"Democrats are dropping like flies." -- Whore ABC News headline,
Link
"In the House, 14 GOP incumbents have decided
not to seek re-election, while 10 Democratic incumbents have made the same announcement.
Does this mean Republicans are 'dropping like flies'? In the Senate, six Republican incumbents have
decided not to seek re-election, while two Democratic incumbents have made the same announcement.
Is this evidence of a mass Democratic exodus?" -- Steve Benen,

Excerpt: TV news broadcasters dote upon melodrama. The
fact that would-be terrorist Umar Abdulmutallab
struck on Christmas Day, one of the slowest news
days of the year, sent the media into overdrive.
For CNN, Fox News and the rest, the catastrophe
that blessedly didn't happen spurred them to do
what they do best: gather a terrific amount of
information in a short time and inform us about what
happened aboard Northwest Airlines Flight 253
-- and, equally important, what didn't, such as a
coordinated attack by multiple terrorists.
(Was I the only one who wondered whether the heroism
of Dutch tourist Jasper Schuringa,
who threw himself on Abdulmutallab, preventing
the bomb in his pants from detonating,
got relatively short shrift because he wasn't
an American?)
Moreover, the rapidity with which the media had
gathered crucial information about the would-be
terrorist only underscored the magnitude of the
intelligence failure. How, in the age of Google,
can the Transportation Security Administration
not have an instantly searchable database containing
every suspect who has come to the attention of
the CIA or FBI, much less one whose father warned
U.S. embassy authorities about his son's growing
radicalism?
Obama has demanded an answer.
Congress needs to make sure Americans get one,
even if that means having to endure McCain
and Holy Joe Lieberman's unique blend of smugness
and solemnity for weeks at a time.
However, we could all do without the sky-is-falling
hysteria. If anything, Abdulmutallab's failed
atrocity attempt demonstrates, once again, how
little America as a nation actually has to fear from
al-Qaida. Everyone reading this column is far
more likely to die in an automobile accident or an
influenza epidemic than at a terrorist's hands.
Excerpt: What a difference a year makes.
Last January, Democrats were streaming
into Washington eager to celebrate not just the
inauguration of Barack Obama as president, but
also their party's ascendancy from coast to coast.
They'd gained ground in once-Republican turf such
as the Mountain West and the Border South,
added to their majorities in Congress and topped
it all by seizing the presidency.
"Yes, we can," a triumphant Obama trumpeted,
and the country seemed to cheer in agreement.
Now, the country seems to be yelling back, "No,
you can't," and putting the Democrats on the
defensive heading into next fall's elections,
when the entire House of Representatives, 37 seats
in the Senate and 39 governor's offices are up
for election.
The blame belongs to President Kumbaya.
His goal was not to lead, but to be liked by rabid dogs.
Then he got bit a hundred times but still he reaches out to them.
Excerpt: Americans woke up on September 15, 2008 to find
their economy on the brink of systemic failure.
While the crisis was averted by massive taxpayer-funded
bail-outs, the burden of losses was transferred
on to the shoulders of middle class Americans.
Unemployment and foreclosures rocketed, and the government deficit ballooned.
To avoid systemic economic failure, and in defiance
of the dogma of the Chicago School of Economics,
private Wall St. losses were nationalized and
bankers were not just protected but cosseted.
After September 15, 2008, Icelanders woke up to
find their banks failing, their currency devalued,
and their economy effectively bankrupted. Many
citizens and all of their bankers faced massive losses.
What happened next? Well, both countries held
elections, and both elected progressive politicians as leaders.
But now the paths followed by the leaders of
these two countries have diverged. One has stood up to the bankers,
and refused to nationalize private losses. The
other faces a precipitous decline in political support as he bows to the
bankers, and effectively victimizes taxpayers.
Unsurprisingly, Wall St. profits and bonuses
have soared under Obama's watch and that of Fed Chairman
Bernanke, while the monopolization of Wall St.
has intensified. Worse than that, the bankers have been invited in
-- to both the Treasury and the Congress -- to
stall and undermine proposed regulation of the sector.
"We have to do better, and we will do better.
And we have to do it quickly...The system has failed in a potentially disastrous way. Our intelligence
community failed to connect those dots which would have placed the suspect on the no-fly list.
It is increasingly clear that intelligence was not fully analyzed or fully leveraged. That's not acceptable,
and I will not tolerate it."

It's my understanding that we don't even get a list of passengers
until the plane is headed our way - what kind of bullshuit is that?
Why don't we make the list public so the airlines can check it when
Hadji tries to buy a ticket?
And what's the jet supposed to do when they get near Detroit and they're
told
they have a possible terrorist on board and he's not welcome in our
country?
Seems like a low-IQ Okie could devise a better system.
BTW, do we trust the Nigerian DMV?
How do we know the terrorist is who he claims to be?

Subject: Mike Lester -piece of
shit
I was flabbergasted when I saw you run a Mike
Lester cartoon. Now, maybe your point in posting it
was that airport security is a big hassle these
days, but I just wanted to point out that Mike Lester is one of
the most reprehensible right-wing cartoonists
around. Note, too, that during the Bush administration,
Lester was singing a different tone on security
- see the attached image.
Now that a liberal is President, though, suddenly
nosy security checks are bad news.
He's a hypocrite, which is bad enough, but seriously,
man, if you aren't aware of the sort of bile
he hacks up into newspapers around the country,
do a Google image search for "Mike Lester"
and check out what the man stands for. He's a
grade A piece of shit.
-The Cubelodyte
I heard it said more than once that we have a
better chance of being struck by lightning
than killed by a terrorist yet I hardly ever
hear about the financial terrorists (wall street, mega banks).
We are being hit continuously from all sides.
I know I'm not the only one eating shit, it's so sad to see
the country being spiked in the toilet like a
touchdown for the GOP. Kill that goddamn fillibuster.
Now to change my underware. Thanks for your site,
much welcomed humor.

