Obama widens lead

  Link

Obama has opened a sizable lead over Mitt Romney in polling ahead of the election as
both Democrats and Republicans are increasingly convinced that he is going to win re-election,
according to The Washington Times/Zogby Poll released Sunday.

In the latest poll, Obama drew 49 percent support while Thurston garnered 41 percent.
The previous Times/Zogby polls showed the race a dead heat — including just before the
national party conventions, when they were tied with 45.7 percent of the vote each.
Even with third-party candidates added to the mix, the results barely changed.

Obama’s support is growing even as voters are split on whether they are better off from four
years ago and even as voters said they weren’t happy with the president’s handling of the
attacks on U.S. diplomatic posts three weeks ago.

Ryan Can't Explain Tax Plan
Says it would take too long

 Link

Paul Ryan says "it would take me too long to go through all the math" involved in the tax plan
he and Mitt Romney are proposing.

Ryan said that their plan--a 20 percent across-the-board income tax cut--would focus on deductions
and closing tax loopholes for  the rich, but declined to offer specifics.

The Obama campaign seized on Ryan's bullshit:

Romney has promised $5 trillion in tax cuts skewed toward millionaires and billionaires, but refused
to say how he'd pay for them without raising taxes on the middle class or exploding the deficit.
He's promised to repeal ObamaCare, but refused to say what he'd replace it with to protect the 129
million Americans with pre-existing conditions. He's promised to repeal Wall Street reform, but
refused to say what he'd replace it with so that big banks aren't writing their own rules again.

The Thursten camp continutes to lurch towards defeat with crap like this.

Why can't they get anything right?
And this is the best to GOP has to offer?

Dole to Romney: Losing isn't the end of the world
Thurston needs advice from someone who's been there

 Link

Bob Dole reflected on losing his 1996 presidential bid and finding renewed meaning
in life in an op-ed in Friday’s Washington Post.

Dole recalled overcoming the self-doubt that haunted him following his ass-kicking
from Bill Clinton by launching himself into new projects.

"Sure, losing an election hurts, but I’ve experienced worse," he wrote. "And at an age
when every day is precious, brooding over what might have been is self-defeating."

Dole’s reflection comes as Romney’s campaign heads into the wood-chipper.

Romney Drags Down GOPs
They can't get far enough away from him

  Link

Thurston's collapsing campaign is beginning to hurt Republican chances in key congressional
races, risking their hopes of taking the Senate as a bastion against a second Obama term.

More and more Republican congressional candidates are distancing themselves from R&R as they
are hit by ads from their Democratic opponents linking them to Romney and his boy toy Paul Ryan.

With Romney still reeling from one bad poll after another in swing states, the Obama campaign
opened up a new front on Friday, sending Biden on a two-day visit to Florida to warn the elderly
that a Romney-Ryan victory would mean new taxes on their social security benefits.

Biden, in excerpts from his speech released in advance, said: "Right now, the majority of seniors
don't have to pay taxes on their social security benefits … But if governor Romney's tax plan goes
into effect, it could mean everyone, everyone, would have to pay more taxes on the social security
benefits they now receive."

The GOP's problem is their product sucks.
Bush should never have "won" two terms, but Gore and Kerry couldn't list the facts.

Why is Thurston Losing?

 Link

There are three explanations for Willard's implosion. The first is that the Obama campaign
was able to define the Republican candidate before Mitt could introduce himself to voters.
Before the conventions, Democrats began running 'The Man from Bain' commercials that
explained how Mitt Romney actually made his fortune as a "vulture capitalist." This heightened
the perception that Romney's business experience was not the sort needed to help out the
middle class; the message was, "Mitt is a job destroyer not a job creator."

The Obama strategy caused the Romney campaign to go on the defensive. Mitt fought one
media fire after another: The correct date for his departure from Bain Capital, his role there,
his tax returns, and on and on. Then Romney selected Paul Ryan as his running mate.
This move could have boosted the campaign but didn't because Mitt was so vague on
policy specifics, voters assumed the notorious Ryan Budget represented Romney's thinking.

Next came a string of epic gaffes.

Can anyone save the GOP?
The GOP needs a sane leader to drag them
back to reality. Problem is, they don't do sane

  Link

Could the Republican Party face an impossible Catch-22 when it comes to excising the crazy
from their party? This is a party, after all, that has numerous candidates who are running for
office on a platform of ending the direct election of senators. It’s a party whose most
prominent voice in the media goes around calling women “sluts,” and one with a Senate
candidate who talks nonsense about the biology of rape. Most notably, it’s a party with a
presidential candidate who simply parrots back the party’s conventional wisdom (47 percent!)
 — and who sounds totally out of touch and not a little insulting to most voters. So what’s next?

