Bush puts
US troops under UN Control
Didn't he swear he'd never do that?
Link
Excerpt:
NATO took over eastern Afghanistan from U.S.-led
forces Thursday, assuming control
of 12,000 American troops and extending its military
role to the entire country.
The commander of the NATO-led force, British Gen.
David Richards, called the move "historic"
in a ceremony also attended by President Hamid
Karzai and U.S. Lt. Gen. Karl Eikenberry.
The handover "illustrates the enduring commitment
of NATO and its international partners to
the future of this great country," said Richards,
who now holds the British military's highest rank.
Richards all but guaranteed progress in Afghanistan's
deteriorating security, joking that he would
appear in front of a firing squad if the country
isn't safer by the end of his command in February.
So our troops are taking orders from a comedian?
I thought Republicans would rather die than turn
our troops over to the UN.

So how does Foley being gay play out among the

Well, it just proves that all homosexuals are

young boys to their lifestyle.
It sure works to their advantage.
Please note that Foley is now "seeking treatment"

Kirk Fordham made his comments to The Whore AP

It is a mark of sheer Republican panic that Ray
LaHood of Illinois has suggested that
Congress abolish its page program altogether
in the wake of the Mark Foley scandal.
What conclusion are we supposed to draw from LaHood's
proposal? That members of Congress
cannot be trusted in the company of adolescents?
If so, why punish the adolescents? Whatever
happened in the Foley case surely wasn't the
fault of the pages to whom Foley came on electronically,
much less every teenager who has worked, or would
like to work, as a page.
If LaHood believes that pages pose an irresistible
temptation to his peers, there are surely
solutions straight out of the Republican playbook
that wouldn't punish the victims.
How about building a 700-foot fence around all
Republican members of Congress?

I don't think there's a credible study that links
being abused as a child to being gay,
but there are studies that clearly link having
been abused with turning into an abuser.
Kids learn what they live. A child who is
abused, emotionally, physically, or sexually,
is much more likely to grow up and do to others
what was done to him.
It's not about "the gay," it's about the abuse.

Random thought...
In the Tulsa, OK newspaper, they ran an ad for "The
World's Biggest Boat Show."
OK, ...I didn't know Tulsa was a boating hotbed, and I didn't/don't
really much giveafuk
but I noticed the "The World's Biggest Boat
Show" was taking place in the parking lot
of the grocery store that had the killer Olathe Cranberry Corn well
into September.
I get wood just staring at it.
Back to the point - the Tulsa GOP-rag paper advertised, "The
World's Biggest Boat Show."
And what I saw made me LOL, so I grabbed my digi-cam
to record the truth.
THIS is "The World's Biggest Boat Show"
if you live in a town like Tulsa.
That's one reason I like Las Vegas.
In Vegas, if they say, "This is the shit,"
...it's the shit.
In Vegas, they have to tell the truth or word gets out they
blow
and money goes away and they do not tolerate that in
Las Vegas.
But back to "The World's Biggest Boat Show,"
*I* don't have any boats,
and I only have 5 fewer boats than "The World's
Biggest Boat Show."
...and they said I'd never be a success...

Reynolds

They traded checks - $5K and $100K

Excerpt:
Very bad news for Reynolds: He may have given
Foley money after he was told of the allegations.
Reynolds wrote Foley a check for $5,000 on May
10, 2006. (You can see the filing here.)
According to the AP, Reynolds was told of the
allegations against Foley "sometime this spring."
On July 27, 2006, the NRCC, which Reynolds chairs,
accepted an unusually large contribution
of $100,000 from Foley. Hard to imagine something
of that size just slipping past the chairman.
It's sounding more catholic all the time.

SW's Chief
Of Staff: Fordham is Lying

Excerpt:
Speaker Dennis Hastert's chief of staff, Scott
Palmer, is denying the explosive allegation made
by NRCC chief Tom Reynolds' former top aide,
Kirk Fordham, who claimed today that he'd
told Hastert's office about Mark Foley's problem
with pages much earlier than had been previously
disclosed. Hastert's office has just emailed
us the following one-sentence statement from Palmer:
"What Kirk Fordham said did not happen." -- Scott
Palmer, Chief of Staff to Speaker Hastert
Wednesday, Fordham pointed specifically to Palmer
to buttress his charge that he'd alerted Hastert's
office much earlier than the leadership has acknowledged.
Fordham alleged that as far back as 2003,
Palmer specifically had been told that Foley
was too friendly with the House pages.
Fordham claimed that Palmer spoke to Foley about
the matter, ABC reported.

