For Barnes & Noble For Amazon Quotes "Last week's announcement demonstrates the sort of political vision and foresight from the White House we've been seeking for a long time. I must admit, I was expecting a yellow light from the White House, but this light looks a lot more green-ish than I had hoped. The White House is basically saying to Washington and Colorado: Proceed with caution." -- Ethan Nadelmann, executive director of the Drug Policy Alliance, a pro-pot advocacy group Link Send e-mail to Bart Making the Case to Hit Syria If they'd listened to me, this would already be over Link Congress is holding its first public hearing about U.S. plans for military intervention in Syria as Obama seeks to convince skeptical Americans and their lawmakers about the need to respond to last month's alleged sarin gas attack outside Damascus. Sec of State Kerry, Def Secretary Hagel and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey were to appear before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Tuesday. A classified briefing open to all members of Congress was to take place as well. The president's request for congressional authorization for limited military strikes against Syria is at the heart of all the discussions planned in Washington over the next several days as Obama sends his top national security advisers to the Capitol for a flurry of briefings. And with the outcome of any vote in doubt in a war-weary Congress, Obama was to meet Tuesday with leaders of the House and Senate armed services committees, the foreign relations committees and the intelligence committees. Obama won conditional support Monday from two of his fiercest foreign policy critics, McCain and Fabulous. A congressional vote against Obama's request "would be catastrophic in its consequences" for U.S. credibility, McCain told reporters outside the White House following an hour-long private meeting with the president. I can't even begin to count he ways Obama has screwed this up. His biggest mistake is he handled Syria like he handled the Teabagger problem - he simply ignored it until it got to be a 2,000 pound elephant and now he's wondering how this could've possbly happened. Then he sent Kerry out Friday to say we had to attack RIGHT f-ing NOW and then on Saturday, Obama said there was no hurry, making Kerry look stupid. Now he's got Snowden-emboldened Putin warning him NOT to attack, then China chimed in and warned Obama off, too. Why is it that every time Obama gets in a fight, he acts like it's his first time? Remember The Godfather? After Solozzo shot Vito six f-ing times, Sonny wanted a full-scale war. Tom Hagen told Sonny, "The other families won't stand for it," and Sonny's reply was perfect: "Then they give me Sollozzo." That's how it works. No, I don't expect Putin and China to hand Assad over to the US, but if Putin and China want us to leave Assad alone, THEY need to go to Assad and say, "No more gassing. If you continue with the gassing, we won't be able to stop Obama from slapping you." That's how the world works - do I need to be giving Russia and China advice, too? Reality Check: I think most Democrats knew Obama wasn't really ready for the Big Chair back in 2008. After all, he'd only had three years on the national stage but half the Democrats and our whore media wanted anybody but Hillary and they just didn't care what the cost was. Now we're finding out. Let's all say a prayer (just kidding) that Bush's reputation as the Worst President Ever is still intact when this Syrian crisis is over. Oh, and that advice I gave Obama yesterday? Once again, Obama didn't listen. Now he says he's going to attack Syria with or without congressional approval. Is it too early to have a drink? Send e-mail to Bart Subject: Obama follows Constitution Wow! President Obama decided to follow the Constitution on invading Syria, letting Congress approve it rather than just breaking the law. Feds List Legal Pot Rules Obama finally comes thru with a logical decision Link The feds say they will not sue to stop Colorado and Washington from allowing recreational pot use. The DoJ outlined eight top priority areas for its enforcement of marijuana laws. These 8 areas of enforcement are: 1. Preventing the distribution of marijuana to minors. 2. Preventing revenue from the sale of marijuana from going to criminal enterprises, gangs and cartels. 