Even in a news environment dominated by melodramatic, often bogus, group narratives,
the Susan Rice affair stands out. What began as a tragedy in Benghazi has degenerated into
a classic Washington farce: with Fox News and its allies pushing GOP political correctness,
politicians faking indignation for TV cameras, and “mainstream” pundits advancing a false
storyline for dramatic purposes.
This is a crazy way to choose a Secretary of State. Unless we’ve degenerated to the point
that the dopiest possible answer to a problem is always the default option. ha ha
I hold no particular brief for Susan Rice. Obama can nominate her to replace Hillary
or he can nominate somebody else. It’s all the same to me.
Maybe a touch of nostalgia is even in order. To see a Washington media pile-on this
transparently phony, one would have to hark back to 2000, when Al Gore supposedly
claimed he’d invented the Internet. Or to even to 1996, when Hillary Clinton’s indictment
in the make-believe Whitewater scandal was supposedly a done deal.

Unknown gunmen shot dead a senior female government worker on Monday,
five months after her predecessor was killed in a bomb attack.
Violence against women appears to be on the rise in Afghanistan, which activists and
some lawmakers blame on what they say is waning interest in women's rights on the
part of President Hamid Karzai's government, claims he denies.
Nadia Sediqqi, acting head of the women's affairs department in Laghman province,
was killed as she headed to work in the capital Mehtar Lam, said a governor's spokesman.
They don't respect women?
I'll repeat my earlier call to free the women of Afghanistan.
Let's relocate every female who wants to escape and let those religious
conservatives screw their sheep and their goats for a few generations.

Pot smokers formally gained the right to light up in Colorado on Monday as Governor John Hickenlooper
signed into effect a measure legalizing marijuana for adults in what proponents hailed as a "historic day."
Hickenlooper's signature put Colorado on a possible collision course with Obama, who f-ing HATES legal pot.
"Voters were loud and clear on Election Day," Hickenlooper said. "We will begin working immediately
with the General Assembly and state agencies to implement Amendment 64."
Hickenlooper, a Democrat who had opposed the amendment but said he would respect the will of voters,
had been required by law to issue the executive order, or "official declaration of the vote," within 30 days
of certification by Colorado's secretary of state on December 6.
That's exactly how President No-Respect-for-the-Voters should handle this,
by saying he was against the law but he's going to allow Colorado to set their own course.

Now that recreational marijuana has been legalized in Colorado and Washington, Obama is weighing
his options, and, reportedly, none of his options seem to be “let the voters decide, because it’s harmless.”
Instead Obama is looking to have a judge declare the state regulations invalid, or are out to browbeat states
into recriminalizing the demon weed by withholding federal money. (A similar strategy got the drinking age
raised to 21 in every state, though it required legislation.)
Andrew Sullivan is not thrilled. There is some talk of “giving them hell.”
Libertarians have been mocking the liberal Obama supporters dumb enough to think he secretly supported
legalization, but most of the liberals I know have always been aware that the president’s been awful on
drug war issues. We just hoped he’d be persuadable, or susceptible to pressure.
Why does Onama have to be worse than Bush on this?
He "looked forward" when the Bush bastards and Wall Street stole millions of homes,
killed millions of jobs and emptied the savings accounts of millions of families,
...but he cracks down on pot and poker as to they were ruining people's lives.

Hostess said it used wages that were supposed to help fund employee pensions for the company's
operations as it sank toward bankruptcy. It isn't clear how many workers were affected by the
move or how much money never wound up in their pension plans as promised.
That means they stole a lot more money than they're letting on.
It's like BP saying, "There's a slight trickle of leaking oil," before
pleading guilty to lying their asses off about the size of the mega-gusher.
After the company said in August 2011 that it would stop making pension contributions,
the foregone wages weren't put toward the pension. Nor were they restored.
The bastards filed for bankruptcy protection in January and shut down last month following a strike
by one of the unions representing Hostess workers. A judge is overseeing the sale of company assets.
Oh sure, blame the greedy workers who wanted their 30-year pension plans funded as promised.
Don't mention that the bosses gave themselves million dollar bonuses just before shutting down.
You can always depend on the Whore Street Journal to give you the anti-family side of the news.
Gregory Rayburn, Hostess's chief executive officer, said in an interview it is "terrible"
that employee wages earmarked for the pension were steered elsewhere by the company.
"I think it's like a lot of things in this case," he added. "It's not a good situation to have."
The maneuver probably doesn't violate federal law because the money Hostess stole
didn't come directly from employees, experts said.
"It's what lawyers call betrayal without remedy," said lawyer James P. Baker.
"It's sad, but that stuff does happen, unfortunately."
Yes, it happens every day in American business.
If there's no penalty for raiding workers' pensions, expect that to keep happening.
