"Central planning and control didn't work well
for the Soviet Union. And it isn't working for American health care, either.
That's a pretty dramatic indictment. But it's true. -- Blue Dog Ass Rep. Jim Marshall
(D-GA)

Pure horseshit.
Central planning and control works great
for Wal-Mart, Boeing, IBM, Microsteal, McDonald's and the Pentagon.
Excerpt: There have always been two basic arguments for
health insurance reform: one based in morality, the other self-interest.
For a documented 45,000 persons to die prematurely
in America each year because they can't afford proper care is a
national disgrace. Almost everybody apart from
"conservatives" whose moral imagination is limited to judging other
people's sex lives understands that.
The current cruel, wasteful system is indefensible.
Surely that's why almost three-quarters of physicians polled by the
New England Journal of Medicine favor genuine
reform. About 63 percent of doctors surveyed nationwide support
a public option; 10 percent would prefer a single-payer
system, basically Medicare for everybody.
For all the hullabaloo, it appears alarmist rhetoric
hasn't scared ordinary people as much as it has cable TV anchors.
A Bloomberg poll asked which right-wing objections
people found legitimate, and which were "scare tactics." Basically,
voters rejected GOP rhetoric almost 2-to-1. About
63 percent think Sarah Palin's "death panels" are a distortion,
versus 30 percent who fear them. It's 61 to 33
percent on the claim that health reform means government-paid abortions,
58 to 37 percent on the false claim that illegal
aliens will get subsidized insurance, etc.
In short, hardcore opposition is mainly confined
to the Republican "base," itself increasingly confined to the South.
Why has Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, started
making conciliatory noises? Consider these remarkable statistics:
Voters in the Northeast overwhelmingly dislike
congressional Republicans. The party's favorability rating there is a
minuscule 7, yes 7, percent. Moreover, it's a
paltry 13 percent in the Midwest; 14 percent in the West.
Only in the South is the GOP politically relevant,
with a 50 to 37 percent advantage over Democrats.
"No one. It's all the same old guys who were
in leadership with me, and those old guys aren't the leaders
the party needs." --

Excerpt: The Obama revolution, and there was the hope
of one, might still succeed. But only if Obama follows the model
of the incredibly successful Reagan revolution
and heeds the political base that made his presidency possible.
Love him or not, Ronald Reagan had at least one
outstanding political virtue - his respect for the concerns of those
who placed their trust in him. And whenever the
political vultures that feast on power tried to lead him astray,
they were fired at the insistence of Reagan or
his remarkably savvy wife, Nancy. Hopefully Obama and his
no-less-impressive mate, Michelle, will do the
same.
The first obligation of Obama as president is
to be a peacemaker, since he as a candidate seized that mantle,
successfully exploiting his early opposition
to the Iraq war, which his closest rival, Hillary, had supported.
Obama, as opposed to her flirtations with
U.S. imperial arrogance, has stuck to a vision of a complex
multipolar world in which the military option
is to be chosen only as a last resort.
Robert Sheer forgot to mention that Hillary is a racist, too.
Excerpt: Only 3
of 763 "sneak-and-peek" requests in 2008 involved terrorism cases, according to a July 2009 report from the Administrative
Office of the U.S. Courts.
This authority here on the sneak-and-peek side,
on the criminal side, is not meant for intelligence.
It's for criminal cases. So I guess it's not
surprising to me that it applies in drug cases," Kris said.
"As I recall it was in something called the USA
PATRIOT Act," Feingold quipped, "which was passed in a rush
after an attack on 9/11 that had to do with terrorism
it didn't have to do with regular, run-of-the-mill criminal cases.
Let me tell you why I'm concerned about these
numbers: That's not how this was sold to the American people.
It was sold as stated on DoJ's website in 2005
as being necessary - quote - to conduct investigations without tipping
off terrorists."
Kris responded by saying that some courts had
already granted the Justice Department authority to conduct sneak-and-peeks.
But Feingold countered that the PATRIOT Act codified
and expanded that authority -- all under the guise of the war on terror.
Feingold, the lone vote against the PATRIOT Act
when it was first passed, is introducing an amendment to curb its reach.
"It's quite extraordinary to grant government
agents the statutory authority to secretly break into Americans homes,"
he said.
So the Patriot Act is NOT being used to spy on terrorists - it's
being used to spy on us.
Why is Obama allowing this to happen?
It seems that very, very often, he's walking in Bush's footsteps.

