Click to Order “Mike Palecek reminds me of Socrates the gadfly who asked unwelcome questions, Diogenes with his lantern looking in vain for an honest man, Chekhov the man with the hammer challenging the complacent family to share their meal, Kerouac the ever on the move, somewhat hysterical searcher, and he reminds me of many Americans who as children were so blasted with propaganda that they’re devoting the rest of their lives to challenging the lies and all who tell them. In this land where babies are brought by storks and buildings collapse due to unpatriotic bricks, we need the gadfly because no leader, preacher, guru or saint will wake us up, though the Doomsday clock is ticking close to twelve.” -- David Ray, American poet, author of “The Endless Search” and “The Death of Sardanapalus and Other Poems of the Iraq Wars” Quotes
"If the current society wants to outlaw discrimination by sex, hey we have legislatures, and they enact things called laws. You don't need a constitution to keep things up-to-date. All you need is a legislature and a ballot box. You don't like the death penalty anymore, that's fine. You want a right to abortion? There's nothing in the Constitution about that. But that doesn't mean you cannot prohibit it. Persuade us it's a good idea and pass a law. " -- Justive Scalia, saying Blacks and woman have to rights until the old white men withmpower decide to give them some rights out of the graciousness of their hearts, Link Scalia, you are one black-hearted son of a bitch. So, when a minority is persecuted, all they need to do is persuade those persecuting them to stop? How'd that work for the Jews in Germany in 1939? How's that working for Muslims living in today's United States? Rep. Peter King of New York is about to become a modern-day Joe McCarthy by vowing to use Homeland Security to examine supposed "radicalization of Muslims" in the United States. "Are you, or have you ever been, a Muslin?" According to Scalia, that's not a problem for Muslims because all they have to do is convince racist cavemen like King, Inhofe and Coburn to "be reasonable" and stop oppressing them. Republicans are going to play to their base for a certain period of time. But I'm pretty confident that they're going to recognize that our job is to govern and make sure that we are delivering jobs for the American people and that we are creating a competitive economy for the 21st Century. Not just for this generation but for the next one. And so my expectation, my hope is that John Boehner and Mitch McConnell will realize that there will be plenty of time to campaign for 2012 in 2012." -- Obama, proving he still has no clue about how evil today's GOP is, Link I don't like getting this dramatic, but I gotta ask the question: Mr Obama, if the Bitch and Boner kidnapped and murdered your two daughters, would THAT convince you they are unreasonable men who aren't looking to find some common ground? Obama is a smart man but he cannot conceive that they're not like us. He thinks these creatures can be reasoned with - why? Look what they've done to America since 2001 and tell me that Bitch & Boner "will realize that there will be plenty of time to campaign for 2012 in 2012." How can a man that smart be so clueless and naive especially after they've screwed him 40-50 times? After two years of Republicans pissing on his leg, Obama still thinks it's raining. Those are the qualifications." -- Rick Santorum (R-Man-on-Dog sex), on Sarah Palin's qualifications, Link So, according to Rick Santorum, Charles Manson is qualified to be President of the UUnieted States? Romney has the electability but not the base appeal, Palin has the base appeal but not the electability, and Gingrich falls in the middle on both counts. ...Huckabee looks like the GOP's best bet." -- Tom Jensen, Link Translation: To appeal to the base, the GOP candidate has to be the snarling dog screaming, "That nigger, raghead Muslin wants to rape your daughters and ruin America." To be electable, the GOP candidate has to be a normal Joe you'd let inside your home. How can any Rethug be both at once? Quotes "White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told CNN today that he is leaving his job." -- CNN That't the best news I've heard in a long time. Gibbs has been the worst Demo press secretary I've ever seen - and I'm old. Christ, Gibbs made DeeDee Myers (D-Backstabber) seem competent (not a compliment) Send e-mail to Bart Subject: Daryl Issa is full of it Has anyone from the Obama administration been indicted, no less convicted of corruption related charges? The most corrupt president of modern times was not W, it was not W's father. It was not Clinton and it was not Nixon. It was Ronald Reagan. I don't know how many people in his administration were indicted, but there were over 20 people convicted of corruption charges, and many of them of multiple counts. I'm not counting anyone who's case was overturned on appeal, like Ollie North. I am counting those that HW pardoned before he left office, though. You can probably do a better search than I did, and find a better source for better numbers than Wikipedia. But St. Ronnie ran the most corrupt administration since the Teapot Dome scandal. Republicans need to be called out on this. sue I agree - Bush had to pardon Reagan's goons to stay out of prison but that means the Reagan administration was guilty, not necessarily Reagan himself. After he was shot, I'm not sure we can accuse Reagan of anything more than being a brainless figurehead, like he was America's Ronald McDonald. I wonder what Reagan knew about Bill Casey and the October Surprise? Maybe Poppy said, "Don't worry, I got it handled" and committed treason while Reagan did what he always did - delegated and stayed out of the loop. Bartcop's Marriage Advice I'm a happily married man of 34 years, so as a public service, I often give marriage advice to the young 'uns. Last night I had a dilemma and I couldn't screw this up. Mrs. Bart is a hueueueueuge Arkansas Razorback football fan and in 2010, they were having their best season in a long time. The last time they made it to a major bowl game was 1990 and they were ranked #8, playing #6 Ohio State in the second biggest game of the year. It was a slaughter. By halftime, the score was something like 31-10 and it's tough watching your favorite team drop balls, miss tackles and generally get stomped so we decided to switch over to NCIS at 9PM and tape the slaughter - just in case. I'd check the score now and then, but eventually she drifted off to sleep in her chair. (She's up at 6:30 for work and it was after 11 PM now.) So I kept checking the score, which is now 31-23. I tried to wake her, but she'd be awake for a minute or two and fall back to sleep. Time is running out, but Arkansas kicked a field goal so now it's 31-26. Next thing you know, with less than a minute to go, Arkansas blocked a punt and it was Arkansas at the Ohio State 13 with 30 second on the clock. We might be witnessing one of the Razorback's best comebacks ever and I knew she'd KILL ME if I let her sleep thru their finest hour in a generation. I tired to wake her, she wouldn't budge, I tried again and her attitude was, "Why are you bothering me?" Then (Koresh help me) I spotted the water squirt bottle we use on the cats when they jump on the kitchen counter or whatever. I ran thru my options and I couldn't think of any other way to get her to wake up, so I decided to gamble and I gave her a pretty good shot in the face. That did the trick. She woke up - she was wide awake and surprisingly, she wasn't angry. As soon as she was awake and aware, she saw the gravity of the situation and she even thanked me for being sure she was awake for the Razorback's most dramatic minute in twenty-one years. On the next play, the Razorback quaterback threw an intercepttion, killing the magical comeback and all was lost. Mrs. Bart looked at me and said, "You woke me up for that?" Send e-mail to Bart Today's History Mystery Link I need more history pictures - do you readers have any history pictures I can use? "I have some pictures, Bart" Send e-mail to Bart I could also use some city pictures from America and around the world. Send e-mail to Bart Subject: last issue's history mystery Who is last issue's History Mystery? Bart, The mystery man is no mystery to most modern politician who run rip-shod over our country today. It is no other than the infamous William Magear Tweed aka “Boss” Tweed, a New York senator and head of the Democratic Party based in Tammany Hall. He and his cohorts stole an estimated $45 million from the tax payers. Unlike today’s politician, though, he was charged, arrested, found guilty and died in prison. This was made possible by something back then known as journalistic integrity and the New York Times (both of which are alarmingly absent in this age). Charlie in Belchertown, MA Send e-mail to Bart
