"Prostitutes in Copenhagen have reportedly

Excerpt: I agree with Chris Bowers that in a lot of ways
the real story here is that the Senate leadership has underscored that
a 'reconciliation' path to a health care bill
is off the table. That means Lieberman has unlimited control over what
happens,
and no incentive to compromise, so it shouldn't
surprise anyone that he's being uncompromising...
If reconciliation could be revived, things might
look different. There's a good case for not doing this legislation through
reconciliation. The product that emerged from
the parliamentarian's wringer could be sub-optimal in various ways.
But the product that emerges from Lieberman's
wringer will also be sub-optimal. So given a viable threat of reconciliation,
it seems to me that both sides would have some
incentive to compromise.
I've been saying for years that we need a way to dump asshole Democrats.
If only we could get Obama to use some of that presidential power.

Excerpt: As the GOP has tried hard to give itself a new
face with Michael Steele, the race-baiting commentators still dictate the
agenda.
This week, Rush Limbaugh made a sickening comment
in his attempt to interpret the words of Rev. Jackson, when he said that
the "black frame of mind" is "terrible" and that
"Tiger Woods choice of women sure didn't help it." When three Republican
U.S.
Senators and half a dozen evangelical preachers
do it, why isn't he saying it depresses the white race? Limbaugh's bringing
in Tiger's
infidelity as if it's related to black culture
goes back to an old and deeply evil racist connection of black men and
sexual promiscuity.
To use the image of the black man as the sexual
predator is the oldest form of race baiting, dating back to Emmit Till
and before that,
the slaves on the plantation. Moreover, Rush
is using Tiger as an Obama surrogate, using Tiger as a way to say that
these men cannot
be trusted. Rush knows exactly what he is doing
by being the first to link the plight of the black man to the sorrows of
Tiger Woods.
Rush always idolized Eldrick so he's gotta be
hurting these days.

Excerpt: This is striking: A new poll says one third of
Democrats say that they're 'less likely' to vote in 2010 if Congress
doesn't pass a public option, underscoring the
possibility that dropping the provision seriously risks dampening
the Dem base's enthusiasm...
Obviously, passions over the public option are
on full boil right now. Passage of a health care bill of some kind,
not to say the passage of time, could reduce
the impact that dropping the public option could have on Dem turnout
in the 2010 elections, particularly since they’re
nearly a year away.
But these numbers are a reminder of just how dispirited
the Dem base is by the party’s inability to leverage
their comfortable majority in support of an agenda
built on core liberal priorities.

Excerpt: The White House is encouraging Harry Reid to
cut a deal with Sen. Backstabber, which would mean eliminating
the proposed Medicare expansion in the health
reform bill, according to an official close to the negotiations.
But Reid is described as so frustrated with Lieberman
that he is not ready to sacrifice a key element of the health care bill,
and first wants to see the CBO cost analysis
of the Medicare buy-in. The analysis is expected early this week.
"There is a weariness and a lot of frustration
that one person is holding up the will of 59 others," the official said.
“There is still too much anger and confusion
at Kissyface's reversal."
Lieberman threw health care reform into doubt
Sunday when he told Reid that he would filibuster the bill if it allowed
Americans ages 55 to 64 to purchase coverage
in Medicare. His comments on CBS’s "Face the Nation" set off a series
of private meetings Sunday between the Senate
leadership and top White House aides, including Rahm Emanuel,
who encouraged Reid to cut the deal with Lieberman,
the official said. The White House declined to comment.
Obama should summon Sen Backatabber to the White House and ask him,
"Do you want to be real famous? Do you want
to be real famous for all the wrong reasons?"
He should tell Reid, "Get onboard or take the
blame. You'll be as popular as Chris Brown if you're the bastard who kills health care
for 45 million people. You want that, asshole?"

Excerpt: I love my iPhone. I just wish it were matched
with Verizon Wireless, the carrier that actually works.
Consumer Reports has just released its annual
survey of cellphone service, and its respondents collectively
agree with me about the rankings: AT&T occupies
the bottom and Verizon, the top.
My sense of Verizon’s superiority is confirmed
every time I see a "there’s a map for that" Verizon commercial,
graphically showing how far more extensive Verizon’s
3G network coverage is in less populated areas. And it is
reinforced when AT&T executives publicly
confess that the company’s wireless service in New York and
San Francisco was “below our standards.”
Irony: I bought my damn iPhone after my Sprint phone couldn't get a signal
in goddam Times Square
When I set about looking for independent data,
however, to confirm the superiority of Verizon’s network,
I was astonished to discover that I had managed
to get things exactly wrong. Despite the well-publicized
problems in New York and San Francisco, AT&T
seems to have the superior network nationwide.
Then why does my iPhone work about half the time
in large crowds?
"Obama should recognize that banks aren’t going

understanding exactly how the economy works with respect to small-business

Excerpt: The most glaring and consequential unforced error
came in how Obama framed the health-care reform debate.
The mantra of 'bending the cost curve' was tailor-made
for conservative and moderate intellectuals who preach
the gospel of entitlement reform. If passing
health-care reform were fundamentally about winning over the think tanks,
the green-eyeshade approach might have made sense.
But of course the real goal was to overcome the fear of the large
majority of Americans who are insured and who
deeply, desperately, and sometimes irrationally oppose anything that
would change the status quo...
It is the unforced errors that raise the question
of whether Hillary Clinton was right back in 2008 when she argued that
the White House was no place for 'on-the-job
training.' At the time, Clinton's stinging attacks on Obama's relative
inexperience infuriated
the insurgent candidate's supporters, who damned the Clinton machine for
its
savage bullying. Yet there was an obvious
truth behind Clinton's rhetoric.
