Quotes "You enabled monsters in clerical garb ... to destroy the souls of children." -- the judge, sentencing Monsignor William Lynn to 3-6 years in prison for his role in the ongoing Catholc Rape Boys organization Link Send e-mail to Bart Teabag Fight cost us $1.3 Billion Link Republican opposition to raising the debt ceiling increased the government’s borrowing costs by $1.3 billion in fiscal year 2011, and costs will continue to rise in the future, a report found. The U.S. Treasury was forced to take varying actions to avoid hitting the debt limit before Congress raised it in August, forcing borrowing costs higher on multiple Treasury securities, the report found. And because many of those securities “will remain outstanding for years to come,” the borrowing costs will continue to rise in the near future. The debt limit fight also caused the first-ever downgrade of America’s credit rating, which Standard & Poor’s blamed on Republican unwillingness to raise taxes as part of a debt reduction deal.eric Send e-mail to Bart Shop Online

Caleb Medley, theater shooting victim Comic shot in the eye, now he has brain damage Link They were having the normal opening night movie experience. They stood anxiously in line, spent too much on popcorn and soda, suffered through the movie trailers and watched the beginning of the movie. That is when evil struck. Evil came to them through a man that opened fire in that theater. Katie and Baby Hugo made it uninjured, but Caleb was struck in the face by the gun fire. Now Caleb is in the hospital. He has lost his right eye, has some brain damage and doctors have put him in a medically induced coma. CBS News estimated Caleb's medical bills would be around $2 million. Even if Caleb had $100,000 in insurance, that'd mean he only owes $1.9 million. When it comes to health care, America is fucked-up. If your Dad has a heart attack, ($500K) you could easily lose every f-ing thing. Obama tries to fix this and the GOP says, "We don't need your help, nigger." America is fucked-up in many ways. Send e-mail to Bart Subject: November 22, 1963 Bart Lee Harvey Oswald purchased the rifle he killed JFK with for $12 through mail order. Lessons never learned. Nothing ever changes. Like My Chemical Romance says, "Just another cog in the murder machine." Brian Indiana rural route Send e-mail to Bart Super-rich are hiding $21 Billion That's where the jobs went - thanks to Bush Link A global super-rich elite had at least $21 trillion (£13tn) hidden in secret tax havens by the end of 2010, according to a major study. The figure is equivalent to the size of the US and Japanese economies combined. The Price of Offshore Revisited was written by James Henry, a former chief economist at the consultancy McKinsey, for the Tax Justice Network. Henry said his $21tn is actually a conservative figure and the true scale could be $32tn. A trillion is 1,000 billion. The report comes amid growing public and political concern about Romney's tax avoidance and evasion. Some authorities have even paid for information on alleged tax evaders stolen from banks. The top headline in today's USA Today is "Romney seen as better on economy." Really, America? Tax cust for the super-rich will get us out of the hole caused by the Bush tax cuts for the super-rich? Send e-mail to Bart Subject: Olathe corn Bart, I will be enjoying fresh Olathe corn for the next three or four weeks and in fact, plan to enjoy some with a nice med-rare steak tonight. I grow a little corn (just for pure freshness), along with tomatoes, peppers and some medicinal herbs. The corn growing in my garden, along with other greenery :) is about chest high. If you are ever passing through this area drop me a line. Zedbob, Zedbob, thanks for that. I heard something on the radio about Olathe corn - that in Olathe, it's hot during the day but the temperature drops 50 degrees at night. This drop in temperature, they claim, allows more sugar to develope (verb?) and that's why Olathe corn is considered the best. I've had Olathe corn - our local grocery store sells it every August. It's damn good. Since global warming seems to have destroyed that great Bixby corn, we may have to move to Colorado to get our fresh sweet corn. The Affordable Care Act, demystified Link One of the main arguments made against the Affordable Care Act was that a majority of Americans opposed it. The implication was that voters are rational, informed actors who know best, and that the ACA therefore represented a major overreach of governmental power. Aside from the obvious problems with the notion that elected officials should govern by public opinion polls, opposition to the Affordable Care Act isn't as overwhelming as it may seem. Roughly half of Americans in a recent CNN poll favored repeal, and this number included people who opposed the bill because it doesn't go far enough. Which leaves 40-45% who think the bill goes too far. When one drills down into the Kaiser quiz, it becomes obvious just how much of this opposition is built on a Great Wall of Lies, a translation of surreal right-wing talking points into hardened - and laughably inaccurate - opinions. Send e-mail to Bart Theater Shooting & Guns Rights by Andy Richter, of all people Link I don't want to take away everyone's guns. I grew up around guns, hunted, and enjoyed every minute of it. But I don't understand why people are digging in their heels over these assault weapons. They are allowing madmen to efficiently murder much larger numbers of innocent people than they would be able to with more conventional guns. Doesn't that matter? Doesn't that trump our desire to destroy a paper target with hundreds of rounds per minute? I have shot these kinds of guns at a range, and it is exhilarating. But what is that exhilaration worth when compared to the possibility that restricted access to assault weapons (higher capacity magazines) might have saved just one life in Aurora? Or two lives? Or three? Andy, you perhaps forget that you're dealing with wild, two-headed rabid dogs who cannot be reasoned with. They don't care how many innocent people die from gunshots every day - they like their machine guns and they're never going to give them up. The NRA owns the GOP and the Democrats have refused to even get in this game. Send e-mail to Bart Subject: Penn State The NCAA is a sham enforcement game. It vacated wins, that no longer mean anything to anyone, as punishment for Penn State officials that violated federal sex crimes against children. They should have banned Penn State for the next fourteen years from having any football program of