I send you each week, you would have remembered
that I suspect that you are really Rush Limbaugh,
writing under the guise of this "Bartcop" character. With one hand
tied behind you back (or down your shorts), you
are able to sit in your comfortable Palm Beach mansion and spew
your right wing sludge over the radio everyday
and then slink off to your land of make believe, Oklahoma, and produce
a left wing website, perfectly debunking everything
you just said on the radio.
My proof is that you claim to live in Oklahoma.
Who on God's green Earth would live in a place
like that?
Please, Rush....my mother only had one stupid
kid and she can't type.
I must admit it was a perfect plan but I saw thru
it years ago.
My only advice would be to save some of the jokes
from the radio show and use them on the website.
"Rush" is so much funnier.
Thank you for your time.
Rude Rich
P.S. Neither one of you has any "journalistic
credibility."
So you think it was Rush Limbaugh who kicked your
never-won-a-game ass in pool back in 2002 in Washington DC?
Excerpt: We are still more than two months removed from
the following events. But, based on the reaction among some hysterical
members of the public to Barack Obama's desire
to address the nation's schoolchildren, I feel reasonably secure in my
predictions.
As Thanksgiving approaches, Obama will be called
upon to pardon the Thanksgiving turkey. People will forget that a number
of
prior Presidents did this before. A new hysteria
will enter the national consciousness: that Obama is against Thanksgiving...
This idiotic and delusional charge will enter
the national dialogue at some point in our near future.
It is lurching toward us like the monster in
some 1940s horror movie.
It may not achieve the prominence as "Obama-the-Manchurean-Candidate"
or "Obama-Wishes-To-Indoctrinate-Our-Children" memes,
but somebody will bring it up, and it will be
covered on television by, among others, networks determined to treat both
halves of the debate
as equally valid. Before long it will not be
a story of extraordinary popular delusions and the madness of crowds, but
a genuine nationwide controversy.
Initiated by total crackpots and then covered
in the same way we cover all crackpots, it will finally repeated at some
point by elected officials.
This, of course, will be sometime after the national
firestorm over Sasha and Malia's Halloween costumes.
Yes, it's probable that Obama will lurch from one "crisis" to another
for the next 70 days.
The whore media LOVES those crazies shouting crazy things.
I know you don't like reading this, but Obama MAY be making that John
Kerry fatal error which is assuming
the American idiots instinctively know when something is false and
stupid, therefore there's no reason to refute it.
You cannot reason with a rabid dog.
It must be caged or shot.
So now people will lose their job for saying the
obvious truth about 9-11?
Talk about a chilling effect on free speech.
I thought Obama was supposed to defend
the bill of rights.
Excerpt: God knows, when it comes to progressives fighting
back against right wing smear campaigns, low expectations are generally
in order.
So I’ll probably be proven wrong here.
Still, I honestly believe that the far right (and
their media enablers) may finally have gone too far by pushing this Obama
school speech insanity.
And I’m not simply talking about them turning
off independents. That kayak sailed oodles ago anyway. No, this time they’ve
done something
more than that - something nearly impossible
to do: they’ve finally pissed off the broader progressive community (as
opposed to just the netroots)
badly enough that we may start doing something
more than just bitching about it. We may actually start to fight back and
ultimately kick their
sorry butts all the way back into the Jurassic
Age (they’re already in the Stone Age).
Yes, of course, there have been much bigger things
to get angry about. There is, however, something about this particular
bit of insanity
- the total inanity and plain racism of it -
that’s stirring the blood of progressive Democrats like nothing else has.
Even those of us who
are growing impatient with Obama feel the fire
in our guts.
What is being done here is simply evil. There’s
no other way to say it. These bastards lost the election, but instead of
accepting the will of
the majority, they are doing everything in their
power to delegitimize the president. And the corporate media, which long
ago surrendered its
collective soul to Mickey Mouse and other God’s
of Wall Street, is more than happy to play along. Yes, just like they did
with Bill Clinton.
Steven C. Day is an optimist.
The whore networks will NEVER ease up on these
screaming loons.
"Can you
hear us?"
"We hate
health care and niggers!"
The whore networks don't exist to make America better - they exist to
generate cash
and as long as those loons are screaming, "Obama
wants to kill Trigg," they're going to cover it.
The constant attacks on Obama will stop the day racism dies.
The Mexican government allows 5 grams of pot?
