The epic struggle for healthcare reform is entering
its final days in Washington. And the Democrats (being Democrats)
have managed to snatch political suicide from
the jaws of legislative victory. But, I keep thinking, it didn't have to
be this way.
If we had had some real leadership from two key
Democrats named Obama and Reid, we wouldn't be where we are now.

Obama has refused to come to work and Reid is a total failure at everything.
Obama could've used his influence to shape this legislation and he
could've used his
presidential powers to force it thru - but he went on f-ing vacation,
instead - Kerry style.
Democrats have now positioned themselves so that
they will lose politically, no matter what happens in Congress
in the next few weeks. Well, I should qualify
that by saying there's a slim chance for a better outcome than the one
that appears inevitable at this point, but that
chance is rapidly disappearing as the calendar dwindles between now
and the real deadline for a signing ceremony

Everybody understands that these things couldn't
happen. That when it comes to serious scientific endeavor, years of study
and professional apprenticeship are required.
In a word, expertise.
Ex-beauty contestants, drive-time DJs, TV sports
announcers, hairstylists, newspaper columnists -- basically anybody
whose math skills topped out in the 10th grade
-- rarely have anything substantive to add to the sum of technical and
scientific knowledge. That's what they most resent
about it.
It's not impossible that such persons could educate
themselves sufficiently to have an informed opinion, but it's rare.
But once again, the Democrats - with the facts
on their side - can't figure out how to debate.
When the Rethugs say, "the poles are not melting,"
the Democrats say, "I respect your opinion."
If the Dems had half a brain cell between them (should I bother to finish
this sentence?) they could
at least carry this picture around and flash it when they say, "Global
warming is a hoax."
A hundred years ago, Robert Peary discovered the North Pole.
Rethugs would tell you he sailed there in a fucking boat - but he didn't.
This is how Peary got there but today you can take a Carnival
cruise there.
So why can't the idiot Democrats win this argument?

Subject: the Afghan threat
Losing control of the oil pipeline that runs through Afghanistan is the threat.
The power that comes with control of that pipeline
is way above Obama's pay-grade. He's doing what he's told to do.
The only question would be - is Obama an unwitting
stooge... is he a willing participant...
or is he simply caught between a rock and a hard
place? I don't suppose it matters - he's doing what he's told.
The only thing I'm sure of is that he is smart
enough to know what the hell is going on here.
Those are facts that need listing too.
This is more than a compromise. This is
collaboration on a deal that kills more soldiers, and more civilians
to protect an asset of the Global Elite.
This is an outrage - and would be from a Republican President as well!
To hell with Obama coming to work. When
are the people going to come to work and demand that our
representatives represent our best interest -
instead of the interests of thieves?

Clinton signed NAFTA. Dumbya stole the
land for that pipeline... and Obama is protecting it.

Less than a year after Inauguration Day, support
for
the Democratic Party continues to slump, amid a difficult
economy and a wave of public discontent, according
to a new WhoreStreet Journal/NBC News poll.
The findings underscored how dramatically the
political landscape has changed during Obama's first year.
In January, despite the recession and financial
crisis, voters expressed optimism about the future, the new president
enjoyed soaring approval ratings, and congressional
leaders promised to swiftly pass his ambitious agenda.
In December's survey, for the first time, less
than half of Americans approved of the job Obama was doing,
marking a steeper first-year fall for this president
than his recent predecessors.
Also for the first time this year, the electorate
was split when asked which party it wanted to see in charge
after the 2010 elections. For months, a clear
plurality favored Democratic control.
The survey suggests that public discontent with
Mr. Obama and his party is being driven
by an unusually grim view of the country's status
and future prospects
I saw a poll last week that said 44% of Americans want Bush back.
...sure would be nice to see Obama come to work.

Subject: Pokerfest Breckenridge
Bart,
Due to my financial circumstances, I could never
make any of the previous Bartfests
despite especially wanting to go to Chicago and
Vegas.
Breckenridge is almost at my back door...within
driving distance. Count me in if you would have me.
I will likely bring my own booze and food (others
may want to as well...ski towns are expensive),
and of course I will try to bring some flowers
of my own. I look forward to finally meeting folks
with a similar mindset as myself.

The Democrats have no desire to win - they just don't have the fire in their bellies.
When Bush was brealing ther law and killing thousands of soldiers, every
Democrat told us,
"They have the majority - we can't stop them."
When Obama won, the Rethugs slammed the brakes on everything (that Kissyface
didn't block.)
We found out in 2009 that ANY senator can block ANYTHING he wants,
but the Democrats
refused to use that same veto power under Bush because they're scared
bunnies.
The only time the Democrats find a spine is when they're attacking each other.

off at this endless process of emotional highs and lows
and exhilaration and dejection and history and
infamy.
I'm pissed off that Obama "thanked" Kissyface
even though he nearly killed health care reform this week.
I'm pissed off at Joe Lieberman. I'm pissed off
at his childish, vengeful, opposite-day hackery. I'm pissed off
at his giant pie-shaped head and his passive
aggression. I'm pissed off that he enjoys government-run Medicare
benefits while opposing government-run insurance
for the rest of us.
I'm pissed off at the Senate. The whole Senate.
The rules, the senators, the color of the walls, the fact that a doof
like Chuck Grassley can actually be elected to
it. Multiple times. I'm pissed off that even though we finally have a
60 seat supermajority, it's dysfunctional and
Harry Reid is in charge of it. I'm pissed off that senators of both parties
receive government-run primary care from the
Office of the Attending Physician, while denying it to everyone else.
I'm pissed off at cable news and the establishment press for focusing more on Tiger Woods than health care reform.
I'm pissed off at Rahm Emanuel and I'm pissed
off at the "scary profane a-hole" mythology that's built up
around him, and how he only seems to use his
powers of intimidation to bully the left.
Every story has the same angle:
We lose because we're scared and stupid and we
fight each other - not the enemy.
How did I get stuck in a party of lame-ass surrender
monkeys?

Feingold: "Obama Blew It"
Excerpt:
Russ Feingold announced that he would support
the Senate's final version of health care reform. But in doing so
he cast blame for the loss of a public option
for insurance coverage partially on the president's shoulders and urged
congress to re-insert the government-run plan
back into the legislation during conference committee.
"I've been fighting all year for a strong public
option to compete with the insurance industry and bring spending down.
I continued that fight during recent negotiations,
and I refused to sign onto a deal to drop the public option from the Senate
bill.
Unfortunately, the lack of support from Obama
made keeping the public option in the bill an uphill struggle.
Removing the public option from the Senate bill
is the wrong move, and eliminates $25 billion in savings. I will be
urging members of the House and Senate who draft
the final bill to make sure this essential provision is included.
