Putin: Prove it and I'm With You

President Vladimir Putin offered a glimpse of compromise Wednesday, declining to entirely
rule out Russian backing for military action as he prepared to host a summit of world leaders.

Well, that's about as clear as the Second Amendment.

As the United States prepare to attack Damascus, there is little chance of Putin's support. But his words
may herald new efforts to overcome great power rivalries that have let Syria descend into bloody chaos.

Putin stressed that Russia did not share Obama's conviction that Assad has resorted to chemical warfare
- he noted suggestions the August 21 gassing was instead the work of al Qaeda-linked rebels.

And only proof, plus backing of the U.N. that depends on Moscow, would justify using force, he added.
Nonetheless, Putin said he did "not rule out" his support.

What?

Kerry keeps saying he's seen irrefutable proof Assad gassed those people, but I guess the trap here
is that no matter what proof they show Putin, he can always say, "That's still unconclusive."

Did you watch Jon Stewart last night?

It was great to have Jon back, I wish he'd kept the beard.

The first half of the show was all "Obama the clueless warmongering fool-turned Cheney."
The second half, when Andrew Harper came out, was all about the holy hell that Syria has become

Castro takes the back way out - hanged himself

Ariel Castro, who was sentenced to a lifetime of gang rapes for kidnapping and raping three women,
as well as murder, committed suicide in his prison cell Tuesday night, the coroner's office said.

Castro hanged himself with a bedsheet, the Coroner's Office said.

Authorities found Castro, hanged in his cell about 9:20 p.m.
Prison medical staff tried (Really hard, I'll bet!) to revive him but failed.

Castro's brother-in-law, said the family learned about the death from media reports first.
Another family member, Maria Castro-Montes, said she cried when she heard the news.

Her first thoughts were with the three victims and what they must be feeling.
Would they be glad or angry about Castro's death?

The victins might have preferred that he rotted away in a cage for 30 years
but at least this way he is GONE and we never have to hear his name again.

To his death!

There is no proof (yet) that it was a chemical attack.

Perhaps Kerry is lying.

More important, there is absolutely no proof that it was Assad’s military who used it.
In fact, there is more proof that it was the CIA-trained and US financed Al Qaida types
(imported from around) that used it to get US involved in the mess--a win win for
Obama and the Neocons.

Now you're saying Obama and Kerry and Hagel are "just like Bush & Cheney."
Kerry might've been a damn poor presidential candidate but I'd say he's a damn honorable man.

Israel and the US have reasons to want to destabilize Syria and keep it destabilized.
Fueling their civil war and funding their “insurgents” is doing just that.

Villagers in Papua New Guinea attacked and killed a Christian cult leader, an alleged cannibal,
who called himself Black Jesus, local media reported. Police say local people attacked Steven Tari,
also known as Black Jesus, and one of Tari's followers.

Initial reports indicate that the two men were attacked and killed by locals after he murdered one woman
and attempted to take the life of another, Kalaut said. Tari and his follower were attacking a local girl,
one of his disciples, when a group of villagers surrounded the two men and hacked them to death.

Tari, 42, was alleged to have killed a grade 7 schoolgirl last month, police said.
Tari had escaped from jail in March where he was serving time for four counts of rape.

In March 2007 police alleged that Tari had killed and ate three young women he had recruited as sex slaves.
Durng the trial in 2010, Tari preached that young girls were to be "married" to him as it was God's prophecy.
He eventually was found guilty of rape.

Tari's 6,000-strong sect called him "the true Christ" and referred to themselves as "flower girls" or "disciples."
The charismatic cult leader wore white robes and is said to have regularly drunk the blood of his "flower girls."

I'll have a shot of Chinaco for this asshole's death, too.

Subject: Syria "Action"

Bart,

Obama created this mess he is in regarding Syria.
Seriously, I do not understand his mindset here at all.
What is really driving this?
To me it's almost like he's had a psychotic break or something.

It might be as simple as:
He tried to stay out of it, gambling that the rebels would win on their own.
Somehow, Obama took his eye off the ball and now he's got the less he's got.
No psychotic break, I'm guessing, just a tendency to dither and some bad luck.

First he's drawing red lines.

I think he was right to remind the world that Assad croosed that line.

Then he has to follow through as to not look weak.
So, HE is going to make the decision to go in, after all he is the C.I.C!

He shouldn't order a strike because he said he would.
He should order the strike because (IF) it's the right thing to do.

He trots out John Kerry to help make the case! Speeches abound.
We wait, believing a strike is imminent......

Blow back (I think) made him reconsider. Plus Britain is out ( how smart of them!)
Oh, but the French are on our side. (Does anyone read history anymore???)

Britain is punishing Obama for the sins and lies of Bush & his Poodle.

Now he's going to ask Congress for approval to go in. They will vote.
A vote to support him and take action in Syria or a vote to 'slap him down' ,
where he risks looking weak again, with his objectives/desires, rejected.

We're either going to tolerate the gassing of hundreds of kids or we're not.
I think that should not be tolerated.

I will tell you Bart, I have contacted my reps to say vote NO on taking action in Syria.
I don't believe President has made his case.

You have a point there. When they tell him, "You haven't sold this yet,"
he gives another speech using the same words - so nobody is persuaded.
He needs to use the Pizza Hut analogy.

I think he is making a huge error in judgment. I think there is more
underlying this than being noble, teaching Assad a "lesson" or saving children.

I disagree.
I say Obama's LACK of ruthlessness is what hurts him in times like these.
If he was more devious, more cunning, like a Clinton, politics would be easier for him.

The fact that some in the GOP support action is neither surprising or meaningful.
They'd love to see Obama torpedo the rest of his term, and Democratic election chances,
if this blows up in his face.

This is the higest stakes gambling there is - Obama has to know what he's doing.

BTW, what percentage of Democrats, do you think, are against Obama taking
action in Syria "because fighting is always wrong?" 10 percent? 20 percent?

I'm going to keep saying this:
I think Obama is an honorable man doing the best he can under incredible stress.
He's not a farting Texas jackass walking around the White House in a cowboy hat
saying, "Fuck Assad, we're taking him out"

The smartest people in America are giving Obama their very best advice.
If nothing else, Obama is calm, sober and deliberate.

He has to know what he's doing.

Obama says we have to stop this gassing madman because, if we don't,
it will embolden other "gassy" assholes like Iran, Hezbollah, North Korea, etc

I buy that argument all day.

Once America sends that signal that you can mass-slaughter as many civilians
as you want and we'll stay out of it, those floodgates would almost certainly open.

So anytime any dictator gets the slightest whif that someone might challenge him,
he gasses their entire city as a warning to discourage others from getting any ideas.

I keep remembering things that were supposed to go in the Cali Trip Report.

When I was at Tommy's Mexican Restaurant that Saturday, I was driving so
I only did one shot and I got me a shot if good old Chinaco Anejo.

I hadn't had any in maybe 3-4 months and it just flooded my mouth with flavor.

Let's say we get absolute proof that the Syrian government was behind the gas attack.
(Doubtful, by the way. Research is never 100% accurate.)

I can tell your mind is made up.

What do we hope to accomplish by attacking Syria? Teach Assad a lesson? Doubtful.
Dictators rarely care much about death and destruction, except for their own.
If he lives, he won't care.

If he dies, other Arab nations will point to it as proof that America really is a tool of Israel.
