New Assault on Gore
 by Robert Parry

 consortiumnews.com

 Excerpt:
Starting the ball rolling was a dismissively brief two-column review in the Washington Post's
Book World on May 27, largely ignoring what the book said while making clear that the
Inside-the-Beltway hostility toward Gore endures.

"Al Gore possesses a skill that no other American politician can match - or would want to," wrote
Washington Post reviewer Alan Ehrenhalt. "He has a consistent ability to express fundamentally
reasonable sentiments - often important ones - in ways that annoy the maximum possible number of people."

But how Ehrenhalt ascertained that "the maximum number of people" felt annoyed by Gore's book is not explained.

Judge's Ruling may Stop Gitmo Trials

 Link

 Excerpt:
The U.S. war crimes tribunals at Guantanamo came to a screeching halt on Monday when a
military judge dropped all the charges against a young Canadian in a ruling that could preclude
trying any of the 380 prisoners. Army Col. Peter Brownback, the judge, said the military tribunal
lacked jurisdiction over Canadian Omar Khadr because he did not meet the definition of those
subject to trial under a law the U.S. Congress drafted last year.  'It's not a technicality. It's another
demonstration that the system simply doesn't work," said the tribunal's chief defense counsel,
Col. Dwight Sullivan. "Fundamentally it is a system of justice that does not comport with American values.'

Subject: Republican Candidates Backpedal on Faith

It was interesting to see the Republican candidates back pedal on their faith in the Bible.
When asked if they literally believe that God created the world in 6 days they said they didn't know.

To me that means that they don't really believe in the Bible.
The Bible says 6 days and that is what it means. If you believe in God you have to believe that God
knows how long a day is and that those who don't believe it are rejecting the authority of the Bible.

The issue of faith is that you have to choose to believe in it regardless of the science and regardless
of reason and evidence. It's a choice you have to make between faith and reality. You can't have it
both ways. Science, reason, and evidence indicates the universe is about 15 billion years old.
The Bible says it's 6000 years old. These views are incompatible.

You have to either choose faith or reason, and when Republican candidates say they believe in the
Bible but ignore what it says makes me think that they don't really have the faith they say they do.

Rudy worse than Bush?

 smirkingchimp.com

 Excerpt:
Like Bush's, Rudy's career before the bombing was in the toilet; New Yorkers had come to think of him
as an ambition-sick meanie whose personal scandals were truly wearying to think about. But on 9-11,
it must be admitted, Rudy hit the perfect note; he displayed all the strength and reassuring calm that Bush
did not, and for one day at least, he was everything you'd want in a leader. Then he woke up the next day
and the opportunist in him saw that there was money to be made in an America high on fear.

For starters, Rudy tried to use the tragedy to shred election rules, pushing to postpone the inauguration
of his successor so he could hog the limelight for a few more months. Then, with the dust from the WTC
barely settled, he went on the road as the Man With the Bullhorn, pocketing as much as $200,000 for a
single speaking engagement. In 2002 he reported $8 million in speaking income; this past year it was more
than $11 million. He's traveled in style, at one stop last year requesting a $47,000 flight on a private jet,
five hotel rooms and a private suite with a balcony view and a king-size bed."

Blitzer in the CNN Debate

 Link

 Excerpt:
Despite the fact that this was a two-hour debate, moderator Wolf Blitzer acted as if he was hosting
"Beat the Clock." Of course, a moderator must keep a crowded field under control. But the candidates
weren't the ones who were off the leash. Rather, it was Wolf who repeatedly interrupted contenders who
were trying to explain the basics of their positions, cut off thoughful answers in mid-sentence and failed to
follow up when significant points of difference - on issues such as trade policy - were thrown into the mix.

Worst of all, Blitzer tried to take complex issues and reduce them to show-of-hand stunts.

Subject: Obama's quiet riot

Bart, recent headlines read that "Obama warns of 'quiet riot' among blacks."

You and I know that this is not all about race.  It has a lot to do with being poor.
If Obama gets poor folks of all races involved & excited, the resulting booms & crashes
of the "quiet riot" will be thunderous.

If he could get the poor to vote, they'd be less poor.
He ought to ask the poor to come to a rally in big numbers,
then tell them to vote against tax cuts for the super-rich.

Libby the Traitor gets 30 months
Not ordered to surrender, will he get a pardon?

 Link

 Excerpt:
Libby stood calmly before a packed courtroom as a federal judge said the evidence
overwhelmingly proved his guilt and left the courthouse without commenting.

"People who occupy these types of positions, where they have the welfare and security of the nation
in their hands, have a special obligation to not do anything that might create a problem," Judge Walton said.

Walton did not set a date for Libby to report to prison. Though he saw no reason to let Libby remain free
pending appeal, Walton said he would accept written arguments on the issue and rule later.

If we had a decent senate majority leader, he would've warned Bush months ago not to pardon him.
But we have Harry Reid, who will no doubt be "shocked" when the inevitable pardon comes down.

Subject: Bart hates Arianna?

Bart, I have a problem with you hammering on Arianna - it's the word "hate."

I think I use that word appropriately.
When Arianna attacks, facts and logic are nowhere to be found.
It's all, "Hillary thinks this, and Hillary thinks that."
Plus, she's only got one topic to write about and it's "destroy Hillary."

It sounds too much like the Repugnican talking point applied to anyone
who disagrees or dislikes the Murder Monkey.

I can't affect what the Thugs say.
Bush can be attacked on the facts - why can't they do the same for Hillary?

I hope in the end that she'll support the Dem candidate but I won't count on it.

I doubt Arianna is going to vote Democrat.

Why we Hate Hillary
by Nich Van Huffington, - I mean Hoffman

 thenation.com

 Excerpt:
Hillary Clinton's vote to invade Iraq is turning into a political horror story.