Go there, then search for 'Yorktown"
Excerpt:
Congressional sources told WMR that Hastert,
while working from 1964 to 1980 as a popular
history/government teacher and wrestling coach
at Yorkville High School, in Yorkville, Illinois
-- a suburb of Chicago -- was the subject
of persistent rumors about inappropriate contact with
male members of his high school wrestling team.
The culture of the times usually resulted in such
alleged behavior being covered up by public and
parochial school authorities. However, the rumors
were enough for his Yorkville constituency to
reject him when he ran for an open seat in the Illinois
House of Representatives in 1980. However, Hastert
lucked out when another sitting Republican
House member who represented the three-seat district
had a stroke and declined to run for re-election.
The GOP machine bosses selected Hastert as the
replacement candidate.

Subject: Republicans distance
themselves from Foley but not his money
A huge number of Republicans knew about Mark Foley's
problems with trying to have sex with underage boys.
Foley was co-chairman of the Exploited Children
Caucus.
However everyone's memories are fuzzy and by amazing
coincidences no one did anything about it until
Foley was busted by the news media.
Foley raised a lot of money for the Republicans, $2M or so.
A Republican staff member who resigned today
offered to bribe ABC News with an exclusive
if they kept the truth from the public regarding
the details of what Foley did.
Now the Republicans are all shocked and surprised
by these revelations claiming that they knew nothing about it.
Republicans claim to be the party of family values.
They put the safety of children ahead of money.
Some people might think that Foley's money has
led to Republican's looking the other way.
Republicans of course deny they would put money
ahead of the safety of children.
But the Republicans are keeping Foley's money.

Democrats:
Profiles in Cowardice
Link
Excerpt:
Once again, with a midterm election looming,
Bush stoked and won a major legislative confrontation
over a complex national security question. Four
years ago, it was the Iraq war resolution and reorganization
of the government's homeland security functions.
In both cases, hindsight suggests that haste and political
pressure foreclosed the kind of nuanced debate
that might have served the nation well. The same is likely
to prove true of legislation passed last week
on the treatment, detention and trial of enemy combatants.
But the artificial emergency Bush created has
served his political purpose. His goal was to press opponents
to cave to his will, against their better judgment,
or to create an issue allowing his party to tar the opposition
as soft on terrorism. In this case, thanks in
part to the Democrats' weak-hearted abdication, he got both.
Democrats who cowardly cave in to the bully is hardly news.
If the lame-ass gelding ever acted like men - that would be
news.

Subject: Religious Right silent
on Foley
America's Religious Right has an amazing public
relations network and can issue press releases,
get on television and radio and, when they want
to, mobilize their lemming-like flock faster than
Jack Abramoff can bribe a Republican Congressman.
Yet four days after it was revealed that Foley
was going after teenaged boys, and all you can hear
from our own little version of the Taliban is
dead quiet and crickets chirping. Odd, isn't it?
The same people who can move their followers to
boycott any company that believes gay people
even have the right to exist, can't muster much
outrage over one of their own preying on young boys
and, more importantly, the Republican leadership
in the House ignoring it to save their political hides.
With the news out since Friday, James Dobson's
Focus on the Family (FOF) still doesn't say a word
about it on their web site. In fact, if you go
there right now and do a search on "Mark Foley," the closest
thing you'll find citing Foley is a statement
from March 2006 entitled More Funding Needed to Combat Child Porn.

Subject: Catholic Church Model
Bart,
Regarding Hastert and the growing Foley sex scandal,
perhaps what is needed is to follow
the Catholic Church Model precedent wherein churches
were sued for covering up/allowing
bad behavior on the parts of their priests.
These suits were highly successful!
A series of multi-million dollar legal actions
directed against Hastert and others as
individuals or as representatives of the U.S.
Government might be in order.