I'm so old, I remember when that wasn't even
enough to get high -- have they made stronger pot since then?
Russ
Russ, I'm sure *I* wouldn't know :)
A gram is probably enough for a joint and if the pot's good you can
probably get where you need to go on a joint so that's 5 good buzzes.
But, what if you're on a week's vacation to Acapulco?
Five grams won't float the boat.
"Remember when the Bush bastards made it ILLEGAL
to seek lower prices on prescriptions? You'd think somebody on the Left would
mention that's what Obama's trying to fix." --
Bartcop, pissed that most Democrats have an IQ of less than 64
It's probably for the best that right-wingers
kept their children from hearing Obama's speech.
Since they believe their children are such mush-brains
that a 15 minute speech could turn them into Communists,
god knows what would have happened if they had
been indoctrinated with personal responsibility, good study habits, and
the like.
Interesting that in all this uproar no one seems
to have mentioned Poppy Bush telling school children to
send dollars to help the school children in Afghanistan.
That sure sounds like injecting politics into schools.
If only the Democrats would list the damn facts,
Grower
Why is Obama spending time talking to school kids?
Doesn't he have two wars and a broken economy
to work on? And health care?
Not to mention his presidency is in grave danger.
I've used the burning home metaphor.
Is Obama waiting for his room to catch fire before he acts?
"What Obama needs is a Fuck You czar.
Any time Glenn Beck or Hannity has a problem with someone in his administration
Obama could say, 'Hey, talk to my Fuck You czar.' " -- Marc
Perkel
I think you're saying "ignore the facts."
Never in my life have I seen the GOP go to bat
for a Democrat in the primaries.
He's a Black man and the most liberal
senator and they praised him all last summer.
...and you don't think that fight was fixed?
If the primary was "fixed" it was "fixed by Mark
Penn, who didn't realize that california's delegates
were not proportionally distributed based on
the vote totals (as are the republican primaries)
Clinton shot herself in the foot when she hired
Mark Penn.
Her bid ended before it began.
Jaskelin
You can say that, but that doesn't make it true.
I say her bid ended the day America found out the Clintons were "racists."
Tell me - are you OK with Obama's performance as of late?
Excerpt: In an excerpt from his new book Republican Gomorrah,
Max Blumenthal examines the radical beliefs
about witchcraft and the “serpent seed” that
propelled Sarah Palin into politics.
Prior to her nomination for vice president, Gov.
Sarah Palin listed her home phone number in Alaska’s Yellow Pages.
She was known to spend hours in her local Wal-mart
chatting with constituents. When I traveled to Alaska’s Mat-Su Valley,
nearly every politically active resident I spoke
to had met the governor on at least one occasion. But many of Palin’s acquaintances,
admirers and critics alike, described her in
a dramatically different light from that in which she presented herself
to the American public.
To those who knew Palin, she was no ordinary hockey
mom, but rather an evangelical foot soldier who spearheaded the
(conservative Christian) movement’s takeover
of local government. Her power base was the Wasilla Assembly of God,
a Pentecostal mega-church where she was baptized
and spent over 20 years as a member."
You mean Sarah Palin is religiously insane?
Who knew?
Does God believe in a higher power?
Of course not, he's God.
Think about God, using his Heavenly computer
to, say, investigate the origin of the universe.
He can find evidence of the Big Bang because
that exists, but he certainly won't find any evidence of
God being involved, so wouldn't He, by
definition, be an atheist? Certainly God's too smart to lie to Himself.
If God doesn't believe in a higher power,
why should you?
When God is facing a big problem, do you
think he prays?
Of course not, he's God. Who in
the hell is he going to pray to?
All God could do is what you and I should
do:
Look at the available facts and study the
evidence and come to a logical conclusion.
Seriously, do you really need angels and
prayers to make good decisions?
Be like God, and forget that higher-power
crappola.
Pat Buchanan wrote Hitler, Churchill, and the
Unnecessary War.
He meticulously compiles many moves that led
to both great wars, and how these may have been avoided.
Of course history is all 20/20 hindsight, but
how long have we learned about the noble Americans who saved
Europe's fat from the fire, twice? History
is written by the winners, and the propaganda bounty never ends.
Our schoolbooks offer one (authorized) version
of the story. Buchanan in a fit of academic courage wrote his
take on history, a take vilified by the right
wingnuts. The foundation of right wing exceptional America is that
WWII
was the good war, when we saved the world form
those natzees and nips. Any heretical story that counters it is
immediately condemned as revisionist history.
