"Honestly, I hated it It was like hell -- going to work every day in hell with Satan," -- Mariah Carey, on how tough it was to be paid $750 per week to be on Idol Link I was surprised when the media sided with Carey on this. She was usually incoherent on Idol and never added anything to the show. At least Nicki Minaj knew where she was and spoke in complete sentences. BTW, do you think Mariah Carey ever worked a day in her life? If she thinks it's hell being a pampered diva on American Idol, imagine how she'd cope being a military widow with the flu and four kids and a shitty minimum wage job with an asshole boss and an old car that won't start and being overdrawn $200 at the bank - and having nowhere to turn. Yeah, Mariah, tell is again how fucking tough your life is. Send e-mail to Bart Only

Did Obama Break his Word? Nobody bothered to look at the facts Link Obama has been getting grief over his "You can keep your insurance" pledge. The media have been filled with stories about people across the country who are having their insurance policies terminated, ostensibly because they did not meet the requirements of the ACA. While this has led many to say that Obama was lying, there is much less here than meets the eye. First, the ACA grand-fathered all the policies that were in place at the time the law was enacted. This means that the plans in effect at the time that President Obama was pushing the bill could still be offered even if they did not meet all the standards laid out in the ACA. The plans being terminated because they don't meet the minimal standards were all plans that insurers introduced AFTER the passage of the ACA. Insurers introduced these plans knowing that they would not meet the standards that would come into effect in 2014. Insurers may not have informed their clients at the time they sold these plans that they would not be available after 2014 because they designed a plan that did not comply with the ACA. Too bad the White House can't speak the truth that painly. Too bad no Democrats can come up with the words to defend their preisdent. Why are Democrats so completely helpless? Update: Obama all but confessed just now, (Noon, Central Thursday.) MSNBC called him "a broken man that America no longer trusts." Update: Is Andrea Mitchell getting paid a premium each time she says, "The White House REALLY messed this up!" on MSNBC? Send e-mail to Bart Subject: Hillary vs. Elizabeth Warren Bart- Why aren’t people talking about a Hillary-Warren ticket in 2016? I think a Hillary-Warren ticket would be outstanding. I don’t like the thought of Warren not being in the Senate, but Warren may be the best choice for Hillary as VP. Heck, some republicans might vote for Hillary just to get Warren out of the Senate. Just sayin’......... Lavar I like Elizabeth Warren just fine, but don't you think she's too new to be a heartbeat away from the presidency? Send e-mail to Bart Lawyer: Snowden is Going Broke It's expensive, betraying your country Link Wanted theif Edward Snowden has burned through most of his savings and is almost out of money, according to his attorney Anatoly Kucherena. "The savings he had, he has almost entirely spent on food, rent, security and so on," Kucherena told UPI. Snowden, who stole secrets from the NSA and flew them to China and Russia, has been running since June 5. After making it to Moscow, he was granted temporary asylum in Russia for one year in August. Funny, Putin granted him asylum IF he agreed to stop leaking. He hasn't done that, so why does he still have asylum? The criminal is stuck in Russia and allegedly works for a "major Russian website" and has received financial support and other aid from otther cources since he backstabbed the United States, Kucherena said. Since his arrival in Moscow, the traitor has apparently been surrounded by Russian security services and intelligence agents — to include his lawyer, who is employed by the FSB. They forgot to tell us how happy Snowden is with the decisions he's made. Send e-mail to Bart Subject: Tired of Obamacare web site story My reaction to the Obama web site story - boring! Yes there are web site problems but like any tech problem they will fix it and the site will start working. Then no one will even remember the problems we're having today. Besides, on the day the web site went online the Republicans shut down the government. So who are they to complain when a government web site doesn't work with the government shutdown. It's hard to make a system work when those who are complaining want it to fail. Marc Perkel Send e-mail to Bart