Is that why her lead is widening over the others?

It is the moldering hand of a murder victim coming out of the grave to grab her by the ankle.

Oh. My. God.
Have you ever seen such shit-writing in your life?

Bodies would not be jumping out at the candidate of the money wing of the Democratic Party
if she had only said she made a mistake in voting for the war,

Oh, so the bodies stay happily buried if she grovels for people who hate her?
Did you win your job at The Nation in a freeroll at fulltiltpoker.com?

She says, "My vote was a sincere vote based on the facts and assurances
that I had at the time." She says it over and over again.

...because people like you ask her that question over and over again.
That way you get to write, "She says it over and over again."

Subject: Hillary

Bart, what makes you so sure that Hillary will be nomInated and win in 2008 ?????

Is that a serious question?

I feel that you are scrupously honest in you reporting but i get a litle bit nervous about your
reasoning regarding Hillary.  I personally feel that there are many people who will not vote for her
simply because she is a woman.  Some feel we are not ready for this drastic change.

We won't know until we try, right?
Who knew the Army would tolerate blacks until we integrated it?

And there are those of us who do not feel that Bill deserves a third term in the White House.
And as devoted DLC people they will if they loose tell us she is now ready for 2012.

I doubt she'd run a second time.

We dems do not need to be Republican Lite.
We need to invigorate the New Deal Way of Life,
 Mary

There's a reason why Clinton is the only Democrat to win twice since World War II.

Why Hillary won the Debate
by someone pretending to be Arianna

 wehateher.com

 Excerpt:
Hillary Clinton won because she arrived at the debate as the front-runner -- with a widening lead
in national polls -- and left the debate with her position solidified. Her success was due in part to
what she did during the debate, and in part to what Barack Obama failed to do.

She came across as more comfortable in her own skin, and more natural and less programmed than
in the past. And she exhibited an effortless charm that those close to her often rave about but that
the public rarely sees. She even scored two of the biggest laughs of the night with her zinger about
Cheney's diplomatic skills, and her use of Goldwater's "shoot straight" line about gays in the military.

Why would the premier Hillary hater say something nice about her?
Why didn't she make stuff up like she always does?

Subject: BCR downloading tip

A tip for all those die-hard BCR-ers. In addition to the "right-click, Convert Selection to MP3"
trick you already published, you can also *save* your spot in a BCR show from one reboot to the
next with this trick.   Right-click the track, select "Get Info", and then select the "Options" tab in iTunes.

Then check the box labeled "Remember Playback Position", and if you have to shut down iTunes in
the middle of a BCR show, the next time you play it you'll be conveniently brought back to the exact
spot you had to stop it before when you're ready to listen to the rest of it.

Subject: On Hillary's race to win

Bart I am of the opinion that there are several candidates that could trounce anyone
that the repugs manage to crazy their way through the primary proess.

I agree.

I do not think that the options for Democrats are:
A: Get behind Hillary or,
B: Lose to the Republicans.

I agree.

Regardless of what candidate you support you have to admit that Blitzer that blustering idiot
handled his job as moderator very poorly.  Obama, Edwards, and Clinton were given ample
speaking oppurtinites while the public was denied getting to know any of the others.
 Nek

We should - and I'm 100% serious - vote someone off the island after each debate.
We can't have a real debate with 10 people trying to get a chance to speak.

We have four candidates with a chance to win and 6 people lying to themselves.

The Sad, Painful Death of Dennis Miller

 Link

 Excerpt:
Something happened to the once-brilliant Dennis Miller. It started about a decade ago and has since
turned the man from one of the funniest and smartest and most intellectually wry observers of culture
and political attitude in the country into a warped war-supporting Bush-loving right-wing sycophant.

       I  (heart)  Bush

He used to be the smart-ass cousin of Bill Hicks and Lenny Bruce. But now you hear him and he
appears to have sacrificed his once-nimble mind and forsaken all perspective to drink the Kool-Aid
of the Dark Side, and has become a full-blown Republican. And it's a sad thing indeed.

Farewell, Dennis. You were amazing, once. Please turn in your badge.
Now you are merely Ann Coulter's towel boy.

Why won't God heal amputees?

 whywontgodhealamputees.com

 Excerpt:
Is God real, or is he imaginary? It is one of the most important questions in America today.

If God is real and if God inspired the Bible, then we should worship God as the Bible demands.
We should certainly post the Ten Commandments in our courthouses and shopping centers,
put "In God We Trust" on the money and pray in our schools. We should focus our society
on God and his infallible Word because our everlasting souls hang in the balance.

On the other hand, if God is imaginary, then religion is a complete illusion. Christianity, Judaism
and Islam are pointless. We should eliminate God from our society because God is meaningless.
Belief in God is nothing but a silly superstition, and this superstition leads a significant portion of
the population to be delusional.

"Top of the World, Ma"
    by Eric Alterman

 wehateclintons.com

 Excerpt:
The cop told me to leave the room and I did. We left the room, past where the people were handing out
badges to go into the reception and I figured the entire drama was over. But the cop kept yelling at me to leave.
I didn't understand. I thought I had left. I asked him to stop yelling, I had left. He kept telling me to leave.
In retrospect, I guess he was kicking me out of the building and I didn't understand, but it was really mystifying
and annoying and I told him I wanted to speak to his commanding officer. We went over to the commanding
officer and I, calmly and politely, sought to explain that I didn't know why this cop was continuing to hassle me.
The first cop kept interrupting me as I tried to explain and finally I said, "Can I please finish a sentence here?"
That's when the first cop decided to arrest me. He handcuffed me behind my back and took me outside."

They'll drop the charges and say, "No harm, no foul, eh?"
Why can't cops stop pre-emptively arresting people who might, at some point, commit a crime?
