Brad Paisley and LL Cool J in
bruhahaLink It only took a few hours for a six-minute song about race to spark a backlash after its release Monday. The song by the unlikely duo of Brad Paisley and LL Cool J, "Accidental Racist," was slammed by music critics and fans alike for its attempt at a dialogue on race between two men from starkly different backgrounds with lyrics like "If you don't judge my do-rag … I won't judge your red flag" and "If you don't judge my gold chains … I'll forget the iron chains." The country singer, 40, and his rapper counterpart, 45, say the national debate sparked by their song, released on Paisley's new album, "Wheelhouse," is exactly what they wanted to happen. "I'm not really sure we're going to find any answers but it was the idea that we were asking the question," Paisley said with his duet partner on " Good Morning America." "Martin Luther King says that darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can," LL Cool J said. "Hate can't drive out hate, only love can. So what we're talking about is compassion." Send e-mail to Bart Subject: Don't worry about North Korea I have one word for you for why you don’t need to worry about North Korea, China. They are completely dependent on them for everything, and China has had about enough. “On Sunday, China’s new president, Xi-Jinping, stated “no one should be allowed to throw a region and even the whole world into chaos for selfish gains.” The unusually harsh tone came a day after Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told UN Secretary General that China “does not allow any trouble making on China’s doorstep.” Link Thing is, it is in China’s best interest to keep the status quo (keeps us from focusing on Taiwan, among other things) and if they play this right and let things escalate a bit more, they get to swoop in and play hero. It’s in our best interest that they do step in, and all our rhetoric is aimed at pushing them to do so. Remember that the only reason there is a North Korea is because China intervened in the Korean war, otherwise, the South was winning. Also keep in mind that China has some significant financial and trade interests with South Korea as well as with us. I think they are just trying to figure out how to put that little shit in a time out without upsetting the status quo. Hubcap Send e-mail to Bart These GOP senators say Newtown was no big

Bloomberg to Rank Gun Nuts
by Sarah Parnass Link A coalition of U.S. mayors released plans this morning to take members of Congress to task for what the group perceives as votes against gun control. Mayors Against Illegal Guns, Bloomberg's group, will give lawmakers a letter grade and issue a scorecard based on their gun-policy record, a spokesman said. The system is intended to counterbalance the NRA's scoring political candidates on their friendliness toward gun owners. The NRA's letter ratings have translated to bribes for candidates who score favorably, and the organization has used the process as a tool of i nfluence on hot-button political debates, like Justice Kagan's confirmation, which they lost. Butt Mike, the whore NRA's already done your work for you. If the NRA gives Jim Inofe a TEN, you'd give him a zero, right? If the NRA gives Dennis Kucinich a zero, that's a TEN for the Bloomberg folks, right? Work smarter, not harder.

Subject: Ted Rall I think Ted is right using the word foreigners instead of terrorists. Unless you think that that all of those drone attacks had smart bombs that could only hurt terrorists and magically did not kill women and children that were in those same buildings. For some reason I can't get people to focus on the three options: 1. We can do nothing and let the terrorists build more and more airplane bombs. 2. We can have our military invade every country that is arming terrorists. 3. We can use drones. Those to my Left on this question are strongly against 2 and 3. I like Option 3, I must assume you prefer Option 1. <snippage> Here is my question to you. If you are told someone is a terrorist does that make it OK to do whatever is necessary to eliminate them? Even if that includes killing others around them which might include children? I think Americans are being increasingly brought to the position of "hell yeah!". And that makes me sad where our country is going. Bill inTN Bill, nobody wants kids to die but this is the real world with real dangers. Doing nothing while terrorists build more and more airplane bombs is not keeping America safe. Send e-mail to Bart They Rape Kids in Los Angeles LA Diocese to pay $10,000,000 to sex victims Link While its former leader, Cardinal Roger M. Mahony, gathered with cardinals in Rome to choose the new pro-rape pope, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles reached a $10 million settlement with four men who say they were abused by a former priest who has been criminally convicted in a separate case. Damn, $2.5 million per victim? At that rate, the Church will be broke by Saturday. Send e-mail to Bart Subject: North Korea Link Send e-mail to Bart Behind the North Korea Crisis
Opinions
or facts? from consortiumnews.com Link Reporter: There’s a lot of disinformation and patriotic reporting coming out of the U.S. Tell us what is going on right now. Christine Hong, a professor at the University of California at Santa Cruz, H: All we see is media reporting that singularly ascribes blame to North Korea, which is portrayed as a kind of unquestionable evil, so what the U.S. is doing in response to the supposed provocation seems eminently justified. I think we are in a crisis point. It doesn’t feel dissimilar to the kind of media rhetoric that surrounded the run-up to the U.S. invasion in Iraq. During that time also, there was a steady drumbeat to war. … Whoa! Consortiumnews.com is acting like this lady is THE American expert on North Korea. This Hong lady might be honest and she might be right but she's anything but unbiased. She's not framing anything as "The way I see it" or "In my opinion," she's giving us FACTS. You say: singularly ascribes blame to North Korea Really? It's wrong to blame the nutjob screaming "I'll nuke your f-ing asses?" Kim Jong Nut is is portrayed as a kind of unquestionable evil? How lucky we are that Ms. Hong sees the softer side of nuclear blackmail. And, of course, this "feels" JUST LIKE the Bush-Cheney-Rummy lies because all circumstances are the same, all presidents are the same and all lies are of equal value. In a recent Pentagon press conference, [Defense Secretary] Chuck Hagel was asked whether or not the U.S. sending D2 stealth bombers from Missouri to fly and conduct a sortie over South Korea and drop what the DOD calls inert munitions in a simulated run against North Korea could be understood as provocative. He said no, they can’t be understood as provocative. And it was dutifully reported as such. There you go again. IS that provacative? You sure make it sound so, but with your obvious bias, we wouldsn't know if they've been running this same exercise every year since 1956. Wouldn't it make more sense to stay somewhat neutral? You make is sound like Wartime Barry is threatening Good Ol' Kim for no reason. What has happened since Kim Jong Un has come into his leadership position in North Korea is that the U.S. has had a policy of regime change. Really? Is this policy of regime change a STATED Obama position? Or did you have another "feeling" and failed to tell us. BTW, Ms Hong, your word and the President's don't hold equal weight. I'll believe him over you until I have a reason not to. You have not served the "Kim isn't that bad" side very well. Thatcher Wrecked Great Britain She was Reagan with a larger vagina Link It would be a crime to allow hagiography and personality to distract from what made her so deeply despised: She ruined Britain. Let’s skip the rise-to-power biographical crap — watch the Meryl Streep movie — and get to the point. She intentionally immiserated millions of English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish people in order to carry out a liberalization of the British economy that benefited the wealthy at the expense of nearly everyone else. Decades after she left office, the country hasn’t recovered. As the trade unions were broken “The City” — London’s Wall Street — experienced the deregulation and subsequent astronomic growth that would eventually lead to Libor-rigging and, paired with similar deregulatory efforts in the States, the spectacular international financial catastrophe itself.
