The Justice Department scored a colossal victory Tuesday in its record $13 billion settlement
with JPMorgan Chase, and some communities devastated by the housing crisis could also walk away with a big win.
The landmark agreement, which resolves a myriad of government probes into the bank’s crooked dealings,
carves out $4 billion to help struggling homeowners and neighborhoods riddled with abandoned or foreclosed houses.
First of all, we know how that idiot Erioc Holder "settles" things on Wall STreet.
For every dollar you steal, you have to pay back a dime and nobody goes to jail,
guaranteeing that the crimes will comtinue.
Second, JPMorgan set aside $25B to pay this "setlement" so Holder gave them a $13B gift.

life terms without parole for nonviolent offenses. Of those prisoners, 80 percent are behind bars for
drug-related convictions. Sixty-five percent are African-American, 18 percent are white, and 16 percent
are Latino — evidence of what the ACLU calls "extreme racial disparities." The crimes that led to life
sentences include stealing gas from a truck, shoplifting, possessing a crack pipe, facilitating a $10 sale

A sharply divided Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed Texas to continue enforcing abortion restrictions
that opponents say have led more than a third of the state’s clinics to stop providing abortions.
The justices voted 5 to 4 to let poor women seek back-alley abortions that could kill them.
The court’s crooked conservatives refused the plea of several Texas abortion clinics to overturn a preliminary
federal appeals court ruling that allowed the provision to take effect. The four liberal justices dissented.
The case remains on appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, in New Orleans.
That court is expected to hear arguments in January, and the law will remain in effect at least until then.
So, if you're 15 and find yourself pregnant, and you can't tell your parents because they are
religiously insane, you have no options at all, besides the back-alley butcher with the coathanger.

In states that have set up their own Affordable Care Act marketplaces, enrollment is proceeding apace.
Indeed, media melodrama about “Obama’s Katrina” and similar formulations appears paradoxically to
have reminded people that dependable health insurance is at last available to them and their families.
Not only doesn’t the political sky seem to be falling, but according to the Los Angeles Times, signups
in California during the first two weeks of November doubled those for the month of October. Several
other states are also showing strong enrollment growth. The governors of Washington, Connecticut and
Kentucky co-signed a Washington Post column about how they’re making the law work.
The indispensible Kevin Drum draws a preliminary conclusion: “It really is all about the website…
The bottom line is the Republican Party’s worst nightmare: Once Obamacare has been up and running
for a while, it’s going to be pretty popular.

They say California has successfully signed up over 30,000 people.

The growers in the Emerald Triangle, where most of Cali's weed comes from, do not want pot to be legal.
Ironically, they now make so much money off of it that to make it legal would bankrupt them.
Prop 19 in 2010 would've allowed regular people to grow up to 5 plants in their home, but the growers
campaigned hard against it by claiming Big Pharma was footing the bill for the proposition.
In reality, it would've put the illegal pot economy out of business.
In other words, the very same people who have fought the law for decades
are now upholding the law because it benefits them.

The Florida Republican was sentenced to one year of probation because he's white.
Radel was charged after allegedly buying a small amount of the drug in an October sting.
The 37-year-old rights-denier made the purchase in Washington on October 29, in a sting that
stemmed from a broader FBI/DEA investigation of a drug trafficking organization in Washington.
The targets were dealers and high-level people in the organization, not buyers and users.
But a dealer arrested last month told federal agents that one of his customers was a congressman.

The only thing in the rules that refers to THC content is that a
packaged edible cannot contain more than 100mg of THC.
It would be almost impossible to comply with or enforce.
Gas Chromatography is as much of an art as a science,
I talked to the guy in Denver whose company does it.
Anyone can read the rules on the Colorado Dept of Revenue’s MED website.

The Department of Revenue's Medical Marijuana Enforcement Division promises to release a draft of the rewritten rules by Dec. 28.
"Based on industry feedback, and its own experience, the MMED has determined that the majority
of the existing medical marijuana rules ... are in need of amendment," the announcement states.
I guess we should hope Repuiblicans are the ones writing the new rules.
Democrats would no doubt fuck things up beyond recognition.

Only 33 percent approve of the way the law is being implemented, with 63 percent disapproving.
The 40 percent approving of the law itself is just 2 points shy of Obama's 42 percent approval rating,
just as the 57 percent who disapprove of the law is just 2 percent higher than the 55 percent who disapprove of Obama.
Less than 50 percent polled said the president was a strong leader, trustworthy, understanding or a strong manager.
The only good news is that a majority of Americans, 52 percent, believe that the president said what he believed
was true when he promised that people who like their insurance plans can keep them.
But why did he make shitty insurance illegal?
It makes no sense and nobody's asking that question.
If Obama had used his head (Why can't Democrats think?) he would've left
shitty insurance alone and then all they could bitch about was the slow sign-up.
