"Clinton recounted that he once pulled
aside Alan Simpson, the senior Republican senator, to ask him whether he really believed that the
president had done something terrible in Whitewater. Simpson's response: "Oh, hell no. But our goal is to make
people think you did, so we can pay you Democrats back for Iran-contra." -- Taylor Branch, author of

Too bad Democrats can't be counted on to
stand with their president.
Excerpt: If ubiquity were the measure of a presidency,
Obama would already be on Mount Rushmore. But of course it is not.
Despite his many words and television appearances,
our elegant and eloquent president remains more an emblem of change
than an agent of it. He's a man with an endless,
worthy to-do list but, as yet, no boxes checked "done." This is a problem
that style will not fix. Unless Obama learns
to rely less on charm, rhetoric, and good intentions and more on picking
his spots and
winning in political combat, he's not going to
be reelected, let alone enshrined in South Dakota.
The president's problem isn't that he is too visible;
it's the lack of content in what he says in interviews. Obama can seem
a mite
too impressed with his own aura, as if his presence
on the stage is the Answer. There is, at times, a self-referential (even
self-reverential)
tone in his big speeches. They are heavily salted
with the words "I" and "my." (He used the former 11 times in the first
few paragraphs
of his address to the U.N. last week.) Obama
is a historic figure, but that is the beginning, not the end, of the story.
There is only so much political mileage that can
still be had by his reminding the world that he is not George W. Bush.
It was the winning theme of the 2008 campaign,
but that race ended nearly a year ago. The ex-president is now more ex
than ever, yet the current president, who vowed
to look forward, is still reaching back to Bush as bogeyman.
I hate to agree with Howard Fineman, but yes, Obama thinks a speech
always cures everything. When Obama does give a speech, it's always the same damn speech.
That last speech he gave on health care?
He got no bounce at all from that - why did he think he would?
He repeats the same old arguments that haven't worked so far.
He's still trying to reason with insane drunks.
He seems to think (I can only guess) that if he reaches his hand out
to the sons of bitches often enough,
they will eventually shake it instead of biting it for the 200th time
in a row.
"He is very analytical. He is very deliberate
about the way he goes through things. He wants to understand everything.
He delves very deeply into these issues."
-- Def Sec Robert gates, the the difference between Obama and Der Monkey, Link
Excerpt: In recent days, the Washington Whore Post, the
New York Whore Times and other major news outlets have recounted
the "troubled" history of the poor people’s advocacy
group ACORN, but left out the five-year anti-ACORN campaign led
by Karl Rove and other Republican weasels.
Dropped down the memory hole is the fact that
ACORN was at the center of the so-called "prosecutor-gate" scandal,
when the Bush bastards ilegally pressured U.S.
Attorneys to bring indictments over ACORN voter drives and then fired
some prosecutors who resisted what they viewed
as a partisan strategy not supported by solid evidence... On "Face
The Whore,"
Obama downplayed the seriousness of an investigation
authorized last month by AG Eric Holder into several cases where
CIA officers allegedly exceeded Justice Department
guidelines during the interrogations.
"I want to look forward and not backward when
it comes to Bush's crimes,”
Obama said.
"My understanding is it’s not even a criminal
investigation at this point."
I gotta tell you, I'm real sick of hearing Obama
cover for the Bush bastards. If kidnapping, torture and
murder aren't "real" enough crimes to prosecute,
why the fuck to we even have a Justice Department?

Republicans – aided by the giant megaphone of
the right-wing media – continue to keep Democrats on the defensive,
while evidence of Republican guilt gets little
sustained attention except at a handful of Internet sites.
Put another way - why do Democrats refuse to fight?

