"This new format of presenting Oscars... They
had these five actors come out there, and each one addressed one of the nominees.
It was sick! There was so little humility."
-- the vulgar, pompous heroin addict Pigboy, offering lessons on humility
Excerpt: Bush's first stop after leaving the White House
last month was Midland, where thousands of ignorant handjobs
cheered him in the town square as if he were
some kind of hero. But his return to Dallas was far more subdued.
Bush is one of the most unpopular presidents in
U.S. history. Critics say that's why he has yet to get a publishing deal
on the pack of self-serving lies he's said to
already have begun writing. And, after the shoe-throwing incident in Iraq,
he has not yet made plans to travel any farther
than Canada. Friends say Bush can't process rejection so he's
upbeat.
But Dallas has changed some from the solidly
Republican stronghold the Bushes may recall.
True, "Welcome Home, George and Pickles" yard
signs dotted Preston Hollow for weeks before the Bushes moved in.
And Texas remains a solidly red state.
But Dallas County voters, who gave Bush a narrow victory in '04, swung
to the
Democrats last November. In Dallas
County, Obama got 57 percent to McCain's 42 percent.
Charleston Caller:
"People in South Carolina are hurting. Unemployment rates are high and
going higher.
We are running out of money in the unemployment bank - we need money for
that,
the people that need help. And I’m one of them, but I can’t get no help."
Gov Mark Sanford:
"My prayers are going to be with you because it sounds like you're in an
awfully tough spot." Link
Have you ever heard, "Go fuck yourself"
sound so pretty?
This reminds me of Bush and Katrina.
"We won't do anything to help, but we'll pray
for you."
Funny, when Lehman Brothers and WaMu and A.G.I. and Citi Bank
got in trouble,
the Republicans came to the rescue with trillions of dollars.
But if it's just people who need help, they offer to f-ing pray
for them.
Excerpt: I can hardly believe what I'm watching. Chris
Matthews is flat-out critical of Obama on the economic front.
He mentions an earlier conversation with Jim
Cramer knocking Obama for several economic decisions - that the
stimulus bill needed more real infrastructure
and less pork, that the housing bill isn't inspiring confidence and doesn't
look like it will work, and that no one has faith
in Tim Geithner's solution for the banks.
Howard Fineman says "Tim Geithner hasn't inspired
any confidence anywhere, as far as I can tell."
Matthews: "He seems like Barney Fife to me."
Eugene Robinson: "I actually referred to him as
Doogie Howser, Treasury Secretary, and I think it's a little unfair." Much
laughter ensues.
Matthews: "I thought 8,000 was the floor, and
it looks like 6,000 is the floor. People are angry, I'm getting angry."
Surely Obama is smart enough to know that the whores who lied to get
him elected ... were lying whores.
Their loyalties will turn each time the wind blows and that Matthews
whore is among the worst of them.
Bart, some friends of mine saw that Tulsa show
and just loved it.
Personally, most people I know -- including most
rock musicians -- have a deep
abiding love and respect for traditional American
music forms, including country.
Too bad your personal bias caused you to dislike
what was almost certainly an awesome show.
Broaden your horizons, man!
Best,
Carmody in Wichita
Maybe I was too sober...
Saw Crissie in early Feb in Ann Arbor.
The touch of country made the show even more
fun than when we used to rock with them in the 80's.
It was great to see Chrissee H still rockin and
adding some twang to her new shows.
A little change is good for longevity. As long
as one doesn't totally wimp out like that prancing fruitcake
that used to sing for Page. Give the fans what
THEY want, like the WHO have been doing since 1961.
Danny Detroit
So if The Who went country you'd say "that was good for longevity?"
I don't think you believe what you wrote :)
Michael Steele: No, no no. What would we do
that for? What are you, crazy? No.
Why would we backslide on a core, founding value of this country?
This isn’t something that you just kind of like, 'Today I feel loosey-goosey
on marriage'."
There was a time when America's "founding
values" uincluded slavery.
Since he's Black, I assume Michael Steele
was progressive in 1865 and 1965,
but is he progressive in 2009?
"What are you, crazy?"
he asks?.
Excerpt: A California legislator today proposed making
the state the first to legalize the recreational use of marijuana.
The legislation would allow people 21 and older
to grow, buy, sell and possess pot. It would be sold, regulated
and taxed similar to alcohol. The state would
collect $50 an ounce from sellers, and growers, too, would be taxed.
Estimates are that the cash-strapped state could
reap more than $1 billion a year.
"We could in fact have the political will to do
something, and certainly in the meantime this is a public policy call,"
Rep. Ammiano said. "I think the outcome would
be very healthy for California and California's economy."
The bill (AB 390) would ban use near schools
and prohibit growing cannabis in public view.
Also illegal, as now: DWS — driving while stoned.
A Republican colleague isn't inhaling, according