60 Minutes Needs to Explain Themselves by Gene Lyons Link Lara Logan’s apparent naiveté is far from the most objectionable thing about CBS’s ill-fated attempt to pander to the far right’s odd obsession with the Benghazi tragedy. See, 60 Minutes’ October 27 episode supposedly falsifying the Obama administration’s version of what happened that terrible night in Libya wasn’t so much TV journalism as an infomercial for a book in which CBS had a financial stake —a manifest conflict of interest 60 Minutes neglected to mention until MediaMatters.org called its hand. Exactly how generous an advance Simon & Schuster’s “Threshold Editions” bestowed upon Davies for his heroic tale about singlehandedly fighting his way into the besieged U.S. compound hasn’t been revealed. Presumably enough, however, to give Davies ample reason to concoct a narrative pleasing to its readers’ expectations. Having previously published books by such innovators in the art of storytelling as Glenn Beck, Mark Levin and Jerome Corsi, Threshold editors would appear to be less than rigorous about fact-checking. So excuse me for saying so, but that makes Davies virtually a paid source, and 60 Minutes a practitioner of checkbook journalism that could ruin its well-deserved reputation. So last Sunday, they sent Logan out to apologize: “The most important thing to every person at 60 Minutes s the truth,” she said, “and the truth is we made a mistake.” Sorry, but that simply won’t do. Lara Logan’s a formidable figure and 60 Minutes has long defined TV journalism. But if CBS wants its reputation back, a better explanation is in order. Gene's right about everything, but especially that part I put in bold. 60 Minutes worked A YEAR on this story, talked to 100 witnesses and then got the most important parts completely wrong? WHY do the stupid story in the first place if you had nothing but one man's unverified claims? They were pandering to the Teabaggers and that means this was no accident. CBS got caught helping a liar try to sell some books. CBS, thy name is Mudd. Send e-mail to Bart Subject: Kennedy tried to get Castro Bart, I was in Colombia in 64 and 65 as a peace corps volunteer, to a person, they all believed that Castro got Kennedy because of the bay of pigs etc. It was just a given down there. They loved Kennedy. Every house had that newspaper picture posted up on the wall next to the Virgin Mary. But they were used to coups and this was just another one to them. Protect Battered Women's Pets Some won't move to safety without them Link Earlier this year, a New York City woman—Mary—tried to leave her abusive husband. She contacted a shelter, but the shelter wouldn’t take pets. Nor would any other shelter in the city. Mary’s son said he couldn’t leave his three cats behind. And so, since Mary couldn’t leave without her son, she stayed outside the shelter system. Pets do not get much attention in research on domestic violence, but there is reason to believe that situations like Mary's are amazingly common. Research shows between 18 and 48 percent of women said they had delayed leaving their abusers because it meant leaving their pets. Presumably, many others with pets never leave home at all. In 2008, there were only four shelters in the country that accommodated domestic animals. Today there are 73, but that’s still only about three percent of shelters nationwide, and to date, no program in a city as large as New York allows women to shelter with their animals. about going to the dentist,
thank your lucky stars you were born in America. Dems Have Banana Slug Spines Robert Reich finally figured that out Link Democrats are showing once again they have the backbones of banana slugs. The Affordable Care Act was meant to hold insurers to a higher standard, so it stands to reason that some people with lousy policies will get better ones after their old ones are cancelled. But spineless Democrats (including Bill Clinton) are caving in to Republican-fueled outrage that the President “misled” Americans into thinking they could keep their old lousy policies—and are now urging the White House to forget the new standards and go back to allowing insurers to offer whatever crap they were offering before (exposing families to more than $12,700 in out-of-pocket expenses, canceling the policies of sick people, failing to cover prescription drugs, and so on). Can we please get a grip? Whenever industry standards are lifted – a higher minimum wage, safer workplaces, non-toxic foods and drugs, safer cars – people no longer have the “freedom” to contract for the sub-standard goods and services. But that freedom is usually a mirage because big businesses have most of the power and average people don’t really have a choice. This has been especially the case with health insurance, which is why minimum standards are essential. Yes, the President might have spelled this out a bit more clearly beforehand, explaining that 95 percent of us aren’t in the private insurance market to begin with and won’t be affected, and that most of the 2 percent who lose their lousy policies and have to take better and more expensive ones will be subsidized. But right now he needs all the support he can muster to hold insurers' feet to the fire. Democrats should stand firm. Send e-mail to Bart

Link Send e-mail to Bart Hillary can Never be President by the always fair Ted Rall Link 1. Zero record of accomplishment. Compared to whom? Obama? Zippy the Pinhead? Her husband? Von Reagan? 2. She’s a terrible role model for women. I’m 99% sure they have an open marriage... Only 99 percent, Ted? Why so fair? 3. She’s kind of dumb. Ever notice how people like Ted Rall are always against someone? They're never FOR anyone, because their absolutist horseshit doesn't work in real life. Guys like Ted always say, "Anyone but Hillary," and when President Cruz is sworn in, guys like Ted will say, "How could America be so stupid?" BTW, I assume Ted lives alone.