3. Preventing the diversion of marijuana from states where it is legal under state law in some form to other states 4. Preventing state authorized marijuana activity from being used as a cover or pretext for the trafficking of other illegal drugs or other illegal activity 5. Preventing violence and the use of firearms in the cultivation and distribution of marijuana 6. Preventing drugged driving and exacerbation of other adverse public health consequences associated with marijuana use. 7. Preventing the growing of marijuana on public lands and the attendant public safety and environmental dangers posed by marijuana production on public lands 8. Preventing marijuana possession or use on federal property. The announcement follows marble-mouthed comments in December by Obama, who said it did "not make sense" for the feds to go after recreational drug users in states with legalized recreational use of marijuana. I was hoping we could all take this week celebrate Obama's enlightenment on marijuana policy, but noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Subject: Pizza Hut analogy (Your) Pizza Hut example (needs to be) revised rationally. Yes, you have to change the Pizza Hut analogy because it forces you to agree with me. It's my Kobayashi Maru. You hear on the news that two guys started to rough up an old lady and they will probably keep doing it and they even gassed her. The lady and the 2 boys are on the other side of the planet. <snippage> Michael B. Actually, no. They've been in our living rooms every night for two years now. We have four destroyers and an aircraft carrier sitting off Syria's coast. And sure, there are dozens of reasons to just look the other way and there are dozens of reasons why Democrats refuse to follow their president. One thing is clear: Democrats wouldn't stand behind their president if they were at a midnight showing of Batman and he had the only bulletproof vest. Send e-mail to Bart Free Math Tutoring

Racist Sheriff Gets a Nanny Judge appoints monitor for Pink Panty Sheriff Link A federal judge will appoint a monitor to watch over the Pink Panty Sheriff, Joe Arpaio. His office had been found to have racially profiled Latino drivers during a crackdown on Darkies. U.S. District Judge Murray Snow said the racist sheriff, who styles himself as "America's biggest dick," needed an independent check on his actions to prevent such profiling from continuing in the future. "I intend to approve a monitor," Snow said of his plans, despite stiff opposition from the racist sheriff. A ruling outlining changes to be made at the sheriff's office could come as early as mid-September. Arpaio, 81, has attracted national attention with his racist stance on Darkies. He faces an investigation and lawsuit from the U.S. Justice Department, which accuses him of civil rights abuses. Quotes "The greatest norm, the highest norm in international law, is that you don’t attack another country unilaterally without the authorization of the United Nations.” -- Alan Grayson Link You know I like Alan Grayson but what he just said is absolute bullshit. He just said, "America can NEVER take any military action without PERMISSION from Russia and China." Does he really think we have to beg Russia and China for permission on every military decision? Or did he just have a bad moment of misspeak? Send e-mail to Bart Subject: Re: "Russia sends warships to Syria..." Bart, I know you dislike Snowden. But, how in the world do you conflate Russia moving to protect its naval base in Syria with the Snowden issue? What could Snowden possibly have to do with this? Confused in Carolina... Madurobob Bob, when Snowden went to Russia, he put Putin on the spot. He forced Putin to have to appear tough or he'd lose face at home. Snowden, personally, is responsible for the Mariana Trenching of US-Russia relations. If Snowden had stayed in Hong Kong, Russia might not be sending war ships to the Mediterranean. Send e-mail to Bart Jon Stewart back Tonight I hope he still has the white beard. Send e-mail to Bart Subject: Syria action With regards to your comment as to what Obama should do regarding Syria. Well said. Agree with every syllable. Joe Subject: Obama/Syria Bart, I agree with you almost completely on your Syria comments. I'm tired of the US involvement in the Middle East, but the world can't allow assholes like Assad to use chemical weapons, and we're still a world leader. It's a very difficult situation, and I'm damned glad we have a smart, thoughtful guy in charge. It's the toughest job around, and I voted for Obama to do it. I'm not one bit sorry. Like you, I'll trust his judgment. That depends (big sigh) on which state you're in Link On Thursday, the Justice Department issued its long-awaited reaction on recreational pot. The verdict: Marijuana is still illegal under federal law, but the feds will essentially stand back and let states continue their pot experiments, at least for now. It's a big deal that the Justice Department didn't file suit to stop states from setting up a regulated, legal marijuana market. Now, weed proponents will get their chance to "show that legalizing pot is better, less costly, and more humane than the last 75 years of prohibition — all with the federal government's blessing," say the AP's Gene Johnson and Pete Yost. This is "nothing short of historic," Dan Riffle of the Marijuana Policy Project tells the Whore AP. "It's a very big deal for the DOJ to say that if the states want to legalize marijuana, that's fine. Everybody in this movement should be thrilled." There is a catch, of course: If the states that legalize pot fail to keep it away from kids, out of the hands of cartels, off the black market, and away from other states and federal lands, the feds will step in and crack down. Also, individual federal prosecutors will