Excerpt: Democrats launched a drive at both ends of the
Capitol on Wednesday to strip the insurance industry
of its decades-old exemption from federal antitrust
laws, part of an increasingly bare-knuckled struggle
over landmark health care legislation sought
by President Barack Obama.
If enacted, the change would put an end to "price-fixing,
bid-rigging and market allocation in the health
and medical malpractice" insurance areas, said
Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Quitter. Leahy said he would
seek a vote on the plan when the Senate debates
health care legislation in the next few weeks.
Leahy made his comments at virtually the same
time the House Judiciary Committee voted 20-9
to end an industry exemption that dates to 1945.
Three Republicans supported the move.

"Sarah Palin rose from mayor of a small town
to governor of her state in less than a decade and against a well-connected political
machine, speaks volumes of her political wits. But those smarts are discounted because of her
looks and child bearing abilities."
-- Suzanne Terrell, Project GOPink, Link
Actually, Palin's inability to name a newspaper she's read helped
create her reputation for being super-stupid.
That, and she can't do interviews because "tricky journalists"
like Kreempuff Katie Couric trip her up.
Excerpt: First, let's take a look at the description of
this "notorious killer", Osama bin Laden, who we actually had
in custody years ago. We aren't sure exactly
how tall he is, or what language he speaks. We don't know
where he is but we know that he is left handed
and has a limp. He has no known scars? Wow, and yet we
know his approximate weight? Are they kidding?
My favorite part though, has to be the reward.
There is total of 27 million dollars on this

Excerpt: The source for much of the current epidemic of
paranoia is no doubt the 'Glenn Beck Show' on Fox News,
which follows the Hofstadter script with remarkable
faithfulness. One episode last month featured Mr. Beck
and a panel of guests speculating darkly about
indoctrination in the public schools, about the war on religion,
about the Federal Reserve, about the student
loan system, the United Nations, and the swine flu vaccine.
As a bonus, Mr. Beck rattled off a short history
of lobbying that was almost entirely incorrect--perhaps to
illustrate his favorite plaint about Americans
not learning history. And in the commercial break the real-life
conspirator G. Gordon Liddy advised viewers to
invest in gold.
What is most remarkable about the paranoid style,
though, is the earnest self-pitying that always seems to follow
each round of accusation. Case in point: a recent
essay by Michelle Malkin. After describing the murder of an
abortion doctor, a guard at the Holocaust Museum,
and a census bureau employee who was found with the word
'Fed' written on his corpse, she insisted that
'The
criminalization of conservative dissent is well underway.'
How so?
Because some of these acts caused media revulsion
against certain branches of the conservative movement;
surely the clampdown is not far behind...
Our ongoing problem is the crazies control the
Republican party.
I think murder is almost always a bad idea, but
Malkin disagrees.

Excerpt Popular disgust over the fat premiums that financial
executives bestow upon themselves is burgeoning, and rightly so.
Those Wall Street piggy banks are filling up
with billions upon billions of government-subsidized dollars.
But anyone infuriated by the grossly inflated
compensation of the masters of finance should check out the incredible
earnings
of the top executives in the health insurance
business. They’re among the most highly paid suits in the country - not
owing to
any skill in providing health care, which they
don’t do, but because they have succeeded in denying care, quashing competition,
driving up costs and winning federal subsidies
for their companies...
Why are these insurance executives paid such obscene
amounts?
They might explain that they have improved the
processing of claims and managing of risk - happy euphemisms for the
notorious corporate practices of denying care
wherever possible - or they might insist that their huge salaries reflect
their challenging roles in a highly competitive
marketplace.
But these companies actually exercise near monopolistic
control of local insurance markets,
which allows them to drive up costs and reduce
access.
Our health care system is so broke, this shouldn't
even be a debate.
Funny how the Democrats can lose arguments that
are already won before they start talking.
It's like the Dems are AGAINST crap in our drinking
water, and the GOP is FOR crap in our water
and the GOP is able to convince the average moron
to say he wants MORE crap in his water.
How can we lose the debate every time when logic
and common sense are always on our side?
"Well, in our state, we have a very strong
feeling that women aren’t capable of making reproductive decisions..."

It is obvious that you are a Clintonite
You despise any one that slighted the Clintons
in any way (they are dead to you now)
You only hate the right wing slightly more than
the Democrats.
But most of all you hate anyone or anything that
does not worship all things Clinton
You are talking goofy.
Since WWII, the GOP has had four
double winners with Ike, Nixon, Reagan and Der Monkey. All we've had in 64 years is Clinton
and I'm a bad man for supporting our sole winner?
Where is your common sense?
I think it's more likely that you are a Clinton
hater.
Why else would you refuse to give our sole winner
his due?
I have told the Dems no more money until they
learn to fight back but they are
the only thing I have in Washington to oppose
the fascist right
That's my argument for not starting a third party.
It's easier to slap some courage into these wimps
than start an entire new party.
In a perfect world the Dems would fight like we
did in the Marines (to win) but until that happens
I see nothing to gain by joining the right in
daily attacks on the Democrats in congress.
Regards and best wishes
Bill
I attack Obama and the Democrats for failing to fight back.
Maybe you should join me in trying to slap some courage into them.