Pat Buchanan may be a wingnut, but give his book
a chance, you may change your perception of him.
George Will came out against the Afghanistan
and Iraq occupations, sanity is not exclusive to any one group.
Julian
The way I took Buchanan's comments was like Hitler
was a bankrobber saying,
"I didn't want to pull my gun, but the teller
wouldn't give me any cash unless I did."
I blame the bank robber, Buchanan blames the teller.
Excerpt: What a difference a month makes! When my last
controversial column posted on Salon in the second week of August,
most Democrats seemed frozen in suspended animation,
not daring to criticize the Obama administration's bungling of
healthcare reform lest it give aid and comfort
to the GOP. Well, that ice dam sure broke with a roar. Dissident Democrats
found their voices, and by late August even the
liberal lemmings of the mainstream media, from CBS to CNN, had drastically
altered their tone of reportage, from priggish
disdain of the town hall insurgency to frank admission of serious problems
in the
healthcare bills as well as of Obama's declining
national support.
But this tonic dose of truth-telling may be too
little too late. As an Obama supporter and contributor, I am outraged at
the
slowness with which the standing army of Democratic
consultants and commentators publicly expressed discontent with the
administration's strategic missteps this year.
I suspect there had been private grumbling all along, but the media warhorses
failed
to speak out when they should have -- from week
one after the inauguration, when Obama went flat as a rug in letting Congress
pass that obscenely bloated stimulus package.
Had more Democrats protested, the administration would have felt less arrogantly
emboldened to jam through a cap-and-trade bill
whose costs have made it virtually impossible for an alarmed public to
accept
the gargantuan expenses of national healthcare
reform. (Who is naive enough to believe that Obama's plan would be deficit-neutral?
Or that major cuts could be achieved without
drastic rationing?)"
I don't trust this woman but I'm glad she's hitting
the Fire Alarm.
Can you believe the insanity that has been boiling
up to the surface in the past year?
I guess we have to accept the fact that life
is messy & there will NEVER be an end to the madness.
We just have to keep speaking our version of
"truth" as long as we are compelled to.
Glenn Beck is definitely gunning for the title
of 'The Anti-Bart' from Sean Hannity
Beck is outraged that Van Jones would suggest
'The Government' is evil enough to have any part of 9/11-
but 'The Government' is somehow evil enough to
be harboring Granny-killing Nazi communists!
Anyway, you are really the voice that Obama should
be listening to.
You're the only one crazy & honest enough
to understand how to take on all the nuttiness out there.
Excerpt: Since the United States lost its arch enemy,
the Soviet Union, in 1991, Americans have been at a loss to identify
a general theme that unifies such diverse global
issues as terrorism, poverty, dictatorship, environmental decline,
and nuclear weapons. I suggest that one
such overarching theme is religion. Largely, it's what world and
domestic
affairs have been about in recent decades.
The Republicans need a boogeyman so they can steal more money.
The Soviet Union broke up in 1991 and Clinton was elected the next
year.
Then we had eight years of peace and prosperity and there was a surplus
of money and jobs, remember?
(When's the last time a Democrat reminded people how good we had it
under Clinton.
Oh, wait - they don't do that because half the Democrats hate
the Clintons.)
But the Bush bastards can't make as much money with peace so they stole
power to start two wars and steal oil.
Now America is broken, as is our military and the world economy, but
boy, the Bush bastards did GREAT!
Bottom line, they have to have a boogeyman so people stay afraid and
agree give up their freedoms.
Russia, Al Qaeda, the Devil - anybody who can scare the weak and the
stupid works for them.
"I always figured that once they shook off
their initial shock, the Right would be coming after Obama every day with everything they had in Lee Atwater and
Karl Rove's vast and toxic bad of tricks. That unless he broke them and brought them to heel early and and firmly,
the Right's relentless, berserker attacks on Obama would make the Clinton Years seem positively Coolidge-y.
What pisses me off is - no one seems to have pointed out..." -- driftglass,

I assume tonight we'll learn if Obama knows
he in trouble.
If he comes out and delivers the same old
"Let's

speech,
it will tell us he sees nothing going wrong
and that might signal the beginning of the end.
But if he comes out breathing fire and tells

he still might save his presidency.
