Should Hillary Even Bother? Democrats HATE their best chance in 2016 Link The New Republic’s Alec MacGillis Sunday night opened what are likely to be three years of close public scrutiny of the very private, elite, and lucrative shadow of the Clinton foundation — and specifically, the question of what the foundation’s big donors got in exchange for their hundreds of thousands of dollars in contributions. MacGillis’ article is a profile of the architect of what he describes as the “transactionalism” at the heart of Clinton-land, his former aide Doug Band, and his role in shaping a singular charitable enterprise. Band maintained, simultaneously, an “executive consulting” firm called Teneo, whose dealings are totally opaque, aside from having let Band spend $8.8 million on an Upper East Side apartment. A wealthy Democrat bought a nice apartment in Manhattan? That disqualifies Hillary, according to our can't-wait-to-lose Democrats. Polling indicates the Democratic Party is becoming more populist and would more readily embrace someone such as Warren, a prodigious fundraiser in the vein of Obama. Gallup said it found the percentage of Democrats holding "very negative" views of the banking industry rose sharply since 2007, while the percentage of those with positive views fell from 51 percent to 31 percent. The percentage of Democrats who were unhappy with the "size and influence of major corporations" rose from 51 percent to a near stratospheric 79 percent from 2001 to 2011. Yes, that's a great idea. Dump the most experienced, most popular Democrat, whose been fighting for 22 years, for an unknown Massachusetts liberal with months of experience on the national stage. Social Security is going to be one of the top issues the primaries and election. Clinton has been less than clear about her position on Social Security. Yes, after three decades in public life, Hillary's positions are still a myatery. I'll bet Hillary took the blood money she got for murdering Vince Foster and combined it with the Mena Airport money and the Rose Law Firm loot to help FEMA extablish concentration camps to imprison the poor and the middle class because she's a bankster and only Elizabeth Warren can stop her. Who, besides the Democrats, stabs their front-runner in the back? If I was Hilary I'd take my millions and my 70% approval rating and retire saying, "You Democrats don't want to win and I refuse to fight you AND the Republicans AND our whore media for the next three years." Why do Democrats hate their winners? I'm calling on Hillary to NOT get in the 2016 race. Enjoy your later years in luxury, Hillary, and play with your grandkids. You're a winner so the Democrats hate you. Send e-mail to Bart Subject: Snowden a criminal? Really? Bart, I usually agree with you but it seems to me he was alerting the public to overreach by NSA. I honestly don't know that much about it, but that was my impression anyway. French Suzanne Some people think Snowden is a hero, but he's releasing America's secrets because he can. He stumbled onto some things that would hurt America and he figured he'd share with everyone. It's similar to the Chelsea Manning case. I felt Manning was a hero to release that helicopter footage showing a massacre, but then Manning released a total of 700,000 secret documents. There's no way Manning read and understood 700,000 documents. Snowden is the same way - releasing the NSA spying on Americans MIGHT have been semi-heroic, but then he got nasty and started releasing anything that would hurt the country he grew up in. Send e-mail to Bart Jewish Child-Rape Assembly Line Looks like catholics aren't the only ones Link The child sex abuse crisis in ultra-Orthodox Judaism, like that in the Catholic Church, has produced its share of shocking headlines in recent years. In New York, and in the prominent Orthodox communities of Israel and London, allegations of child molestation and rape have been rampant. The alleged abusers are schoolteachers, rabbis, fathers, uncles—figures of male authority. The victims, like those of Catholic priests, are mostly boys. Rabbi Rosenberg believes around half of young males in Brooklyn’s Hasidic community—the largest in the United States and one of the largest in the world—have been victims of sexual assault perpetrated by their elders. Ben Hirsch, director of Survivors for Justice, a Brooklyn organization that advocates for Orthodox sex abuse victims, thinks the real number is higher. “From anecdotal evidence, we’re over 50 percent. It has almost become a rite of passage.” If you can make rape part of your religion, people will accept it because nobody DARES to question the bullshit that religious people force on you before your brain has a chance to develope properly. Religion is a bad, bad thing. Religion teaches you to turn your son over to child molesters. Send e-mail to Bart Subject: 60 Minutes "flub" Hey Bart, It crossed my mind that 60 Minutes may be trying to make nice with somebody (The Koch brothers?) for the Story on George W (Monkey Boy) Shrub not performing his obligations to the National Guard. Even though it was and is still true. Dan Rather getting fired and erased from 60 minutes' history may not have been enough. But as we have seen, nothing is ever enough with the Rethugs. They even admitted impeaching Clinton was revenge for Nixon disgracing himself. That's true. The very dishonorable Henry Hyde admitted that shortly before he died. So a hit piece on Benghazi would be throwing a bone to the rabid dogs. But I'm a cynical and suspicious guy at times. Keep after them! Steve Good point about Dan Rather. Laura Logan needs to be fired in disgrace and sent into satellite network obscurity like Rather was. 60 Minutes is a joke as long as she's allowed to stay there. Benghazi is a white-hot potato and messing with it, 60 Minutes knew, was f-ing dynamite. To get something that important 1,000 percent wrong is totally unforgiveable. You don't get to handle dynamite and then, when it blows up, say, "I didn't know." Send e-mail to Bart