have some discretion to ignore the new, more-lenient guidance from the Justice Department. And since it's not a change in law, another administration — or even Obama — could change the rules without warning. The anti-science, anti-logic opponents are saying we have a bad precedent here, in that once you tell the states, "You don't have to follow federal laws if you don't want to," you open the can of worms. The easy/smart way to make the contradiction go away would be to legalize pot nationally. Or at the very least, remove it from the ridiculous Heroin and LSD category. I saw one estimate - that state would gain $450M thru taxes. If that holds up, only the most backward Southern states will deny themselves those extra millions to please their non-existent God. Send e-mail to Bart CBS and Racism Quotes "I'm not racist - I'm just Texan." -- Big Brother's Aaryn Gries, after saying multiple, super-racist things, Link I ran into this graphic while writing the Cali Trip report. It was dates Aug 20 and I thought I'd publish it in case it comes true. This Amanda is the Queen Bitch of all time. She has been harrassing and bullying other members of the house (mostly Elissa) to the extent that the Big Brother message boards have been calling on CBS to invade the game and pull Amanda out. If CBS fixed the $500K game so the Queen Bitch wins, you will hear howling. As of this writing, Amanda is scheduled to go home Thursday night - unless CBS steps in and hands her some bullshit Get Out of Jail FREE Card which will cause massive howling. Sidebar: On Big Brother and Survivor and other reality shows, there's more than just the game. Besides competing to win the prize, you also get to showcase yourself to America. In Big Brother's case, you are on TV and the live Internet feed for hundreds of hours. Two of this year's "houseguests" have already been fired from their jobs for incredibly racist and hateful comments but they won't know that they've been fired until they leave the house. A third player is hanging onto his job by a thread, but he doesn't know it yet. The Queen Bitch is a real estate agent, or was. Amanda doesn't know it yet but her monsterous behavior has made her one of the most hated women in America. When she leaves that house, she's got a wild reality coming. For the first time in her life, when she walks down the street, strangers are going to be yelling the "C-word" at her by the hundreds - perhaps thousands - what's that going to be like? Who will want a racist, hateful Queen Bitch as their real estate agent? Maybe she can get some clients from the Chik-Fil-A Republicans? A recently evicted houseguest, Aaryn, is now known nationwide as a terribly racist person. Again, strangers on the street are going to be screaming "racist bitch" at her for perhaps years. They seem to forget they're on TV and every word they say is being broadcast. The chance at winning the $500K was their goal, but several of them have now become not quite as hated as George Zimmerman, but being in public is going to be VERY tough for them for years. Sidebar: Things have gotten so bad inside the Big Brother house, the bullying victim, Elissa, has said she's afraid Amanda could actually kill her. In Season 2 of Big Brother, a male houseguest was removed from the house for putting a knife to the throat of a female houseguest, resulting in a since-then knife-ban for the house. If Amanda DID find a way to harm or kill Elissa, CBS would rightly be named in the lawsuit. ...and don't write and say "Reality TV is stupid." If your brain is stuck on Syria 24/7, you're going to snap before I do. Send e-mail to Bart Wow! A pro-Obama toon - that's rare. Subject: Last Issue's Hollywood Gossip answers Link Send e-mail to Bart Today's Wildlife Photo Link Send e-mail to Bart Subject: Is it ALWAYS wrong to do NOTHING with our military? (correctly edited) Bart, Scott from Arizona listed two reasons when a country is authorized to attack another country according to the UN Charter: Retaliation for a previous attack and self defense. (Heading off an imminent attack, he correctly said.) However, he didn’t list the one OTHER reason when the U.N. Charter authorizes a country to attack another: That is To stop ongoing crimes against humanity (For instance, genocidal gassings.) Your linebacker analogy in an apt one and spot on. So, if gassings of its own population were to be considered Crimes Against Humanity (which they reasonably could be considered to be), the U.N. Charter would approve and authorize the use of force against a nation by another in an attempt to stop those crimes. Indeed, the U.N. charter would authorize the United States and its allies to act in this case and attack Syria in order to attempt to stop further of these horrific gassings. Joe in Colorado When Obama said "Gassing civilians, women and children, is an atrocity that cannot stand," I'll bet he thought his Democrats would stand behind him. Obama reeealy needs to read bartcop.com Send e-mail to Bart I like this artist, but what's his point? Obama was born in 1961. How is Vietnam and agent orange on him?
