"Fox has been for Romney all the way through. CNN is less biased than FOX this year. We are more likely to get neutral coverage out of CNN than we are at FOX, and we're more likely to get distortion out of FOX. That's just a fact." -- Newt, confusing everyone by telling the truth, Link Send e-mail to Bart Romney 2012 = Kerry 2004?
Link Political reporters try to figure out which past election the current elections most reminds them of. It’s part parlor game — you usually win when you compare the current election to the most obscure election of the past possible (this reminds me of the 1876 election between Tilden and Hayes) — and part useful political analysis. While no two elections are ever exactly the same, there are elections whose dynamics clearly resemble one another and where studying what happened can help you understand what will happen. We’ve spent a lot — and we mean, a lot — of time thinking about what election the 2012 race reminds us most of and can now definitively say that it’s the 2004 contest - Bush vs Kerry. Yak, yak, yak - I disagree. Romney is Hillary in 2008 - half of his own party hates his f-ing guts. Send e-mail to Bart Shop Online

How crazy is Allen West? (Who?) "People should not be judged by the shade of their character..." Link Rep. Allen West (R-FL) has done it again. At a campaign town hall event on Tuesday, the Palm Beach Post reports, West declared that he’s “heard” that up to 80 House Democrats are members of the Communist Party. However, he would not name any specific people. West also got in a verbal shot against President Obama, declaring that Obama is too scared to debate him: “I really wish that, standing here before you, was Allen West and President Obama,” West said. “We could have a simple discussion. But that ain’t ever gonna happen.” “Why not?” an audience member asked. “Cuz he was too scared!” West responded in a mocking voice. I look forward to pounding this nut. Marty

Read all about it! on the Bart Blog! Bush regrets 'Bush' tax cuts by Smoking Joe Conason Link When George W. Bush made his first public appearance in many months on Tuesday, his utterances may have revealed more than he intended. "I wish they weren't called the 'Bush tax cuts,'" he said. But does he really believe, as he seemed to suggest, that Americans want to let those cuts expire from a desire to spite him? Or is there a deeper Bush who would prefer not to be associated with fiscal profligacy and ideological overreach? Whatever his motives, Bush's curious remark draws a sharp contrast with Bill Clinton — who often speaks proudly of the tax increase that was so central to his first budget as president two decades ago. Clinton, who talks publicly far more often than Bush, often notes that the 1993 tax increase, supported only Democrats, was the first step toward balance and growth after a dozen years of Republican irresponsibility and stagnation. It isn't clear that Bush actually understands the indelible effects of his tax and spending policies. Someone should explain to him what is so painfully obvious when the numbers are added up: Not only should the tax cuts be named after him, so should the deficit and the debt. Exactly - well put, Joe. Democrats can't figure out how to say "Bush's deficit, Bush's war, Bush's debt," etc. I'm going to say it one more time. Our poor, stupid Democrats are getting the "raising taxes" millstone hung around their neck. Our Democrats can't figure a way to say, "WE didn't suggest the Bush tax cuts expire in 2011. It was BUSH who said those tax cuts should expire - fucking go scream at HIM!" But our Democrats just can't figure out the easy ones. The message needs to go out to every GOP gun nut in that gun-nut state: ANY TIME you pick up a gun, you have to ask yourself, "What the hell an I doing and how would a jury see it?" Racists in Florida need a new hobby - one that doesn't involve hunting "coons." Send e-mail to Bart In Defense of Obama's Drones
by Gene Lyons Link To hear some people tell it, President Obama has seized dictatorial power to murder any American citizen he secretly deems a terrorist. Eric Holder’s craven rationalization of US-born Anwar al-Awlaki in Yemen last September struck some as the veritable death-knell of democracy. “The President and his underlings,” writes one fiery critic, “are your accuser, your judge, your jury and your executioner all wrapped up in one, acting in total secrecy and without your even knowing that he’s accused you and sentenced you to death, and you have no opportunity even to know about, let alone confront and address, his accusations.” Then why are so many Americans, myself included, so blasé about it? Because most feel that, American citizen or not, if you’ve run off to join a band of lunatics at war with the United States, then the United States is also at war with you. Indeed, Congress has specifically authorized armed hostilities against al-Qaida and its affiliates. Anwar al-Awlaki called the play; he basically got what he asked for. I think Gene makes a lot of sense. Remember, EVERY COP with a gun can be your judge, your jury and your executioner. In Florida, you don't even have to be a cop. . Send e-mail to Bart We're

Link Subject: last issue's Mystery Car Link Bart, that's a 1954 Packard Caribbean, Packard's "sporty" car. The hood scoop and the extensions to the rear fenders were made of lead! It had a straight-8 flathead engine of I believe 327 cubic inches and a 2-speed "Ultramatic" automatic transmission with a lock-up torque converter. I prefer the looks of the '53 of which my father had 2 (of a total of ~700). They cost in the neighborhood of $5,000. Send e-mail to Bart Subject: Buffet Tax rule should be Romney Tax rule President Obama has been touting the "Buffet Rule" - that billionaires like Warren Buffet shouldn't pay a lower tax rate than his secretary. I think they should call it the "Romney Rule" instead. As we come up on April 15th to pay our taxes we are reminded that Romney only pays a 15% tax rate while a middle class person like myself pays 30%. I don't see why I should pay twice the tax rate Romney does. We need to pass the "Romney Rule" so that millionaires like Romney have the same opportunity to contribute to America that I do.