Excerpt: I think that he rather likes tyrants and dislikes
America. I think he'd like to be more powerful, I think he is trying
to get control over as much of our lives as he
can, so that he can put an end to the annoying tumult of our public life.
As when he said (about health care) to the Congress,
"Okay, you've talked enough, now it's time to do the right thing (my thing)."
And he's trying to end American power in the
outside world. He's saying "I'm going to stop us, before we kill again."
There is nothing unusual about elitist hatred
of freedom...And in modern times, we can all name famous intellectuals
who fawned all over Mussolini, Stalin, Fidel,
and even Hitler.
Leaders are constantly frustrated, and some of
them come to yearn for an end to our freedom. They think they know best,
they just want to tell us what to do and have
us shut up and do it. I think Obama is one of them. He's not naïve.
It's different.
He doesn't like the way things work here, he
thinks he can do much better, and he's possessed of the belief that America
has
done a lot of terrible things in the world, and
should be prevented from doing such things ever again.
"I think what he’s saying is God’s still
up there. We’re going through these cycles... I really believe that a lot of people

gases, anthropogenic gases, are causing global warming. The science really

Just heard #158. Had same thought
as you when that wingnut demonstrator said "that is my question"
a question you say? That isn't even a sentence.
Random tangents of rhetoric spewed in shot gun style
to frag the unaware seem to be somewhat effective.
It gets the righteous (read racist) into the streets
echoing things they don't understand like socialism,
fascism, and choice.
Maybe you can explain if mandatory participation
is constitutional. Thinking about those children who
die of treatable illness because their parents
heard God's voice telling them not to seek medical help.
Children are defenseless against ideology like
that. Mommy said God is calling me, and that's the way it is.
Having insurance doesn't get a baby to the doctor.
Does the choice to die at home negate the separation
of church and state argument?
For me it defines another group to watch out
for. People who cling to their good book
to justify dead relatives, ignorance, and cover
up racism.

Excerpt: Safire went to work for Nixon's first, unsuccessful
presidential bid. He rejoined the Nixon team in 1968,
when Nixon won the White House, and became one
of the administration's top speechwriters.
Perhaps his best-known line in that job was Agnew's
denunciation of journalists as "nattering nabobs of negativism."
But Safire left the administration to join that
nattering club in 1973, when he left the Nixon bastards to join the Whore
Times.
His often-pugnacious voice -- he once denounced
then-first lady Hillary Clinton as a "congenital liar" -- held down the right flank of the Times' op-ed
page for more than three decades.
Well, of course this right-wing loon ran the Whore
Times's Op-Ed page for 30 years.
You can't get a big-time publishing job without
those reich-wing credentials.
But isn't it funny how the sons of bitches twist
history?
Tell me, Mr Safire, how many thousands of soldiers died because of Hillary's
lies?
None, of course, but the bastards always give
their own a pass while attacking the innocent.
Bill Clinton diddled an intern, so he's a bad
man.
The Bush Fuhrer killed a million Iraqi's and
4500 soldiers and he's "a good Christian
man."
Too bad we're in a party that refuses to fight back or even list the
goddamn facts.
All about the 1921 Tulsa Race War and legacy.
I have read about 1/3 of it and it is truly APPALLING!
200-300 blacks murdered in cold blood,
Whole section of city burned to the ground!!!
The entire middle and upper class black section
of the segregated city WIPED OUT!
All over some poor white girl's freak out in
an elevator and a black boy grabbed her arm to help her when the elevator
malfunctioned!!
Horrible horrible! And to date the city
won't even consider reperations!!
I bring this to your attention only because I
know you live in Tulsa and I can't understand
how you can live in a place with such a horrible
legacy! Oh well, you must have your reasons
but it must be the worst place for a progressive
to live.
I've never been there and will continue to avoid
the state!

China has fully embraced Jeffersonian politics.
China doesn’t care who, what or where they do
business with as long as they get what they want/need.
If China’s trading partners enslave their own
populous, so what… it’s not their concern.
China is China’s concern… period.
China has fully embraced world trade, to their
advantage I might add, and they are not looking back.
They pay for all this trade with all the surplus
United States dollars they have in their coffers
… dollars that could of/should of remained in
our own country.
Funny… China goes into a country, with our money,
and they get all they want…
we go into a country with guns and we still don’t
get what we want. Go figure.

