"Mitt Romney said he doesn't really care about poor people. Now he's backtracking, saying he connects with poor people. Yeah, the same way Tom Brady connects with Wes Welke.” -- Letterman Send e-mail to Bart Robert Reich vs Obama Boy, is this guy a liberal or what?
Link It has been said there is no high ground in American politics since any politician who claims it is likely to be gunned down by those firing from the trenches. That's how the Obama team justifies endorsing a super PAC that can raise and spend unlimited sums for his campaign. Baloney. Good ends don't justify corrupt means. What I'm hearing is "Why win when you can lose with honor, instead?" That's how most Democrats run most campaigns. Romney's friends on Wall Street have the deepest pockets in America. His super PAC got $18 million from just 200 donors in the second half of last year. "With so much at stake" wrote Obama campaign manager Jim Messina, Obama couldn't "unilaterally disarm." But would refusing to be corrupted this way really amount to unilateral disarmament? To the contrary, I think it would have given the President a rallying cry that nearly all Americans would get behind: "More of the nation's wealth and political power is now in the hands of fewer people and large corporations than since the era of the robber barons of the Gilded Age. I will not allow our democracy to be corrupted by this! I will fight to take back our government!" Yeah, a great speech is always better than having a $500M campaign war chest. You just said Romney was averaging $90K from each Fat Cat and you want Obama to fight back with whatever nickles and dimes he can get from the poorest Americans? That's either proof that you're crazy or proof you're a Democrat, suggesting Obama bring a smile and a nice speech to this everybody-has-an-Uzi fight. Small donations would have flooded the Obama campaign, overwhelming Romney's billionaire super PACs. The people would have been given a chance to be heard. Sure, and the victory ball would be catered by leprachauns, angels and unicorns. Like most Democrats, Reich means well but he's not living in the real world. And Reich is another one who stabbed his president in the back to get Obama elected, and now he's turned into another David Sirota, (not a compliment.) Send e-mail to Bart McCain: Obama should help Syrians Now & then McCain gets one right Link John McCain says Obama should find ways to help the Syrian people without putting American boots on the ground. McCain said there are several options available, ranging from medical care and technical assistance to safe havens for refugees of the violence. He says the Syrian government is killing its own people, and it's an international outrage. The often crazy man, in a rare lucid moment, says "it's time we acted on behalf of the people who are being slaughtered." I agree. For five days, Assad has been on "a medieval murder spree." They say he's targeting hospitals and anyone who helps the wounded. When are we going to step in and explain things to him? "Every hour bring news of more atrocities." -- CNN's John King Seeing the ads puts

Link
The intense media debate over the White House push to require all insurance plans to cover contraception is barely 48 hours old. And already some Democrats are bailing on President Obama. Just like Republicans, Democrats have mixed opinions on choice in their caucus. And pro-life Democrats like Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) have taken a line on the new rule — opposition and concern — in keeping with their views. But on Wednesday, pro-choice Democrats started coming out in opposition to the new White House edict that the insurance rules follow the example of 28 states and include religious-run health plans at large institutions like hospitals and universities. Former Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine — the past chair of the DNC and now a candidate for U.S. Senate — told a Virginia radio show that he’s opposed to the new rules. Rep. John Larson (CT), a member of the House Democratic leadership with 100% voting score from NARAL, released a letter Wednesday in which he also split with the White House on the contraception rules. It’s easy to see this as very strange, considering polling that shows an overwhelming number of Americans — including most Catholics — support the White House move, and the idea of increasing access to contraception. Of course, those are national polls, and some strategists wonder if the House GOP has calculated this issue could hit Dems where it hurts: in “blue dog” swing seats with high concentrations of more religious voters. If Catholics don't care, who's doing the fighting? How many Catholic families do you know with 12 kids? I'll bet the answer is zero. BTW, Santorum is crazy - even for a Catholic. If he wins, he'll try to make birth controll illegal. You young gals ready to have a dozen kids under President Santorum?
Quotes "Gingrich didn’t campaign in Colorado, Missouri, and Minnesota. But he’s vowed to stay in the race until the Republican convention. However, Newt doesn’t have a great track record as far as sticking to his vows....” -- Jimmy Kimmel How can Newt claim to be a man of faith when he changed religions for wife #3? And why was it OK for her to screw Newt as a Protestant, but he had to change to Catholic to be her temporary husband? We see it again and again and again. People claim they're religious, but they'll throw it all away for a piece of ass. Send e-mail to Bart

Obama, the Great Vaccinator
He always give the bad guys a way out Link Ronald Reagan was The Great Communicator. Lyndon Johnson had his Great Society. Obama’s presidency is moving toward greatness, as well, but not in a good way. At seemingly every turn, Obama has made sure that major crimes are met not with justice but with immunity. Obama has conferred so much immunity on so many different groups that he has earned the title “The Great Vaccinator” Even before becoming President, Obama began offering immunity wherever justice was demanded. Once he had the Democratic nomination in his pocket, Obama abandoned the principled stand he took during the primaries (when he said he would filibuster any bill with retroactive immunity and would vote against it) and voted along with all Senate Republicans for cloture and then in favor of the bill that conferred retroactive immunity on the telecommunications companies that illegally wiretapped citizens without warrants. The other major scandal from which the country was reeling as Obama took office was the meltdown of the economy caused by banksters. When the market collapsed, the accompanying stock market crash resulted in catastrophic losses for millions of Americans who saw their savings lose about half their value in just a few weeks. Coupled with this stock market collapse was a collapse in the housing market, leading to millions of Americans now owing more for their homes than they are worth. There was reason to hope that Obama would take action to right this huge wrong but Obama made sure that no prominent bansters ever faced criminal charges. And he's going to win re-election so he will continue his "look forward" strategy for most crimes but poker players and marijuana users will continue to he hunted by Obama's Justice Department. If you steal hundreds of billions of dollars, your punishment is to give some of the money back. If you get caught with a joint or a deck of cards, it's goodbye to the Brixton sun. Obama's Mortgage Settlement His first step is always to surrender Link We've now set a price for forgeries and fabricating documents. It's $2000 per loan. This is a rounding error compared to the chain of title problem these systematic practices were designed to circumvent. The cost is also trivial in comparison to the average loan, which is roughly $180k, so the settlement represents about 1% of loan balances. It is less than the price of the title insurance that banks failed to get when they transferred the loans to the trust. It is a fraction of the cost of the legal expenses when foreclosures are challenged. It's a great deal for the banks because no one is at any of the servicers going to jail for forgery and the banks have set the upper bound of the cost of riding roughshod over 300 years of real estate law. Wall Street and the banksters will continue to screw us because there's no reason not to . They know if they get caught, the government will say "Shame on you - pay back 1% of what you stole" and they get to keep the other 99% so where's the incentive to not steal more billions?