"Socialist" Obamacare a boon to insurance companies theangryliberal.blogspot.com I thought we were told Obamacare was going to destroy free-market insurance companies? I mean isn't "rampant socialism" supposed to be bad for capitalism? Of course the ACA is nothing close to the socialist program Republicans would have us believe -- just ask Mitt. But all you really need to do is check out the performance of the health care insurance stocks. If Obamacare was going to wreak havoc on the private insurance industry, one would surely see the proof in the pudding when it came to stock price returns. Check this chart Send e-mail to Bart Subject: Hillary-Warren 2016 Hey Bart, I think your comment on Elizabeth Warren being too new to politics to be effective is on the money. In my opinion we're seeing that exact thing with President Obama. He wasn't in the Senate long enough to learn what an evil, two-faced, lying bastard you have to be in D.C.. And that's just to deal with your own party! ha ha - True! Thinking that logical thinking and keeping your word will get you anywhere is naïve at best. Keep swinging the BIG hammer! Mr. Whisman To run for president, one must have an ENORMOUS ego, and I get that. To run for president before you're ready is INCREDIBLY egotistic. Send e-mail to Bart Only

Thanks to the Republicans...
Mary Landrieu's Obamacare Fix Link The optics of Obama's broken promise that everyone would be able to keep their insurance are brutal. We are in "Read my lips, no new taxes" territory. Sure, Obama's claim was supposed to apply only to employer-provided insurance, but he never qualified it as such. So now we're subjected to endless stories about people losing their (crappy substandard) insurance, even though Obama said they wouldn't. So enter Sen. Mary Landrieu's fix to this issue (see here and here for details). In short, it would allow people to keep their crappy individual insurance policies, but insurance companies would be unable to keep selling them to new customers, and they'd have to let their customers know why the government considers their policies crap and point them to the exchanges for other options. The idea may not be a home run on the policy side, but Democrats don't have the benefit of perfect policy having botched this thing so badly (from original passage to implementation). But even on the policy, it's not terrible. But on the politics? Woo-boy it's a winner! Remember, some policies are being cancelled because they are substandard. Some are being cancelled because insurance companies are trying to scam their customers into more expensive plans. In both cases, the problem is the insurance companies. Right now, the blame is being put on Obama and the Democrats. This bill would turn things around and put the pressure exactly where it belongs: on insurance companies and obstructionist Republicans. I thought of a question nobody has asked. Why did Obama make crappy insurance illegal? If they had just offered BETTER insurance that covered everything, everyone would've switched and NOBODY would have gotten cancellation notices and therefore, nobody would be bitching. It's just like the Democrats to super-overreach - and it's always for NO REASON. What did they have to gain by making crappy insurance illegal? It gave the insurance companies a loophole to say, "We tried to treat you fairly but Obama wouldn't let us so now you're on your own with nothing." How could they screw that up so badly? It's like when Hi-Def TV came out - did they make standard TV ILLEGAL? No, there was no reason to make standard TV illegal because Hi-Def was so much better people would certainly choose the better product so what were they thinking? If I open a Pizzaria with better-tasting pizza, do I need to make inferior pizzas ILLEGAL? No, but that's how Democrats do things - they fuck things up. Why can't Democrats think? Send e-mail to Bart Subject: Palin's healthcare plan Bart, Someone should have made the same challenge you frequently make to your monkey correspondents, “Diagram that sentence.” Dave Deer Park, NY I guess the good news is we live in a world where loons like Cruz and Palin are actually mocked. Think how bad it would be to be stuck in a nightmare where the mainstream media told us constantly "Cruz and Palin are deep thinkers who could lead America to greatness." As is, we only get that crap from Pigboy, FOX News and the Whore Street Journal. Send e-mail to Bart

You can watch a college football game with an expert; You put the video of the big game on your TV and go to coachescabana.com on your laptop/phone/iPad for the experts' live play-by-play audio. I watched Saturday's Oklahoma game with former OU coach Barry Switzer (and some former players). After that I watched former OK State coach Pat Jones calling the OSU game. Barry says, "WE can be honest about the game, moreso than the talking heads paid by the networks. But WE don't work for them so we're free to say what we want. If a linebacker sucks, we'll say that instead of sugar-coating it." And there's nothing the networks or the leagues can do about it because they're not broadcasting audio or video of the game they're talking about. Plus, this will happen soon for EVERY sport. Watch a golf game with Jack Nicklaus doing the commentray. Watch a tennis match with McEnroe and Connors. Watch a boxng match with Sugar Ray Leonard. His HBO show will in 2014 on Sunday nights. Oliver, 36, said in a statement, "I’m incredibly excited to be joining HBO, especially as I presume this means I get free HBO now. I want to thank Comedy Central, and everyone at The Daily Show for the best seven-and-a-half years of my life. But most of all, I'd like to thank Jon Stewart. He taught me everything I know. Those shifts are threatening to turn a presidential swing state into one that’s more reliably Democratic in the 2016 election and beyond. Johnny Bardine, a 34-year-old lawyer who moved to St. Petersburg in 2007, said the city has a “progressive bend” that is attracting more young Democrats like him. "We’re going to see a resurgence of the Democratic party in the state,” said Bardine. Send e-mail to Bart Here's another chance to donate. Paul in VA Send e-mail to Bart Today's History Mystery Link Subject: last issue's History Mystery Link Bart, I'm pretty sure I know who you're going for here and I don't think that is correct. I don't believe that is Sacawgawea and her son Jean Baptiste Charbonneau. My reason for saying this is Jean Baptiste was born just before Lewis & Clark started their expedition in May, 1804 and likely would have been walking by their return to Fort Washakie in Sept., 1806. The earliest known photograph I can find was produced by a French inventor named Niecee in 1826 or 1827. It was very crude. Sacagawea died at Fenel, South Dakota in 1812 so there are no known photos of her. There is a drawing of her that was published in Century magazine drawn by Frederick Coffay. I will attach a copy of it. I did find the photo you used and curiously the writer notes that it is (not Sacagawea). It is credited as being from the photo archives of the Denver Public Library and titled "Shoshone woman her baby on a cradle board." (1884) Mike95 Mike, thanks for that.