Excerpt: As for reporters, are we enabling a bad animal
by appearing on Fox? It's a big audience, and while they're
liars, so what?
Anyone who thinks Fox has become fair and balanced
because Mara Liasson turned whore. Would the network be
better off without her partially-sane voice?
Would viewers?
I'm not a fan of slippery slope arguments, but
where does the boycott Fox approach end? Skipping the Simpsons or
the NFL
because they're broadcast on the Fox network
because they're News Corp owned would seem extreme. I know no one is
making this argument, but the logic of a boycott
ought to extend to an entire conglomerate. If appearing on Fox News is
a
morally dubious act, why support any part of
the company?"
You can watch the NFL and the Simpsons - just don't buy anything advertised
on those shows.
For the life of me I can't figure out why the
NFL didn't just tell Rush that hosting a national radio talk show
with political overtones was a conflict of interest
with being an NFL team owner. Therefore, if he was really
serious about being an owner, he would have to
give up his talk show. He'd never do that, it would be his choice,
and that would be the end of the story.
Lisa
PS, your stuff in the last issue about how the
American Handjob Association just admitted
that all the hate crimes are committed by religous

Thanks, and good one about the vulgar Pigboy.
Who knows, maybe he's tired of being hated by all women and

He might've traded the radio show for football.
A warning to my Republican friends.
There are a lot more people in America who want
to see Obama succeed than want to see him fail.
You might want to take that into account if you

I’m the biggest liberal reading your website (well,
maybe #2).
I don’t want prostitution legalized in California.
Sorry boys, but if you want sex, use your wife,
your friend, your hand, or whatever. Or, go to Nevada.
Sorry, I would just not want to promote the exploitation
of women anymore than I have to, just to satisfy
men’s “needs.” (and I am not even a religious
whack-job) – I’d rather she go to college than be a madam or prostitute.
Tax something that is beneficial, like medical
marijuana. They are doing just that here in Oakland.
Tax things that benefit society. . . . and don’t
give me that crap that a legal brothel will keep down rape crimes. That
is BS.
You are correct though, that there will always
be prostitution, legal or not, so you have a point there
. . . but not enough for this liberal.
Bart, you must be a guy.

PS. Best line I have ever read on Bartcop: (LMAO)
“If men could get pregnant, abortion would
be a sacrament.”
Perhaps you're talking about the way things ought to be?
I'm talking about the cold, hard facts that are staring us in the face.
I think you're not looking at the big picture. Sex IS and always WILL
BE sold in California.
No power on Earth can stop that - not even the death penalty.
So who should be in charge? Doctors and government overseers working
with self-employed entrepreneurs
or evil, sadistic thugs with strung-out slaves who have to "earn" even
if they're dying of AIDS?
Between those two groups, who do you think will treat the women better?
Between those two groups, who do you think will let the women keep
more of what they earn?
That's why I said it's similar to drugs.
Between Columbian thugs with machine guns and your friendly, local
Walgreens pharmacist,
who would you rather dispense drugs to our nation's youth?
Excerpt: Many top Republicans are growing worried that
the party’s chances for reversing its electoral routs of 2006 and 2008
are being wounded by the flamboyant rhetoric
and angry tone of radical whore personalities, according to interviews.
Congressional leaders talk in private of being
boxed in by commentators such as Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh
— figures who are wildly popular with the conservative
base but wildly controversial among the electorate, and who
have proven records of making life miserable
for senators and House members critical of their views or influence.
As vividly illustrated by Rep. Joe Wilson, elected
Republicans are seeing the benefits — national media attention
and fundraising — from embracing the trash-talking
style of talk show slugs like Beck and the Pigboy.
The GOP has been taken over by the braindead Palins and Becks and Bachmanns.
The radical base might like it, but the voters don't like it at all.
In 2012, the GOP might get what the Pigboy got from the NFL: No Thanks,

Soon the cost of his family health coverage was

I have no idea what you tried to say so I'm forced to guess:
Are you saying poor people aren't charged when they get caught stealing
food?
Are you saying American justice treats poor people the same as rich
people?
Are you saying the men who stole billions from Wall Street and the
banks
and the housing industry were identified, indicted, caught and punished?
I never claimed to be an expert on the Fed but I'm smart enough to know
that when
hundreds of billions of dollars suddenly go missing, that money didn't
"evaporate."
Some greedy, above-the-law Republicans stole that money.
Excerpt: Managers from both sides spent the days leading
up to the American League Championship Series explaining why
expanded instant replay would not be in the best
interest of the game. But then, a 20-minute stretch of action in the
middle innings Tuesday provided the reason the
notion has gained momentum.
Umpires appeared to miss three calls in the fourth
and fifth innings of Game 4 between the Angels and Yankees,
one of which cost the Yankees another run. They
admitted to two of the errors.
One batter later, Johnny Damon hit a fly ball
to center field, and Swisher retreated to third base to tag up.
Swisher slid in safely to home and the Yankees,
for one moment, took a 4-0 lead.
But Hunter motioned and yelled to appeal. Morales
threw to Chone Figgins at third, and umpire Tim McClelland
ruled Swisher had left early. The run was taken
off the board, and the Angels were out of the inning.
The television replay showed Swisher hadn't left
early.
"In my heart, I thought he left too soon,"
McClelland
said. "But the replay showed that he didn't."
Reminds me of Saint Reagan.
"In my heart, I didn't think we gave missles to terrosists, but
the facts say we did."
But what happened the next inning had the normally
staid fans at Angel Stadium chanting an obscenity.
How can they get it wrong again and again?
Baseball umpires are professional observers. When
that fly ball is in the air, the third base umpire
has nothing else to do but watch the runner's
foot on the bag. Once the ball is caught,
the foot leaves the bag and the player starts
running - how is it possible to screw that up?

Excerpt: The Obama White House has deliberately placed
favored Washington institutions of the Bush years in its crosshairs,
a sign of an escalating battle between the Democratic
administration and some of the city's pre-eminent power players.
He's saying this is politics?
Who knew?
In recent days, the administration has attacked
