Syria's uprising entered uncharted territory after rebels fighting Dictator al-Assad killed three of his
top security chiefs in a devastating bomb attack in the heart of Damascus – the single worst loss for
the murdering government in 16 months of increasingly bloody struggle.
Mass defections of soldiers and a rampage by pro-regime militiamen were reported in the capital amid
a swirl of rumours, including one that Assad's wife, Asma, had fled to Russia and another that troops
were being issued with gas masks, raising fears of the use of chemical weapons.
Assad's whereabouts was also unclear.
Syrian state TV confirmed the deaths of Assef Shawkat, Assad's brother-in-law and the deputy head
of the armed forces, and his closest security adviser, as well as Dawoud Rajha, the minister of defence
and the regime's most senior Christian figure. Hassan Turkmani, his crisis management chief, was also killed.
Other leading figures, including the interior minister and the intelligence chief were wounded and being treated.

"What is Mitt Romney hiding?" isn't the most damaging thing that can be said about his refusal
to release his tax returns. Here's what is: Romney thinks the rules don't apply to him.
Americans don't resent wealth. They resent a rigged system. Ordinary people have to play by
the rules, but the lesson of the financial meltdown is that plutocrats don't.
One of the rules of running for president is that you have to release your tax returns.
That's the way we do it in America.
Romney reeks of entitlement.
He thinks it's up to him to decide whether his financial life should be transparent.
It doesn't even occur to him that he owes this to voters -- that it's an obligation, not an option.
He may or may not be hiding something. But it almost doesn't matter whether he
ultimately discloses his tax returns, because he's already disclosed his arrogance.

I saw an article that speculates that what Mitt is hiding in his tax returns:
It is an amnesty that the IRS offered on Swiss Bank accounts in 2009.
Here’s an excerpt:
Wealthy U.S. taxpayers, concerned about an Internal Revenue Service crackdown on the use
of secret overseas bank accounts as tax havens, are rushing to meet a Thursday deadline to
disclose those accounts or face possible criminal prosecution. The concern was triggered this
summer when Switzerland's largest bank, caught up in an international tax evasion dispute,
said it would disclose the names of more than 4,000 of its U.S. account holders.
The decision shattered a long-held belief that Swiss banks would guard the identities of its
American customers as carefully as they did their money, and it raised concern that other
international tax havens might be next. Under an amnesty program, the IRS is allowing
taxpayers to avoid prosecution for having failed to report their overseas accounts.
As a result, tax attorneys across the nation have been besieged by wealthy clients
who are lining up to apply even though they will still face big financial penalties.

Two Democratic super PACs are criticizing Mitt Romney for his views on issues concerning gay and lesbian
Americans by launching a new website called Mitt Gets Worse that includes anti-Romney video testimonials.
Modeled after the viral online campaign "It Gets Better," in which users make personal videos meant to
encourage gay and lesbian young people, American Bridge 21st Century and Courage Campaign Super PAC
are urging followers to send in videos "to tell their own story about Mitt Romney and why he has made
(or would make) things worse for them."
The website suggests that Romney, if elected, would roll back gay rights initiatives enacted under Obama.
"The Mitt Gets Worse campaign is an oral history of Mitt Romney's efforts to diminish the rights and the
freedoms of LGBT Americans, told by supporters, activists, and LGBT advocates that have personally been
impacted by Mitt's anti-equality agenda," the website reads. "Over the next few weeks, the campaign will be
releasing first person accounts of LGBT activists and organizers who have played key roles in this fight."
You wouldn't think a racist, gay-bashing party could survive in the 21 Century
but the Democrats never make the GOP pay for their bigotry.

BP America Inc. has paid a $5 million civil penalty for submitting false, inaccurate and
misleading reports for energy production on Southern Ute Indian Tribal lands in Colorado.
The U.S. Department of the Interior says BP America is abunch of thieving sonsbitchez
The agency says auditors found that BP used "incorrect" royalty rates and prices for
royalty payments. BP also reported well production for the wrong leases.
The company attributed the errors to problems with automated files.

He’s a smug, condescending know-it-all who isn’t as smart as he thinks he is.
I think he's smarter than you, Alex Pareen.

His feints toward open-mindedness are transparently phony, he mistakes his opinion
for common sense, and he’s preachy. Sorkin has spent years fueling the delusional
self-regard of well-educated liberals. He might be more responsible than anyone else
for the anti-democratic “everyone would agree with us if they weren’t all so stupid”
attitude of the contemporary progressive movement. And age is not improving him.
People are, broadly, sick of his shtick.
Are those the same "people: who hate liberals?
If course, if you're one of those "people" who hate liberals,
I imagine you'd find Sorkin "smug, condescending and preachy."
Yet you find Rush amazingly smart, fair and honest. Damn!
If only Sorkin could be more like the vulgar Pigboy.