Excerpt: The Progressive Caucus in Congress can save Democrats
from a disaster in the 2010 elections that
could destroy any semblance of a governing majority
and erase any hope for the mandate for change
that voters gave Democrats in 2008.
Nothing has changed. Lobbyists dominate
the town. Money dominates the legislation.
Democrats repeatedly fail to fight for first
principles. Voters are angry. Democrats are now
the party of incumbency in a nation that again
demands change.
It is astounding that Republicans, who adopt nihilism
as a strategy and banana-republic obstruction
as a tactic, who hope that America fails as a
plan and who have popularity at rock-bottom levels,
could win a major election victory over Democrats.
With a president who remains on the sidelines
and a majority that becomes a mockery, the Senate
looks like the movie "Casablanca" without Bogart
or Bergman. The 60-vote rule is not respected as
the result of a mandate for change, but exploited
as a tool of legislative extortion that brings humiliation
to one of its prime practitioners, who is now
down 30 points in the polls back home.
Hey Brent, do you think Hillary would've refused
to fight?
Do you think Hillary would've remained on the
sidelines?
Do you think Hillary would've squandered her
first year trying to get rabid dogs to like her?
Do you think Hillary would've turned her presidency
over to Reid, Pelosi and Glenn Beck?
Excerpt: The latest atrocity attempted by Al Qaeda seems
to be yet another example of history reprising
a great tragedy as farce. What make the misadventure
of the underpants bomber on Flight 253 seem
darkly ridiculous, however, is not only his incompetence
in setting himself on fire, but the hysteria and
hypocrisy of the reactions set off on the right
by his painful squib. Then again, the Republican exploitative
response to terror is as predictable as Al Qaeda’s
urge to kill...
If we lived in a confident, politically mature
society, (Should he bother to finish that sentence?) we would
be able to see that tabloid hysterics and direct-mail
posturing will do nothing to defeat Al Qaeda. We would
understand why Obama prefers to engage Islam
in dialogue rather than demonize a billion Muslims. We would
realize that even as we endeavor to destroy a
nihilistic enemy that perverts faith, we ought to maintain our composure,
our values and, at the very least, our capacity
for honest debate. But that would require an opposition loyal to
something bigger than itself.
Bart,
That is the most important post you've printed
lately. No one seems to notice what CNN actually does.
Common wisdom has it that FOX is the right-wing
outlet, and supposedly MSNBC represents the left
(though Morning Joe and Matthews seem to balance
out Schultz, Keith and Rachel).
This leaves CNN as the voice of reason and balanced
presentation. What utter bullshit.
Every story is presented with a negative slant
on the administration and Democrats. Every story.
Every headline and "tease" is framed the same
way. You can't find one liberal voice on the network,
except for a few minutes here and there for Begala
and others. Every anchor leans heavily to the right.
For months on end, every ten minutes day in, day
out there was a commercial from either the insurance
company front groups or the Chamber of Commerce
slamming health care reform with flat-out lies.
Then there was John Roberts or Blitzer scratching
their heads and wondering why public opinion of
health care reform has slipped so much. They
never mention the multi-million dollar ad campaign that
pays for their salaries. I think they're the
worst part of a media that is destroying our country.
I could go on and on and on about these assholes.
FUCK 'em. And then, FUCK 'em again.

CNN is not in the news business - they're in the revenue-generating
business.
FOX, like the Washington Times, exists to push the GOP propaganda, money
be damned.
BTW, I taped the replay - that'll be in BCR
161 which I'm working on today.
I keep CNN on while I'm working and I heard their
commercial claiming that
for ten years, they've had more viewers than
FOX and it made me think:
FOX does better in the ratings, but they're only
broadcasting in the US, right?
Could FOX broadcast in other countries?
Or would their avalanche of misinformation just be laughed at by
the countries that actually keep up with the
factual news?
How would a clown like Glenn Beck be perceived
in England or France?
When Murdoch sells his fake news in London and Australia, is he laughed
at?
Or are there enough religiously-insane monkeys to make fake news profitable?
Sidebar: The Simpsons in twenty years old, whiuch means FOX is at least
that old,
so when is FOX going to be a real network and have 3 hours of prime
time programming?
Sidebar: Does Gore still have a TV network?
It's so lame, I can't even remember the name of it.
Too bad Gore decided against forming a factual news network.
I mean, why tell the truth when there's so much shit on the airwaces?
Gore - in 2000, he chose to treat the most popular politician in America
like a leper
and it cost him everything and changed history and turned America into
Torture Nation.
He chose Lieberman as his running mate to shame and ridicule Clinton.
Gore - so lame he couldn't even carry Tennessee.
He chose to lay down in his fight for the White House during the campaign
and again in Florida when he told Democrats to stay away, which meant
the
only people on TV were religiously-insane, anti-science handjobs screaming
at Gore to get out of Cheney's house..

CB, it's OK if you don't like it but no way the
effects last a year.
If that was true, an ounce would last a lifetime.
And of course, I wouldn't want a pilot, babysitter
or school bus driver smoking it.
But compared to almost every other drug, it's
relatively harmless.
And even if you don't like it, as a liberal you should want others to
