Sorry, but I'm no Liberal. shit W was a liberal.  I'm a Socialist and Proud of it. 
I watch Idol because I LOVE seeing young people excel, and like it or not, this competition
brings that out in them.  Of course, the voted eliminations are almost completely arbitrary,
but that's only because by the time they kick in, it's down to very talented people competing
song for song and any of them could do it, but only one will. 

I don't miss Cowell, my Irish and Orkney blood boils involuntarily at displays of Brit arrogance. 
Steven's much nicer than his roadies were to me in '79 when I got pulled under the stage and stomped,
and he brings a moral mentorship to the process.  J-Lo's a good casting to replace Paula if she had to be.

 Did she have to be replaced though?  I absolutely don't miss whoever it was that was as the odd 4th
last season; the woman with no independent opinions. I'm a Casey fan this year.  I'm a sucker for
someone who CAN play the bass.

It's a weird thing about Paula.

They gave Seacrest an $11M deal (I don't even think he asked for a raise) so Paula asked if she
could get a raise (I think she was making $4M).  The cheap bastards said no to Paula and then
replaced her with Jennifer Lopez who, according to press reports, is getting $14M and Tyler
told Howard Stern he was getting more than JLo.

As far as voting, you never hear Idol say, "Voting certified by XYZ accounting firm."
I think the voting is fixed - they're not under oath when they give those voting tallies.

Seafoam claims they get 50M votes, but that could be 5M.

Roguestream radio goes Live

My buddy Wiseguy has the biggest collection of live rock concerts ever.

He's started a pirate radio kind of site where you can hear live rock music
that you've probably never heard before. Over the weekend I tuned into his
"ABC" set, which featured live music from Aerosmith (1990) that had Peter Gunn
inserted into the middle of Sweet Emotion, then Boston doing More Than a Feeling
live in Philly (1976) and it closed out with Collective Soul doing a live song on 12-31-99.

He tells me future podcasts will be an hour or so.

It's been a excellent week for auroras. 

A strong solar storm arrived and at about 1:20 a.m. the skies lit up with bright swirls,
long rays, coronas and pulsating auroras. It was very windy and much colder than
I expected it to be and I was not dressed as warmly as I should have been so I
decided to call it quits about 2:30 after getting in many good shots. It was a very
 rewarding night of aurora watching and one of the best shows of the season! 

Just so you know, these aren't from Astrocat's collection.
He's going out each night and taking these pictures fresh!
