Subject: US in 1945 and N. Korea today

DanD’s note comparing the US nuking of Japan and the Korean situation today is silly.

The projected Allied casualties for a land invasion of Japan was over one million.
I say Allied but I doubt many French, English or Russian troops would have perished.
Never mind that Japan had a 3 million man army on the main island. Given their resolve
to die for the emperor I’d write off at least 2.5 million of them and they also had a sizeable
civilian militia . Months of saturation bombing as a prelude to invasion would probably have
killed another million civilians. Also remember what happened on Saipan where civilians
committed suicide rather than surrender because their crazy leader told them they should.

May there never be a need for another A-bomb, but the 2 that have been used in war so far
have saved millions of lives, both Japanese and American.

Anyone who thinks we had that war in the bag and that we didn't need to drop our 2 Nukes
on japan have not studied the battles of Iwo Jima and (more importantly) Okinawa. Okinawa
was a preview of what invading Japan was going to be like. Read some books about how
horrible that battle was and THEN multiply it by 100. When they estimate that we would
have suffered 1 million casualties, they weren't kidding. We basically would have had to kill
every person in Japan to win and our losses would have been horrific. I hate to stay it but
dropping those 2 bombs was better for everyone involved.

joked about Meghan being murdered in a recent column.

Coulter, the She-Nazi from Berlin,, made the joke in a piece on Wednesday:

Obama has been draping himself in families of the children murdered in Newtown. MSNBC's
Martin Bashir suggested that Republican senators need to have a member of their families killed
for them to support the Democrats' gun proposals. (Let's start with Meghan McCain!)

Fox Nation, which excerpted Coulter's piece, appeared to have deleted its story.

The Vatican is investigating seven priests from the troubled Legion of Christ religious order
for alleged sexual abuse of minors – evidence that the scandal over the order's pedophile founder

Two other Legion priests are being investigated for alleged sacramental violations,
believed to involve abusing spiritual direction and other pastoral care to have
inappropriate sexual relations with women.

The investigations mark the first known Vatican action against Legion priests following the
revelations of the Legion's founder, who was long held up as a model by the Vatican
despite credible accusations – later proven – that he was a drug addict who raped and
molested his seminarians.

Tha Catholic Church is the largest cesspool of rapists in the world and nobody does anything about it.

There is a question I can't seem to find the answer to and was hoping you
and your audience of experts might be able to help.

What, exactly, is it that Kim Jong Un wants?
What is the US, or anyone else, not giving him or his country?
What does he want the rest of the world to start or stop doing?

If he just wants to start a war for no good reason,
shouldn't the United States Iraq debacle dissuade him?

If you happen to have some sort of explanation in something resembling coherent terms,

Of the 2,000 invitees to Margaret Thatcher's funeral, one glaring omission stands out.
Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner has been left off the list, thanks to
continued soreness over the Falklands war, and the objections of Thatcher's family.

After highlights from the list of invited heads of state, high-profile officials and other names w
ere released Thursday, Downing Street confirmed Fernandez's absence was deliberate.

The funeral plans involve the fanfare of a war hero's sendoff: More than 700 members of
the armed forces will be involved in the service celebrating Thatcher's Falklands War successes.

This will be a "theme" funeral, they say, celebrating her "great success" in beating up Argentina.

I guess we're lucky Reagan's funeral didn't have a "I kicked Nutmeg's ass" theme.

Dear Bart,
What is it with you and this obsession with airplane bomb makers
from Al Queda that we are taking out with drones ?

No obsession, it was in the news and the subject makes people so angry
they're not able to answer very short, very simple questions about it.

Jeez....when was the last time we had to confront airplane bomb makers ?
That was the cargo packages from Yemen about 3 years ago that went nowhere
(and in fact some European intelligence agencies discounted the seriousness of the threat).

Have you been to an airport lately?
Airplane bombs are taken so seriously, you can be arrested for saying those two words.

What is more important is that we are killing all kinds of people that really
don't have all that much to do with that Holy Grail....the Terrorist Threat.
Collateral damage all over the place. Doesn't seem like a a policy that is
earning us any Brownie points.

Clearly you're angry, but why be angry with me?
I don't want anyone to die, but that happens in the real world.

We conducted an aerial war in Vietnam that really killed alot of innocents,
and of course really pissed off people in the countryside. And now we're
making the same mistake. Indiscriminate killing pisses people off.
And we are reaping the benefits of that misguided policy.
