By key Republican metrics, 2013 was a banner year for the president.
Instead of noting this, Republicans are celebrating their success at helping to turn
public opinion against President Obama in his fifth year in office.
After years of trying to conjure a scandal for this White House, Republicans were even eager
to attack the president from the left on Syria and government surveillance. The right-wing media
amplified the complaints of the small group of “anti-war” Republicans not because they were
rejecting the warmongering and abuses of power of the Bush administration, but to score points
against a man they despise for beating them soundly — twice. This specious strategy became
obvious when the administration’s sudden progress toward disarming Syria — and Iran —
was met with silence or the sorry trope of “appeasement.”
Regardless, the president did the most damage to himself this year with the launch of HealthCare.gov,
which shook the nation’s confidence as it sputtered and crashed for two whole, crucial months.
Now that the site is working for most people and millions have signed up for health insurance,
Republicans are hoping they’ll be able to make 2014 about the failings of Obamacare.
The chances of another HealthCare.gov-sized fiasco are minimal, so the focus will be on making
the inevitable troubling anecdotes of reform drown out the droves of people with health coverage
for the first time in years—or their lives.

The gay-bashing “Duck Dynasty” family and A&E have lots of reasons to resolve the controversy
sparked by the racist's comments about gays: almost $500 million in fact.
Robertson, the rich Republican elitist, was suspended indefinitely last week by A&E after telling GQ
magazine that homosexuals were akin to adulterers, the greedy, drunkards and swindlers and would
not “inherit the kingdom of God.”
His comments and suspension put at risk a show that has exploded in popularity since it first began airing
in March 2012. “Duck Dynasty” has generated $400 million in merchandise sales. The show has produced
almost $80 million in advertising sales for A&E this year through September.
“‘Duck Dynasty’ is A&E’s biggest revenue generator and major viewer franchise,” said Porter Bibb.
“America believes in second acts,” he added, predicting Robertson “will be given another chance.”

On Friday, in a surprise decision that made the bones of Brigham Young reach for his
scalping knife, Judge Robert Shelby ruled that Utah's 2004 voter-approved ban on
same-sex marriage was unconstitutional. He did so without a trial because, as his decision
makes clear, why the fuck bother? Is there really anything new to add to the argument?
Does someone have evidence that gay dudes marrying is a secret conspiracy to castrate
the straights? No? Then, to paraphrase Shelby, "Go fuck yourselves instead of fucking
with the rights of others."
County clerks around the state started issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples,
and there was much muff-diving and cock-gobbling in celebration, especially after Sunday,
when a federal appeals court refused to issue a stay of the decision.
Damn, I'll bet f-ing Utah gets legal pot before Oklahoma does.

Romo is out for the season with a back injury, according to ESPN.
The Cowboys play the Eagles at home this Sunday night with the NFC East
championship on the line, but will have to go with Kyle Orton at quarterback.
Orton has just 15 attempts over the last two seasons with the Cowboys.

When will A&E Network Crack?
"Duck Dynasty" is their biggest show

While boycott petitions against "Duck Dynasty" bosses A&E take off, the network itself is staying quiet.
Since its Wednesday decision to "indefinitely" suspend racist gay-basher Phil Robertson, A&E has yet to
publicly clarify what the future of the show might be, what they'll do with their block of reruns, or even
what it really means to be "indefinitely" suspended.
The network's lack of communication has done nothing to stem the tide of detractors who strongly disagree
with its decision to put Robertson on the bench his racist, gay-bashing remarks. A Change.org petition demanding
that Robertson be reinstated and the network issue an apology was steadily climbing toward 100,000 signatures Friday.
A separate petition at a website called IStandWithPhil.com makes a similar appeal. Hosted by the online
community Handjob Driven Consumers, the website helps its members spend their money with companies
that hate niggers and queers. That petition surpassed 130,000 signatures last Friday evening.
So, when will A&E Network cave?

I spent an interesting summer there a few years ago as a guest student.
MSU is one of the “Seven Sisters,” seven high-rises that ring Moscow. All seven buildings
were built post-WWII under Stalin. They’re all similar in size (read:”HUGE”) and style.
MSU is a self-contained university campus --- classrooms, dormitories, auditoriums,