Indeed, with Mitt Romney falling behind in the polls, there’s been a fair amount of speculation
this week about the effects of a Romney loss on the Republican Party. The Hotline’s Reid Wilson
concluded, for example, that “the fallout from a Romney loss has the potential to reverberate
through the Republican Party for a decade” by pushing the GOP further and further away
from moderate, voter-friendly positions.

For several years we've seen the GOP drift farther and farther to the right.
Screw women, screw Blacks, screw Mexicans, screw gays and screw paying our taxes.

When they lose in November, Rush Limbaugh will say it's because Romney was "too Leftist."
Ho obviously loves that fat paycheck more than his country.

 Subject: Grandma is a Commie!

I was listening to Romney and Ryan and OMG I just realized that Grandma is a Communist!
She thinks that she is entitled to get Social Security and Medicare after paying in for a lifetime.
Quit being a victim Grandma! She thinks shes entitled to healthcare, to food, to housing!
What's wrong with her? Get a f-ing job!

Paul Ryan says it best though. He wants to privatize Social Security and Medicare in order to
"break the back" of the collectivist philosophy. Ryan understands that to make money is the
essence of human morality. Ryan understands that people who have earned a lot of wealth
deserve to enjoy that wealth and that it is immoral to force them to the old, tired, sick, and poor.
These people, like Grandma, are nothing more than looters. How dare she? How dare she!?

So Grandma - I'm voting Republican this year. Romney and Ryan are coming after you.
I'm going to get my tax cut and you can go get your own food and home and medical care.
I'm kicking Grandma to the curb. I'm a Republican. Go Mitt! WooHoo!

The Football Refs Strike

On MSNBC, Chris Hayes said the strike was about 1/3 of ONE percent of NFL revenues.

This is very, very telling about business in America and I've mentioned this 100 times.

The NFL has, they say, one of the best brands in America.
One pundit suggested only Apple has a better brand.

And what did they do?
They risked it ALL for 1/3 of ONE percent.

They threw quality control out the window for one third of a penny.
This is American business greed gone wild right before our eyes
and it's also why government is needed to keep the greedy SOBs in line.

The Repugs say, "Let the market rule, because the business man is TOO SMART
to risk his company trying to save a few pennies - THAT'S what regulates the market,"
but clearly that's false and this is proof.

Remember in 1996, ValuJet  Flight 592 crashed in the Florida Everglades,
killing all 110 people on board (This was the subject of the premier of CSI Miami)

ValuJet knew it was illegal to transport hazardous materials in the cargo section of the plane,
but they wanted to save $50 so they went ahead and broke the law, killing 110 people.

The food industry is the same way.

If some meat MIGHT have e-Coli, they go ahead and ship it anyway because they want to hit
their quota and make their bonus. It's not that they intentionally mean to murder so many people,
they just figure, "That probably won't happen"  and in many/mosy cases it doesn't - but
sometines the inevitable happens.

This is what American business is all about.

If a big American company can make $100 million dollars profit - perfect.
But if they skirt the law, they might make $101 million and they risk EVERYTHING
on that last tiny sliver of profit and that's why government must be powerful enough
to make the big boys knuckle under and play by the rules.

American business and greed go to gether like Peanut butter and jelly.
They can't help themselves - they'll take ANY risk for another nickle
and the NFL's stupidity proves that for the thousanth time.

Big business loves smaller government because they want to cut those corners.
Nevermind that it's suicide for themselves, their greed drives them crazy.

The NFL, risking their integrity over 1/3 of ONE percent proves that's true.

The GOP says we need less government.

Truth is, we need more.

What if Romney wasn't such a dick?

Think how much trouble we might've been in if Romney's message
had gone something like this:

"Obama is a good man, loves his family, loves his country - but it just didn't work.
He tried his best, God love him, but it just didn't work.  But I think I have more
experience in the business sector and I think I can get America moving again.
If you give me a chance, I promise to focus like a laser beam on creating more jobs.
I'll work day and night for poor families and middle-class families and I won't stop
working until everyone who wants a job has one."

That message might've worked, but that's not how the GOP plays.

 Instead, we got:

"It's a discgrace the way he cow-tows to terrorists and apologizes for America."

Mitt, it's like you were trying to lose.