Excerpt: Obama is wise to give a pass to the likes of
Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh. That is not, however, what they deserve.
The behavior of those media provocateurs over
the past few months is almost beyond parody. They call the president a
racist,
even though there is no evidence of prejudice
on his part and much evidence to the contrary. They demand that nobody
should
ever point out racial prejudice, but spend hours
on the airwaves making false claims of bias against whites. And they whine
constantly about being called racists, even though
the president has never made that accusation against them.
“You can’t get your agenda,” protested Beck the
other day, speaking of the president, “so you unleash the hounds and point
the fingers, and everybody is a racist.” That
was around the same time Obama’s spokesman said quite emphatically that
the
president does not believe his opponents are
motivated by racism.
But since Beck and Limbaugh seem to be obsessed
with this touchy subject, let’s examine their record.
It turns out that both established their keen
racial sensitivity on air long ago.
Doyle has a funny story about one night he and
some fellow players were returning home
from a regular fleecing of oilmen and ranchers
with more dollars than sense. The buddies stopped
for ice cream at their usual place.
The boys knew the sole operator/proprietor by name and were
friendly and safe there. They left
a paper lunch sack with $30K on the picnic table they ate at.
Returning an hour later for the money, the proprietor
meet them with the sack and told them not to return.
He didn't want blood money (see Annie Duke) in
his register it seems.
Annie Duke brightens any poker tournament with
her habitual smile and good humor. I've seen her with
12 chips and with 12 racks of chips, she never
lets the little stuff get her down. After all, It's not your
life
or your wife, it's only a game. She
far surpassed the field of celebrities on Trump's show. She
was chided
by a team mate when she offhandedly called the
gathering of funds a game. This is for charity Annie was told,
as if charity softball lost it's game designation
when funds are contributed. The object is to collect funds
and
the winner is easily tabulated. Joan
Rivers, in one of her rages called the Annie funds "blood money."
Most tournament money comes from folks that are
happy to spend $5K-$50K just to sit with the champs.
Better that charity receives the money than coke
cartels or the RNC.
"Obama is ruining my self-esteem. It's two
days in a row, now, that I'm feeling really small.
ha ha I'm feeling worthless. I'm feeling
like I have no purpose and no meaning to my life, and it's all because
of Obama." -- Rush the vulgar Pigboy
Rush, you really feeling that bad?
If I mailed you a Glock, would you do the right thing?
It's always fun hear a dumb rich pig with the
best health care money can buy lecturing others
about how good uninsured, unemployed sick people
have it. Apparently they've got it SO good
that we shouldn't change anything at all.
It's amazing how many people think they're listening
to great conservatives when they're
actually listening to the top 5% of wage earners
as they tell the bottom 95% to go fuck themselves.
Kris the Cooler
"You could get on the eBay and bid on having
dinner with Sarah Palin. Did you know that? Yep, you could bid on it. And the winning
bid was $63,000. You get to sit down and have dinner. It's the most expensive date with a
governor since Eliot Spitzer." -- Letterman
Bart, why doesn't Glenn Beck deny these allegations?
Is that racist prick hiding something?
Is he teaching his children how to canalbilize
raped and murdered teenagers?
Why doesn’t he want to talk about the allegations
that he is a murderer, rapist,
and that he teaches his children to canalbilize
young teenage girls?

"Congressman Joe ("You lie!") Wilson is undoubtedly
not completely ignorant about how our health care system actually works. After all, in the course of
his career, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, he's received $244,196 in contributions from the health-care
profession -- and that doesn't even count another $86,150 from the pharmaceutical industry or the $68,000 that
came in from hospitals and nursing homes. In fact, if you go to the page at that organization's OpenSecrets.org website
on Congressional contributions and start clicking around among the members of Congress, you'll be struck by how
many times the health and pharmaceutical industries (and their lobbyists)
pop up. --

Excerpt: Now we know why Glenn Beck hates Van Jones so
much: Fox News' ad revenue from Beck's show
has been cut in half since Color of Change launched
an advertiser boycott against the show.
Color of Change, the advocacy organization co-founded
by Glenn Beck's archnemesis Jones, began calling on
advertisers to pull their ads from Beck's show
in early August, shortly after Beck accused Obama of having a
"deep-seated hatred for white people." Since
then, 62 advertisers—from Geico to Proctor & Gamble to
Men's Wearhouse—have pulled their ads from his
show even as his ratings surged.
Fox's stock response to the boycott has been that,
while some advertisers may have moved their spots to
other shows on the network, no one was pulling
ads from Fox outright, so the whole hubbub wasn't affecting
the network's revenues. But today, citing "data
analyzed from industry sources," Color of Change announced
in a release that Beck's weekly ad revenue dropped
from $1,060,000 in the first week of August, when the
boycott began, to $492,000 in the first week
of September. The chart above shows the drop.

Excerpt: As evidence of the link between health care and
racial attitudes, we analyzed survey data gathered in late 2008.
The survey asked people whether they favored
a government run health insurance plan, a system like we have now,
or something in between. It also asked four questions
about how people feel about blacks.
Taken together the four items form a measure
of what scholars call racial resentment. We find an extraordinarily
strong correlation between racial resentment
of blacks and opposition to health care reform.
Among whites with above average racial resentment,
only 19 percent favored fundamental health care reforms and
57 percent favored the present system. Among
those who have below average racial resentment, more than twice
as many (45 percent) favored government run health
care and less than half as many (25 percent) favored the status quo.
No such relationship between racial attitudes
and opinions on health care existed in the mid-1990s during the Clinton
effort.
Is that why the GOP and the Blue Dogs are fighting this so hard?
Because they're afraid "those people" might benefit?

"It's for the most part a good thing that Obama
is coolly analytical and a consensus builder. But what we've seen in his first nine

Excerpt: Glenn Beck raped and murdered a girl in 1990.
I know it’s just an internet rumor, but once again the allegation
has been stated, and yet again no denial from
Glenn Beck. Hmmm.... At first I didn't think there was anything to it,
but now I'm beginning to wonder. Some people
are saying that Glenn Beck's silence on this issue is proof of his guilt.
Of course, I'm not saying that, but I am wondering
why these people would say that. I’m not surprised. Reports suggest
that Glenn Beck may have raped and murdered a
little blonde girl - somebody's beautiful, innocent daughter - in 1990,
seem plausible on it’s face. I can't even begin
to imagine what that depraved bastard might have done to her. But so far
Glenn Beck has been silent on the issue. When
will he face these allegations? What is he scared of?