any kind. No coaches. No team. No mascot. No stadium facilities open. No recruiting. No scholarships. No alumni donations allowed. Now, that would be a reasonable punishment. The federal government needs to step in and declare Penn State football an organized crime operation and shut it down. I sincerely hope the families of the young men that were assaulted sue Joe Pat’s family and the university for every dime they made on football for the last fourteen years. His family and Penn State football need to feel the same as they did, destroyed. Jeremy P Subject: Penn State Bart, consider the fact that the players were not at fault, the people who owe their jobs to support the football games. Hotels, restaurants, ticket sellers to ushers in part time jobs. It will be many years before Penn State can climb back. What talented kid will want to go there- no Bowl games, less visibility by Pro Scouts, etc. This, I believe, will have more impact than a one year "Death Penalty". you'll know when each new issue goes up. American values? God lives on the planet Kolob? Theater Shooting Changes Nothing GOP won't allow it, Dems refuse to fight for it Link There is no political torque at all for gun control of any kind — not legislation to restrict sales of the sort of high-capacity magazines that the theater shooter used shooting 70 people in a matter of minutes, and certainly not a revived ban on the assault rifle that was the centerpiece of his arsenal. Did you know he had a 100-round clip on his assault rifle? The only reason for a 100-round clip is if you're planning on mass murder. The NRA and the GOP protect mass murderers - how can that be denied? (Both his AR-15 semiautomatic and ammunition clip were banned for a decade that ended in 2004, and there has been no serious effort since to revive those restrictions or impose any others — not after Virginia Tech, and not after Gabby Giffords.) That dynamic will not change before the election; afterward the country may well have collectively put aside its sporadic interest in reining in the most violent aspects of society — and, no matter who wins, will have a president who has professed little recent interest in taking on the NRA. There's always a chance Obama will turn democrat in his second term. If Romney wins, he could erase what little controls we have on guns. Send e-mail to Bart Janet, Brothers ambush Michael's Kids And why is Katherine Jackson still missing? Link Attorneys for Katherine Jackson are accusing Janet, Jermaine, and Randy Jackson of "ambushing" Michael Jackson's three children, Paris, Prince, and Blanket on Monday. "After exiting their vehicles, Jackson family members ran up to Michael's children as they yelled and began to aggressively grab at the cell phones in their hands. Out of concern for the well being of Prince, Paris, and Blanket Jackson, the children were forced to leave their home and were taken to a safe location. An altercation ensued shortly thereafter and law enforcement arrived at the scene. "It was learned that one of the family members who was part of the ambush admitted that a plan has been in place for the last three years to remove Katherine Jackson from her home and her beloved grandchildren. Prince, Paris, and Blanket Jackson have not heard from their grandmother since she left their home nine days ago to attend a series of her sons' concerts on their Unity Tour. She never made the shows. Despite efforts to interview Katherine Jackson yesterday, LA County Sheriffs confirmed that they were denied access to Mrs. Jackson by security for one of her children." Janet got into a scuffle with Paris on Monday Janet confronted the 14-year-old heiress about making private family matters public involving the matriarch of the iconic pop family. Put another way, "Stop telling people what we're doing." "Paris got into a scuffle with her aunt Janet upon entering the house because she told Paris she had to stop posting family information on Twitter," a source close to the situation tells us. "Janet physically tried to take Paris' cell phone from her, but she wouldn't give it up. It was just a very, very unfortunate situation that didn't need to occur. If Katherine isn't physically capable of taking care of the kids anymore, then the Courts are going to get involved, and very quickly. The kids can't be caught in the middle of the ongoing drama of the Jackson family, period," the source added. This is a big mess. One could just say, "Oh, those Jacksons" but there are three kids involved. If Katheryn has NOT been kidnapped, why isn't she speaking to her grandchildren? If Katheryn has NOT been kidnapped, why isn't she speaking to her personal lawyers? There are hundreds of millions of dollars at stake. I'm reminded of Godfather One, when Vito was negotiating with the heads of the other Five Families to bring Michael Corleone back from exile in Old Italy. "I'm a superstitious man -- and if some 'unlucky accident' should befall him -- if he should get shot in the head by a 'police officer' -- or if he -- should 'hang himself' in his jail cell -- or if he's struck by a bolt of lightning -- then I'm going to blame some of the people in this room. And that, I do not forgive." I hope Katherine doesn't "fall down some steps" while she's "not being kidnapped." Send e-mail to Bart Subject: firewalkers Bart, Tony Robbins and firewalking in San Jose?!?!?!?!? Perfect fit. Those morons are looking for the easy way out to spiritual perfection. Tony tells them that whatever they do is right (sort of Tom Cruise in Magnolia) and firewalking gives them that one up on spiritual trumping physical. Give me James Brown doin' the Hotfoot any day. I had a girlfriend in Boston who dumped me because I said, quote, "I'm not going to a fucking Tony Robbins concert." She tried to claim that it wasn't a concert it was motivational. Eric X 614 formerly 617 I don't get the whole firewalking thing. I've seen them do it on TV and I just figured it was fixed like an Oral Robert's revival rally. Has anyone ever walked on hot coals and not burned their feet? Subject: firewalkers are real The thing that irks me about coal walking through the power of faith is that it's not faith at all. The research has been done to prove that it's a combination of how coals radiate heat and human walking technique. Don't walk too fast, don't run, keep calm, don't grip squeeze too hard with your toes, etc. I can almost udnerstand why people buy irrational things that haven't been disproven, but for things like coal-walking that science has analyzed and figured out, on TV? (Mythbusters did an episode.)
