Losing a
War, Winning a Police State
by Nat Parry
consortiumnews.com
Excerpt:
The NIE, representing the consensus view of 16
U.S. intelligence agencies, recognizes the obvious:
that the invasion of Iraq has spawned a new generation
of Islamic extremists who are determined to
strike at the West, that Iraq has served as both
a recruitment poster and a training ground for jihadists.
"The Iraq war has made the overall terrorism problem
worse" since 9-11, summarized one U.S.
intelligence official in referring to the NIE,
which was completed in April 2006. [NYT, Sept. 24, 2006]
But to many Americans, this conclusion comes as
no surprise. Indeed, it was one of the central arguments
of the antiwar movement before the invasion more
than three years ago, that an unprovoked invasion of Iraq
would inflame anti-Americanism and increase the
terrorist threat at home and abroad.

The New York Times reports former President Bill
Clinton "worked hard" to try to kill Osama.
Clinton states, "We contracted with people to
kill him. I got closer to killing him than anybody's
gotten since...I did everything I thought I responsibly
could."
These statements are as amazing and self-indicting
as Bush's admission of rendering prisoners
to secret prisons which we operate in foreign
lands.
There was a time when Clinton was a feel-your-pain

he "contracted with people." And

Secure and protect America? Yeah, bang-up job

"Spy Agencies Say Iraq War Worsens Terrorism Threat"

It seems the invasion and occupation of Iraq
has spawned a new generation of radicalized men

taking American soldiers, or you, or me, with them.
The information contained in the newest National
Intelligence Estimate, considered to be the most
authoritative report on the subject, was so unutterably
damning that even the White House was
forced to cede the point. "It assesses that a
variety of factors, in addition to Iraq, fuel the spread

I've never trusted her abrupt conversion, coming
as it did on the heels of her disastrous,
some might say deranged obsession to offer up

I should know that story but I don't.
Failing miserably and pissing off the entire right

Ari made Newt an offer that, it turned out, he
could refuse.
The wingnuts kicked her to the curb and VOILA,
she saw the light. Which is why she's the best

Why I Hate
the Clintons
by Michael Hirsh (who?)

Excerpt:
As is always the case with Bill Clinton, politics
can't be too far from his considerations.
With Hillary expected to make a 2008 run, he
and his wife have been going to great lengths
to neutralize what they see as the "vast right-wing
conspiracy." That has meant, for example,
winning over ex-GOP foes one by one, inviting
Laura Bush to speak at his forum, and buddying up
to Rupert Murdoch. The charm campaign may also
have been the reason for Bill deciding to
grant his first-ever interview to Fox Whore News.
Clearly, Clinton still has bitter feelings over
the "fair and balanced" network's coverage of him
since Monica and impeachment trial. Chris Wallace
seems to have caught the brunt of it.
Hey idiot - you still want to pretend there was no anti-Clinton conspiracy?
How did Paula Jones's lawyers end up working for Bush?
Are you trying to say that's just a coincidence?
And you write about politics for a whore magazine like Newsweek?
BTW, how big of a whore is Newsweek?
Look at their covers this week.
They REFUSE to tell the truth because the truth hurts their ally, Der
Monkey.
They tell the truth around the world - but lie to us here at home.

Thank you to you and everyone

were wiped from my memory.
High points, number one meeting Bart, walking
the strip from one end to the other,
Bellagio to Sahara, to Luxor and back to Bellagio
for an evening view of the waters;
speaking French (albeit poorly on my part) at
the tequilafest; discussing mathematics,
physics, and religion with some very smart people.
Playing poker amongst friends and
lasting way longer than I expected. Drinking
vast amounts of tequila, yet still maintaining
a sense of awareness. I discovered that
the best cure for a serious case of cottonmouth
is a semi-largish swallow of really good tequila.
Then of course was the waking up Saturday

perspective
Hey Bart, saw the interview Clinton gave on Fox.
Good for him.
In a democracy, leaders of nations give interviews
*all* the time. I saw Clinton here in
the Netherlands a few times and he naturally
always gave interviews. To all kinds of people.
He was ex-president at the time and I read several
of the interviews he gave.
Not once did he attack the current administration,
even though had plenty of opportunity.
All his interviews showed that he was always willing
to answer the hard questions and that
he had a deep knowledge of history, geopolitics,
energy concerns, trade, human rights, etc.
You have to respect a guy like that.
See Tony Blair? Disagree with him, but at least
he can stand up and defend his position himself.
In fact, you can't get anywhere in British politics
without being able to debate.
The only kind of leader that can't debate is ..
A PUPPET!

Excerpt:
Five years after the Afghan invasion, the Taliban
are fighting back hard, carving out a sanctuary
where they - and Al Qaeda's leaders - can operate
freely.
You don't have to drive very far from Kabul these
days to find the Taliban. In Ghazni province's
Andar district, just over a two-hour trip from
the capital on the main southern highway, a thin
young man, dressed in brown and wearing a white
prayer cap, stands by the roadside waiting
for two Newswhore correspondents. It is midday
on the central Afghan plains, far from the
jihadist-infested mountains to the east and west.
Without speaking, the sentinel guides his visitors
along a sandy horse trail toward a mud-brick
village within sight of the highway. As they get
closer a young Taliban fighter carrying a walkie-talkie
and an AK-47 rifle pops out from behind
a tree. He is manning an improvised explosive
device, he explains, in case Afghan or U.S. troops
try to enter the village..
Our troops, slapped around by a bunch of goat herders.
...and they said Clinton hurt our military?

Slate: Why

Excerpt:
Did Clinton come across a little unhinged? Sure,
but that's an advantage in a midterm election
where party passion matters. Liberal activists
want to see their representatives fight back the
way Clinton did. This was a rallying cry and
a signal to other members of the party to do the same.
Clinton can go to individual districts to campaign

Yeah, Clinton was an out-of-control, frothing-at-the-mouth madman on

Republicans and Democrats are fighting over the
meaning of the National Intelligence report.
Democrats point out that it concludes that the
war in Iraq has inflamed our enemies hatred and
that terrorism has increased. Republicans however
point out that pulling out of Iraq would show
American weakness and embolden the terrorists.
So we are dammed if we do and dammed if we don't.
Bush has lied America into a war that we are