"I don't think we're particularly well served
in our society to further accommodate or even encourage something
that's going to be unproductive and damaging
to the individual, especially not for the reason of generating revenue,"
said Assemblyman Roger Niello of Fair Oaks.
But you're OK with hard liquor - which kills thousands
of people every year?
Roger Niello is a liar and a whore. He
can't stand the thought of someone being high.
I don't know what the number should be, but there
should be no tax on growing your own.
If you set up a farm and sell to your neighbors,
then I'm OK with a $50 tax.
Trust me, the poor and the purists will grow their
own and won't need any government assistance.
But some of us wouldn't mind paying $10 for a
pack of 20 perfectly rolled, consistently tasty joints.
But remember, the religiously insane talk to God
and God wants us to suffer - so no deal.

Bart, I moved from southern California to Minneapolis
precisely because of the cost of living. We went from a
lousy one-bedroom in a shitty, crime-ridden apartment
complex to our own house, and the rent is actually less.
I don't know what percentage of the population
here is composed of "intelligent happy liberals,"
but I've got my three friends and anyone can
find those in just about any town.
Only problem is, I still have a lot of roots in
a very expensive place, and definitely wouldn't mind going back. It's filled
with
too many bros and hos now though, all those 20-somethings
who are happy to overwork at low-paying jobs and over-pay
for crappy housing just to live in an "it" place.
Drives the costs up for everyone. Huntington Beach used to be a cool, sleepy
surf town, but it got invaded by permanent tourists
and will never be the same, either in character or cost.
I'm with you: living somewhere expensive just
because it seems cool is ridiculous for a person of moderate means.

Right now, Obama is reviewing
one of Bush's most dangerous midnight rules: if put into effect, it
will rip away life-saving federal protection for wolves in the Northern
Rockies.
Unless this deadly rule
is reversed, hundreds of wolves in Greater Yellowstone and central Idaho could be gunned down
by hunters and federal agents in the months to come.
The NRDC Action Fund is
ramping up a nationwide campaign aimed at persuading Obama to reject the Bush
"war on wolves" and to call off the guns.
Republicans can't wait to shoot wolf pups from a hovering chopper.
Cheney wouldn't - he only shoots caged animals,
but Sarah Palin types are super-eager to prove their manhood
by killing wolf pups and that makes me sick.
Does Obama need to be persuaded?
He's against "fun" killing - isn't he?

or availability of firearms ?
Just curious in Pennsylvania,
Dwick
That's not going to happen to me bacause I don't have any 11
year olds at Casa de Bart.
Complaining about the availability of firearms in America is like complaining
about gravity.
You can complain until you're blue-in-the-face, but what changes when
you're done? Nothing.
Liberals have a tendency to stare at the clouds and wonder how life
might be different.
I prefer to study the cold hard facts and then decide which is the
best way to deal with them.
As long as you and I are alive, there's going to be 200 million guns
in America. Is your mind capable of comprehending that last sentence?
If it is, then why bitch about the facts as they stare us in the face?
To answer your question, the idiot father made that gun available to
the 11 year old.
If he can't outwit an 11 year old, he has no business owning a gun.
And trying to pin this on me was really a weak and poorly-thought-out
move.

"We all know how large the defense budget is,"

Subject: beating women
Bart, some men still view “correcting their wives
behavior” as part of their duty, or privilege, as husbands.
Legally it was allowed for centuries. Laws
in France and Great Britain allowed men to physically punish their wives.
Those laws came to North America during the colonial
years. In the American colonies in the 1600s a man could
beat his wife with a rod no bigger around than
his thumb, hence the Rule of Thumb.
As to why women today still stay with these assholes,
mostly finances, at least that was the case for my mom
and aunt in the 1960s. Women have more
financial opportunities today and yet they will still stay with some asshole.
I don’t pretend to understand it. I see