Excerpt: It used to be common knowledge that Matt Drudge
ruled the media's world. These days, Drudge must be jealous.
In the past few months, we've seen Drudge's position
as the media's assignment editor filled by Fox crazy Glenn Beck.
Beck has made no bones about his desire to shape
the media's agenda. He's Fox News' Czar War commander in chief,
lead ACORN crusher, resident conspiracy theorist,
and favored "rodeo clown," all wrapped into one.
One would think that the mainstream media would
be wary of covering stories promoted by a man who,
while role-playing as Obama, pretended to pour
gasoline on the "average American" and asked Obama,
"Why don't you just set us on fire?" But one
would be wrong.
Yes, it seems Glenn Beck can even order the president around.

Excerpt: I suppose it's only through force of habit that
we still use the phrase, "right-wing Republicans," which, like "unsolved
mystery"
or "free gift," is a tautological offense against
our mother tongue - a distinctive distinction without a different difference.
I mean,
when was the last time you heard someone refer
to a "left-wing socialist"?
Once upon a time, the "right-wing" portion of
"right-wing Republicans" did have a necessary adjectival meaning. It identified
right-wing Republicans, as well as right-wing
Republicans, in the unmistakable sense that those chaps were indeed but
one wing
of the party, and they were to the right of the
internal others.
That was a time when we occasionally spoke of
liberal Republicans, or, with far more frequency, of moderate Republicans.
But those species, as you know, are long since
virtually extinct; they went the way of the hula hoop and the shiny metallic
grille
and the single-blade safety razor. They suffered
a sustained assault of brutal ideological cleansing; they are, pretty much,
no more.
There are only the right wingers, which, as competitive
slaughter would have it, means they're no "wing" at all. Republicans are
just righties, radically rotten to the core.
Excerpt: Even in Las Vegas, apparently, there are limits.
In July, gaming regulators slapped Planet Hollywood
with a $500,000 fine for its Prive nightclub’s bad behavior,
including “topless and lewd activity’’ and dumping
club-goers in the casino “in various states of consciousness.’’
The same month, the Rio closed its Sapphire topless
pool after authorities arrested 10 people on suspicion of
prostitution and drug crimes. Eight more arrests
on similar charges were made at the Hard Rockl’s pool club, Rehab.
It’s all part of a crackdown by authorities on
what they see as clubs gone wild.
“The quarrel is not, ‘You guys are offering entertainment
that’s going to offend Middle America.’ We all want to
keep Middle America coming to us to have fun,
but we have rules,’’ said Randall Sayre of the Stop the Fun Board.
Although the clubs are reliable moneymakers and
publicity machines, some have vexed officials for their mimicry
of fraternity parties - including stripping contests,
fistfights, and accusations of drug use and sexual assaults.
So stop the fistfights and the sexual assaults.
You reap the benefits of decriminalized prostitution - why not do the
same with harmless drugs?
You're in Vegas, for Christ's sake.
If a girl has a few drinks and takes her top off while a guy lights
a joint in a club, who suffers?
You can call a call girl from your room, but you can't meet her in person
at a club?
Who are we kidding here?
I guess the now and then the Nevada Gaming Conmmission has to get all
Fascist to keep the casinos in line.
I live in northeast Tennesse, near Southwest Virginia
where Paul P wrote from, and I agree.
It really is easy to hear the N word all the

a mix proving that the group transcends age (and state lines).
There were so many attendees that train traffic
following the show was almost three fold, as nearly 20,000 riders
set a record against the typical 7,000 person
flow. Clogged for hours, trips added to the normal run schedule
did nothing to prevent extended waits to get
home.

Excerpt: Let’s consider a side issue here: racism. You
have said this isn’t about racism. I agree. Though I have no doubt
that racism is alive in America, and that racists
are being pushed in a dangerous direction by certain pundits and pols,
I doubt those doing the actual pushing are doing
it because they are racists. No, Mr. President, the truth is far darker,
more vicious and perhaps even more evil than
that. So what is it about?
More than anything it’s about a party and a small,
loudmouth, squeaky wheel movement, whose leaders and pundits
have intentionally left civility, civilized and
rational behavior behind. To them winning is the only thing; winning being
defined only as monopolizing and controlling
the national discourse. And the extreme Right does that very, very well.
If using racists works for against their chosen
target, that’s what they will do.
If claiming to be the victims of racism serves
their purpose they will suddenly insist they are victims too.
